New change that needs some excessive testing from you guys, please:

mjr fixed a looooooooooooong standing DCS bug, and now it seems like

a) highest volumes are finally working without noise

b) in general there is no crackling/buzzing anymore with DCS

c) and we also removed the DCS low pass filter again (introduced in 2.8)

So in general, DCS (which was used on all Williams/Bally machines since Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure) should be better quality in general now, compared to the build found in the first post/message above. Build can be found here:

https://github.com/v...3.6-369-102e419

If you find some games that feature noise again now, please let us know (here or via github issues)

Which part? The DCS fix? It wasn't THAT disturbing actually.  :)

Pinsound Studio 18.8.3 (32 bit)
VPX 10.7.3.395
VPM 3.6.369

Pinsound actually kind of works with 64 bit vpinmame. Launch a table in 64bit and the pinsound 'listener' kicks in and appears to play sounds ok...   but, if altsound is set to 2 for a rom and pinsound isn't already running on table load vpx will hang at 'starting game scripts'.

vpinmame setup64.exe -> Test -> Start also hangs if a rom is selected with altsound set to 2 and pinsound studio is not running.

It's a bit weird because i was expecting the communication between 64 bit VPM and pinsound to just fail and VPM rom sounds to be used instead all the time (like 32 bit does still if altsound is set to 2 but pinsound isn't running)

Not sure if it's fixable, but would be great if it could be.

Not really a bug or problem but I want to mention a thing about Data East Playboy 35th Anniversary. The bonus count sequence is putting the info on screen too slow. If you get high bonus multipliers you can see it's not in sync with the sounds resulting in a long silence until all the info has been displayed. Also at the game over screen it's showing the text too slow. The music and text should be in sync because the text are lyrics to the music. Nothing gamebreaking just not in sync

Which VPM version did you use for this test?

I have also tested all the vpinmame versions availabe here (from version 26 to the latest one), and they all work the same. The strange thing is that only the bonus count is affected as during the game the rom works fine.

I was using the latest 64 bit version, but I have seen it on video's on Youtube as well, it's all the same as I have it on my machine. And indeed just as JP says it's only the bonus and the game over screen wich seem a bit off. If it helps here is a video where you can see big bonus and the full game over sequence and how it's syncing sounds and the display

New beta build for testing, please especially test the new 2151 sound core (i.e. all Bally/Williams Sys11C/WPC89 (up to Twilight Zone), all Data Easts Gen1 (Laser War to TMNT) and all Gottlieb Sys80B/GTS3 (starting with Rock up to the end)):

Core:

Fixed Zaccaria strsphnx sound, background music works correctly now
Found a cleaner way to prevent garbled speech on Zaccaria

Use YMFM's YM2151 core for a more accurate emulation (GTS3, Older Bally/Williams WPCs, Older Data Easts)

Fixed regression in DCS Audio decoding
Also fixed one subtle DCS emulation bug that leads to slight buzzing/crackling on some samples though (mainly audible when using good speakers or headphones or if the internal volume is cranked up very high), one of the longest standing bugs in the history of PinMAME!
Due to the above, remove DCS low pass filtering (introduced in 2.8) again and prefer 1:1 DCS output quality

ROMs:

Shadow: Fix checksum of LH-6 with wrong text index patch

New clones:
Shadow, The LF-4 (French)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles A 0.7 VUK (Prototype)
Zankor (TMS5220 Italian Speech)

Builds, as usual, are found in the first post..

Tested in twilight zone (Bally/Williams)

Audio seemed good, Rod's voice samples are simply a fault of of down sampling them to fit in the ROM
not vpinmame's fault those are crunchy.

Have to see what others i have in the list
Hell i dont remember what one table is to the next

Gottlieb Sys 80
Gruss Gott!!!!

Well, Black Hole

It is FIXED!
Not only is it fixed, there are sounds that it did not play before
1) Votrax no longer breaks or falls apart between games
2) The blended sounds that use Votrax phonemes blended with digital generated effect, well they work now, you can hear them clearly.
You can hear stuff (im using headphones at the moment) that were totally absent before.

Any suggestions on zaccaria or dcs sound, not sure what i have
I know i have something with DCS, just dont remember what cause i hardly look at the DMD

Thanks for testing!!

..and weird that Votrax now works better than before. There is really still something glitchy with the implementation.  :/

I am not sure if i have any Zaccaria tables.
Cavalier Negro is south american i think?
ltd or taito or something.
I will look though.

On Votrax
Cavalier Negro uses Votrax, it is just that there were never any appropriate phonemes for non english speech
It emulates fine, the wonky speech is simply the fault of a Votrax trying to speak in Spanish or Portuguese.

Black Hole was the only one i ran across that was fubar.
But i would not call it glitchy any longer, i ran it through about 8 games, and it worked better now than ever previously.
Even the blended sounds work, and they never worked right before.
Even the garbled static is gone.

Not sure what other tables use actual Votrax.
I think firepower uses samples?

I have bugs bunny, i will test that one
Anyone suggest a zaccaria table with speech?

The glitchy part refers to the fact that although we did not touch that code recently, it now seems to work for you.

So there must still be something like uninitialized memory or the like somewhere that makes it work with some builds (or setups), but not with others.  :/
