I have a question.
Can a clone named game through the VPMAlias method use the altsound method?
Meaning can I have an altsound file named after the VPMAlias name, or will it only work with the parent rom name in the altsound folder?
Say I name the NFL rom Seahawks in VPMAlias. And another named Dolphins.
Will this work, or am I stuck with one altsound name, that being "nfl"?

If I am stuck with just the one "nfl" altsound file, I have another idea.
How hard would it be to add the 32 team names as roms to PinMAME
Where they would each have their own rom name, and I could make a seperate altsound for each team.
Would it be as simple as renaming the nfl rom to "seahawks", and the rest of the team names so it would be 32 roms, and then waiting for you devs to add it as a clone name to VPinMAME?
And would these new roms have their own nvram?

Well I just tried the great Cheech and Chong table, and it does generate it own nvram, and has its own name in the altsound folder.
So what I am asking now, if it is not too hard to do, can you please add 32 new rom names to PinMAME with the names of each NFL team?
Unofficial clones of NFL rom?
This will allow for me to personalize the sounds for each team. And may fix problems people are having with the multiple NFL pup packs.

As far as I can tell, VPMAlias name does not work with altsound.
I cannot name an altsound folder the VPMAlias name and have it work. I think it has to be named nfl for it to work.
I may have another way around this, but I will have to script the sounds into the table, which I was trying to avoid, and was the reason why I was going the altsound route.
Perhaps I can just do the main music in the one altsound name, and the personalized music and sounds could be scripted into each table. So all 32 teams use the same and only one, nfl altsound folder. Or I may just skip using the altsound method, and script all music and sounds into tables like the old versions.

..actually i just checked the code and then also tested it in practice: it already works..
so just add something like
mm_109_GoT,mm_109c
to VPMAlias.txt
then i made sure that mm_109c had altsound mode set to 1 in the options
and after that the mm_109_GoT altsound folder just worked

I always used DoubleSize option with vpinmame to keep all kind of DMD display aspect ratio on my 1080p monitor.
With my new setup I'm using a 4K UHD Monitor and DoubleSize is too Small
It will be cool to have a new QuadrupleSize option.
What did you think about adding this feature?

Use freezys and your resolution wont matter, just size one as needed and save as global.
Only ROM i can not use freezy's for is Strikes N spares as it is a double DMD

I've tested Freezy dmdext 1.9 as a main DMD with performance lost and ball stutters
My computer is brand new Intel 12th generation CPU with RTX 3090 video card with Windows 11 and after testing a lots of configurations, I ended up with the VpinMAME standard without colors, I'm using Freezy only to replace UltraDMD with success.
My monitor setup is two 4K UHD monitors locked at 120 hz. One for Table with DMD and the other for Backglass.
All my setup is fine tuned and if I change my refresh rate to 144 hz or use Freezy as main DMD, I begin to have ball stutters and some table are unplayable, the flippers freeze at some positions
I don't know why Freezy use more resources than vPinMAME so on my new setup it is the best configuration for the moment ![]()
All the Taito and LTD do Brasil DMD are not standard and are not shown properly with Freezy
I don't have this issues with vPinMAME
If you compare Freezy and vPinMAME, do you have same performance with the gameplay?
Is Freezy dmdext 1.9 the lastest version?

Sadly, you have some kind of issue going on
I can run freezys on my crummy laptop, and it does not make the performance any worse than what the laptop already has.
Doesnt bother my desktop at all.
You dont need to run the backglass at 120hz, but i dont think that makes any kind of difference at all
neither b2s server nor freezys make any attempt to lock to refresh.
Taito and LTD tables are not really DMD tables, they are not honestly meant to be displayed in vpinmame or freezy's
because those tables had multi digit segmented LED displays, arranged in a certain order in the backglass.
Freezy's should display those the same exact way that vpinmame does, as they are not the long 15 digit arrays
but for something like that, enabling alpha numerics probably looks a lot better, i just use the backglass display on those tables
i only bother with a DMD display if the machine actually has a DMD display.
I mean there are ways to have any alphanumeric display table output an actual DMD
Scutters did a write up on it, it still entails using freezy's though.
Freezy's should not run like that on your PC though, something is not right, that PC should not bat an eye at a little 128x32 pixel display going on.
I dont think changing the monitor to 144Hz should even cause issues other than maybe a bit of shearing, if the FPS cannot maintain 144fps or higher at all times
1.9 is the latest version of freezy's
Does everything go to hell when you run a non ROM table that has a DMD via FlexDMD and Freezy's ?

The ball stutters issues with Freezy's DMDext and my new setup is solved by disabling Ambient occlusion in video settings of visual pinball.
All my tables plays smoothly with two 4k UHD at 144 hz monitors and Freezy's color DMD ![]()
Anyway Ambient occlusion effect don't make a big difference in visual and add some artifacts around ball and flippers so disabling it make a hug improvement in the performance of the ball motions and gameplay.

The double size setting has now been replaced by a more general scaling factor (so 2,3,4,5,.. is possible now).

Tested all the standards DMD and specials DMD like Baby Pac-Man and Caveman with success.
Now! We can oversize the DMD display easily with only one registry key value keeping all the customs displays usable without loosing performance.

Thats a good idea to make doublesize the default and keep the doublesize option to quadruple the actual size.
I know someones can use real dmd 128 x 32 resolution

vpmDMD can be any size you want it to
It can even be non 4:1 aperture if you want
Right click it, choose to show borders
now resize it to anything you want
now slide it to the spot you want it to sit on the screen and right click it again and uncheck show borders

ambient occlusion doesnt affect it, it isnt using it
Hell, my desktop has all vpx settings maxed and all goodies checked
and i use freezy's for all DMD tables, and 0 ball stutters and fps never drops
