Fwiler..

I have setup Steam to launch the games in the following way...

lr7drJq.jpg

- Add the game to your Steam library (On the Steam top toolbar go to Games/Add a non-Steam game to my library.  Search for or browse to your VPVR.exe)

- Add the following line to the 'Set Launch Options'....  Example is for No Good Gophers..  You have to change this for each table entry (to match the table name)...

-minimized /exit /play "C:\Visual Pinball\Tables\VR ROOM No Good Gofers (Williams 1997) V10.vpx"

They launch successfully from the Steam menu this way, and the escape key pulls you out of VP.  I haven't actually tried loading them through a Virtual desktop in VR this way, but Im guessing it would work the same.

Agreed that we do need some sort of an official frontend.   Maybe somebody smart could modify PinballY frontend to work with VR.

Has anyone figured out how phone users can move around in the room?

Based on the limited info in this question, I believe Spektre must be using an application like VRidge (riftcat.com) to convert his cell phone into a VR PC headset...

If so, that only gives you a 3DOF experience as far as I know.

I would think VRidge devs could somewhat easily implement a way to navigate positionally with some keys or a gamepad but dont know if that is a feature or not as I myself never tried VRidge. That would probably make some people feel sick super fast though!

My suggestion is that if you can afford to get one, get a 6DOF headset if you want to play VPX VR as the experience will be so much better.

The only other suggestions are to make sure you try the recenter room and recenter table hotkeys in VPX VR and to get the table situated in front of you and to see if VRidge or whatever other app you are using will allow you to control the positional tracking with a key or gamepad.

I have a general question about these started VR-room-releases.

They use their own inactive backglass - mostly an illuminated image without functionality.

DMD only works fine with vpx supported DMDs.

The old tables with reels or number-displays must grab scoring with cpu intensive external DMD-grabbing.

But for many of the tables there exist already FSS-versions with fully functional backglass inside the VPX.

Why does nobody use them in the new VR-rooms?

Do I miss something technical - or are they not allowed to use them?

arconovum's FSS tables do already exist but they are not truly publicly available. They are available by invite only. Have you tried asking him?

I play his tables. That's because I know them. Most of them are public at vpinball some only on his google-drive.

But i do not create vr-rooms.

The creators should ask him, because than we'll have the best table, the best backglass in the best vr-room = best vr-experience! ;)

Yes I've played funhouse. Perhaps this is the future of vr-gaming.

Arconovum already gave permission to implement his display. Just be patient, room creators need a bit time to put it into all existing rooms.

There are keys for moving up/down already added to VPVR.  Someone needs to recompile it with forward/backward/left/right keys added.   I looked through the source code yesterday, but we need someone smarter than I.  :)

This is all us Cardboard VR guys are looking for basically. Maybe go forward in the direction we are looking would be a plus, via some assigned keys.

@Rawd: Does this save resources compared to a table launch from the editor?

No, it wouldn't.  It's still running all the same software.  It's just a quicker and more organized way to launch a table.

Ok, maybe there is a way to skip the editor start? We have to ask Rawnei and Caligula.

If there was, this could save some ressources I guess.

Guys,

I’ve read just about the entire thread at this point. Still, I have a couple of newb questions:

* Caligula’s “Getting Started” file says to install the latest version of VPVR. Do I want VPVR64, or VPVR? I think I read “use the 32 bit one.” What’s the difference? I thought 64 bit version can use more ram (?)

* Vpuniverse is currently down. If I’m not using colored DMDs, do I need to install vpinmame 3.2, or will vpinmame 3.0 work?

 Thanks!

I think Trinus offers 15 minute timed trial.   Better than 5 minutes I guess.

You dont need a 1000$ Headset for pinball, i bought a cheap Lenovo Explorer, with its "Halo" made for quick getting out of VR its so damn good for the 100 - 150 Bucks you get it ..  better than a cardboard .. not as good as the Index or Reverb (my prefered headset) but the price and the resolution is top .. and Good quality Tables look good, the bad ones .. bad .. Tried this with other games and where amazed how good this cheap thing is ... 90 frames / 1400 x 1400 / Pull up supersampling and you have a nice headset .. with inside out tracking and 2 Controllers ...

I prefer 64bit because as you said it can use more ram since it's 64bit, other than that technically there is no difference..

Think of VPVR as VPX, you want the same underlying things like SAMBuild etc.. it's just another code branch and executable with different graphics pipeline.

but not to play it. I care too much about my sight (or 2/3 min no more).

I'm still young ,I have good eyesight, I want to keep it

i don't want to have a grandpa view.

I'm less afraid of it : :D

I keep seeing you making statements that VR damages your eyes, if you are going to make claims about this you should back it up with some scientific data not just go around spreading rumor, also it's not a fitting discussion for development threads, make your own thread if you want to discuss the impact on eyesight from VR please.
