Been trying to get Virtuapin to build a PinSim cab for two years. No luck with that one. Maybe that will change as the user base with VR headsets increases along with content for VPXVR

Is Bigscreen still part of the procedure?

Yes, Run bigscreen and then run VPX, pick Stereo SBS, then choose SBS under screen config in bigscreen.  You can move the screen around and change its size to match a pinball table.  Works great.

You should also try out pinballfx2 in VR, it works really well.

No.

All you need is VPX, VPVR (just copy and paste it into the VPX mainfolder), Steam VR, tables and roms.

Anyone else playing with the Trinus VR app? I can get the steamvr room to look great, but when I go to the VPX table I see weird artifacts...

Here is something that I'm almost complete...  A new VR ROOM for nFozzy's awesome Space Station.

I have not modified nFozzy's table in any way, and it plays just how he left it.   I did have to add some code at the end of the script (just for VR stuff), I moved his awesome segmented display, and I made some things around the cabinet edging look better for VR.

It's pretty cool that he coded the segmented display..  as I was able to move it to the backglass, so we don't need to run any DMD capture software for this table..

On his table release, he has...  Permission to MOD?: Unspecified  (not yes or no)

I have sent him a message asking for permission to release his table in my new room.  He hasn't been active in the forums for over a year.  Hopefully he see's my message.

What are your guys thoughts on this?  Is this even considered a 'mod'?  It's more of a 'port' in my opinion, but I'm curious what the community thinks.

Community thinks: Looks awesome!!! Give it to us please.

Not sure if the points popping out are a deflection though.

Give nFozzy 2 weeks in total to respond. If there is no response by then, I'd consider it as silent approved.

The floating scores are easy to turn off at the top of the script.   I was unsure if I'd like them at first, but they look awesom in VR, and I love them!

2 weeks?  You meant 2 days?  :)

The table, minus the small edit in the script, is essentially unmodified.  I can appreciate some would feel this is still a mod but this is the same table, dropped into a VR room setting. I would think as long as proper credit to nfozzy is provided that this is ok to release. I hope nfozzy is able to respond, but understanding he's not been around for a while (over a year), I just hope he's ok!!!

Still this is a great question to debate. Outside of a clear cut "not allowed to mod under any circumstance", when it comes to releasing a VR room type of setting for a table, is there some allowance when there is ambuiguity surrounding the permission to mod = unspecified?  At worse, would there be more allowance if the VR Room version was released as a DIFF patch of some sort so that people have to do the table themselves via patching it from the original unmodified download?

I am able to navigate in the 3d room and see the table, but my keyboard isn't sending commands to the table for plunger/coins/start/flipper.

I'm using Riftcat with keyboard/mouse emulating the controller for moving around in VR.

Can you use the trigger controllers to work the flippers?

Is there a faq I should have found?

Thanks.

I’m not familiar with riftcat but I imagine that is causing a focus issue potentially

Looks absolutely incredible, and I can’t wait to play it.  All these amazing releases are going to push me to finish my PinSim.  And thanks for giving us some non-DMD games and spending so much time tweaking them and the environment.  The little things like the working plunger really add to the experience.

Looks great, love the concept. It's exactly what I would have done but now don't have too;) I have high quality ramp and habitrail primitives for the table if you want them too. I'll send you the file.

@The Loafer: glad you like the TOTAN VR experience! I only have a Vive (not the pro), but for my setup I set steam VR at SS 2 and in VPX SS at 1. This sort of eliminated the shimmering on the coins for me while still having good performance (my 1080Ti is maybe overpowered compared to the Vive though)

I remember trying that but the table looked pretty poor....

I noticed somewhere in this thread, the thought of a first-person front-end would be a great addition for this project. Someone had also mentioned 3DArcade a while back (my favorite front end of all time). Peter (the author of 3DArcade) is currently resurrecting and re-building from scratch, 3DArcade in Unity. He released two previews and is importing the arcades, models (huge library of game-specific 3D models), textures and art from the previous version and getting it all to work in Unity as he had it previously in Shockwave/Director. This version also promises to be much simpler to implement and use. I know 3rdAxis is doing a lot of 3D work and there are gamerooms being constructed. Peter has also instituted MAME within Unty to execute and play on the actual 3D model itself instead of exiting out of the 3DA front end and launching MAME. Pretty cool. Anyways, not sure if he has VR on his radar, but I will be pinging him about it. I think between 3DArcade in Unity and this project, there could be a very cool first-person Arcade/Pinball VR all-in-one. If any are interested in the progress of the project, or even to help out with testing, etc., I'm sure the guys over there would love feedback and such. Here is a link to the new 3DArcade in Unity project

Would be awesome if there would be the next step soon. VPX VR is awesome, but VP has a lot of room for improvement, especially for us VR guys. Some people started 3D pinball projects in the past (Unity and Unreal 4 engine). Those projects were promising but died somehow. Not sure if toxie und fuzzel have the capacity to develop a new engine from scratch. Maybe we VR guys should stick our heads together and create a VP version that is no port (which is still awesome!) rather a optimized version for VR.

I have some basic Java skills but could learn C++ I think. What do you guys think? I could help out here and there, but we need some C++, game engine and lighting pros to do this.

I think since 2003 or so there has been talk about 3 or 4 different pinball sims and they ultimately fail (or stagnate) because they all have something in common: not open sourced so once the programmer moves on to something else, thats all she wrote

I trust that the eventual vp11 or vp12 will be the full 3D engine that everyone craves. If you start from scratch you could eventually get there, but it will take years to mature because like vp devs, no one Would be working full time on this (nor should be expected to)

Thats not me saying Im against it, any project is as strong as the foundation so if the foundation (devs/table authors/community) is strong than it could work. But as it is vpx has matured so much, obviously has the table authors behind it, has great devs behind it and has a great community

Ie although the future could be elsewhere, vpx is on the right path right now so we have that at the very least and the future looks good

Wow!  I spent many a year with 3Darcade!   This is some pretty cool news.

I was considering writing a frontend for VPVR in Unity, but It would be a huge project and I don't think I have all the skills required.

Steely was mentioning that years ago, he made a VP table that loaded other VP tables from within.   Maybe that would be the route to go for a frontend?

You want a cheapy front end?

- associate the .vpx with the vpvr exe
- save a folder link of the tables folder to your desktop
- load up steam VR
- select desktop
- open vp tables folder
- double click icon

- if you want a fancy front end then just use pinball x or y in desktop mode, add the vpvr exe to the front end, add the table to a custom xml list and again use desktop in steam vr and voila A nice 2D graphical front end. Yeah its not in VR but it looks nice

How do I position the table correctly? I don't have movement controls, only head tracking. Left Right up down.
