Yes, exactly. Somehow this point needs to be made more clear, otherwise the first impression is simply: What the heck is going on here? :/

Hmmm.. I need to think about this some more.

well, to be totally honest, when i 1st got vpx, i clicked HELP

but i only got the About part.

If we could have a Help file

Not a HOW THE F&^%! DO I MAKE A TABLE kind of help file

that is far beyond the scope an an application help

But a help file that covers just the VPX app and the UI

Something like this could be covered in a section about launching from the command line
and launching tables from a folder, or something like that.

No scripting help and that kind of thing, but something that just covers how to use the program itself.

Granted, some people will not look to or read the help file, but some people wont read a wiki or various other things either
and there is just not much you can do about that.
But at least the info would be right there, in the program, should they choose to look at it

And you could probably get a lot of us to volunteer to write different sections

Like you guys come up with an outline and then we could submit different articles for the different sections

Then you just need to review them and then put the info into the help file format in the places you want them.

Is an idea anyways

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

which GUI issue?

Absolutely. But i fear neither Fuzzel or me currently have time for that, given that we barely keep up with finalizing 10.7.  :/

So this would need to be driven completely by somebody else i fear.

rev4439 is up:

- disable progress bar when loaded with -minimized
- cleanup obj loader handling
- tweak Standard FXAA and Quality FXAA filters to be a bit sharper
- actually handle erasing invalid image loads correctly for >1 successive ones
- gate bounceback tweaks
- optimize bloom filter
- overall shader cleanups

I dont think you can "Keep Up" with finalizing 10.7
It will be finalized, when it feels right

Well, let's see who all in interesting in contributing to a documentation project.
Only on the use of VPX itself, not How to Create Tables or write VBS etc.

I have HTML Help workshop 1.3, and could get anyone a copy, though it is not exactly needed, it is only for assembling the end result
the CHM file.

Maybe need a new thread started to see interest in a VPX documentation project?

Small 10.7 Loading from frontend GUI thing that i know will come up because 10.6 didn't do it.   10.7 when running -play xxx -minimized shows the 'progess loading bar' now (people see it popup on frontend)....10.6 didn't show the progress bar in this mode.

Fixed..

Howdy, I was testing the latest 10.7 version yesterday and I have this effect when loading tables with pinup popper: https://1drv.ms/v/s!...DqS1c5wSBdgTYlw

Tested wuth exclusive fullscreen on and off (same result). Maybe it is because that progress bar of loading table being shown...

Maybe really related? Please check again then with the next 10.7 beta.

@Toxie, I have checked the newest beta and the problem is still there unfortunatelly.

It seams that 10.7 is using 100% of my CPU for 2-3 seconds when loading table and that gives no processing power to pinup popper showing loading video and playfield/bg videos :(

That wasn't the case using vpx 10.6 :( it was loading 2x longer but was not that cpu hungry....
Can there be a switch added for lower CPU users that will let 10.7 to use old 10.6 method for loading maybe ?

Seems more of a popper thing perhaps more than a low end CPU thing?

My laptop qualifies as low end as far as VPX goes, but does not exhibit this in pinballX
neither the graphics corruption, nor the 100% CPU use on loading, CPU peaked at 40%

I used JP's diablo because it has the added load of using dmd extensions and flexDMD

Also tested with ACDC Luci to test a VPM table, pretty much same results.

What does it look like when you launch a table without popper?

Loadwise etc

What does it look like when you launch a table without popper?

Loadwise etc

Recorded two situations. Loading World Cup with 10.7 outside popper (notice the 4th second of the video when there is a 100% cpu use spike at all cores):

https://1drv.ms/v/s!...Fzx6eX_Xh-AuM6g

and the same table using 10.6 maxing out only the 3rd core:

Ok that is just weird

That is not low end, i think your 10.6 CPU load is too high even.

I've only got an old generation i5 mobile here, and not seeing those loads

wonder what is causing it to pull so high

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

I will, although that thread is about slow loading times... and on my side the loading time is significantly shorter on 10.7

rev4439 is up:

- optimize bloom filter

Could you guys please test the bloom again after this? I made some rather radical changes there, leading to different behavior on all tables that overdid the bloom effect (creating these insane 'white blobs' all over the place on bright bulbs and flashers). Now these should be less drastic and more 'smooth' looking. Also that flickering of extremely bright highlights on the ball(s) should be improved.

Note that all tables that did use the bloom 'in a sane manner' should look roughly the same, maybe a bit better/smoother.

Good idea! I could just add a command line option that Pinup Popper could use then? (e.g. limiting the number of threads to a factor of (0..1])

@NailBuster: Would that make sense?

Toxie, wanted to report that I went to Task Manager and in details tab right clicked the vpinball 10.7 exe and set priority to Normal - don't know why it was set to High. The problem with the graphic distorsion while in popper is gone.

but didn't help on the cpu cores spike consumption.

The CPU spikes are fine as we do some of the loading now in a highly parallel fashion.

So if Popper is reacting good then for you, i think we're fine, right?!

If not too much effort, I think it would be great to have a command line parameter like -lowcpu that limits the new 10.7 maxing all cpus during loading.... I know many people have some really nice multi-screen loading media and would prefer a few extra seconds loading time like 10.6.

Hehe, neat. A new luxury problem: We load too fast now.   ;)

If you pick it up, i'll add it, no problem.
