I thought for a long time ago that "when I retire I'll build a cab!". Now I'm retired, since April, and I still haven't started. I'm just having too much fun building tables and taking small trips here and there :) I guess sometime in the future I'll build one :) But I really love playing sitting in front of my computer, I actually don't see myself playing in front of a cab (too much pain in the knees, I guess I practiced too much karate, hahaha)

Ah, but you must think Outside the box.

Who says a cab must be someone one must stand at?

Who says it even requires wood?

Mess not included

https://i.imgur.com/cj8ZtoC.jpg

When is a cab not a cab?
When i say so

https://i.imgur.com/o0SkgGl.jpg

Now if one was so inclined, one could make a wooden box, containing a KL25Z, flipper buttons and an analog plunger
and i would suggest weighting the box so it does not just slap around, though i just use an xbox type controller, have 4 flipper buttons, coin, start, launch, fire, analog plunger and analog nudge

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

Spend it on Hookers and Blow

I already have a controller :) A gift from my friends Leo & Jolo from Argentina :)

And I can rotate my monitor too :) And I can use my portable as a second monitor, but I couldn't call that a cab :)

PS: that picture is 12 years old :) When I still used CD/DVD  :) And a 4:3 screen :D

Jolo makes them himself :) He has a webpage PLAYCADE (blogia.com) but I guess he only delivers to Argentina :) I have been using it for 12 years and it still works just like the first day :) (mmm that was advertisement :) ) Very solid, and I can bump it and the table nudges :) and it has buttons on it sides :)

There’s just a certain feeling about playing a cab whether real pinball or virtual pinball. I totally understand about your bad knees. I need to wear these all day to stand/walk. But I can still stand all day playing a real cab.

BTW jp, you make some awesome tables.

Merry Christmas.

Yes, I too mean there is a great difference in playing a real table vs playing on my desktop. I haven't played a real pinball in years, last time it was when Thalamus was visiting Oslo in 2019, and that day I couldn't even nudge due to the pain in the knees. Some days are better than others :) I guess one day it will be time to exchange those knees. My wife did it on the right knee and she even has a pace maker, so and I call her now Robocop, hahaha. Anyway, I have great fun making and playing these tables :)

I already have a controller :) A gift from my friends Leo & Jolo from Argentina :)

Yes but your friends wont sell me one, unless i go to argentina to pick it up :(

And I can rotate my monitor too  :) And I can use my portable as a second monitor, but I couldn't call that a cab  :)

You can call it whatever you bloody well please

Not even every real pinball machine was a 4 leg standup affair with a backbox

There were sitdown cocktail table type machines, vertical machines etc

I want to find an old desk (cause i wont cut mine)
Old as in old, not ikea old, old when desks were big and real wood
Then cut the center of the desk, and inlay a piece of tinted plate glass, and put a rotated 32" screen under the desk, in a shallow enclosure.

Mount the flipper buttons and an analog plunger in the remains of the center drawer.

The normal desktop monitor would be the backglass, with a small 14" LCD under it for the DMD

It would be like if Dillinger from TRON had a vpin desk

 When I still used CD/DVD

Uh, at the disk of sounding dumb, what do you put CD's DVD's and BLuRay disc's in now then?

hahaha, I haven't use CD's or DVD's in at least 10 years :)

So I can say I have a cab too :) I can rotate my monitor and I have a nice controller that feels like a cab, with side buttons and nudging it too :) But I don't use backglasses :)

Please get a VR headset.  You deserve to walk around your tables and see your creations in full 3D.   Then you can just build a simple controller and sit :)

My son has a VR set, so I have checked that once :) But since I spend more time building tables than playing them, so I haven't bought a VR set yet.

I thought for a long time ago that "when I retire I'll build a cab!". Now I'm retired, since April, and I still haven't started. So a few things, F13 is really super cool on my cabinet compared to the Desktop experience, my eyes can pick up a lot of fine playfield detail in the cabinet via my 42 inch 4K plus DOF is in play with a nice audio system in my case. So if/when you play on a desktop are you using a dedicated 2nd monitor for the DMD and backglass? Yeh, sitting at the PC is way more comfortable so I'll kick in $20 towards the purchase of a nice ergonomic arcade chair for you when you take the plunge to make your cabinet. In my case building my cab started simple by quartering a 4'x8' sheet of plywood into 4 segments measuring 2'x4' each (Left, Right, Bottom; then the Front and Back of the cab were cut from the remaining 2'x4' sheet. I wanted the entire carcass to be cut from the single sheet. I built the cabinet custom around the TV I had rather than going with standard Stern or Williams dimensions. But selfishly I'd rather not lose you to the black hole of a cabinet build when I know new tables are coming from you on the horizon.

All your games are fantastic and I'm thrilled you have more time now just having fun making new tables. Your archive is so prolific, I'm actually hoping to retire some day so I have time to just play all the tables you have amassed over the years in contributing to the hobby and all the complete rebuilds you did in VPX. Friday the 13th has my full attention at the moment. So again thanks, we are fortunate to have you.
