also certain tables are less heavy than others, also depending on what you have enabled in the video preferences..

so which rev was then the best for you? or do you always get stutter with VPX in general?

I'm getting that stutter with VPX in general. Weird thing is, that it appears only in VPinMAME tables. VP only tables are working smoothly without stutter.

rev2877 is up:

- add VPM version check for modulated flashers and fix a bunch of typos (core.vbs)
- add key code mapping list (documented key code list ist VPMKeys.vbs)
- revert one change from rev 2831 where the physics/key/timer loop was synced to the real current time (now its synced to the starting time of the physics code again)
- code cleanup

Fuzzel, Toxie,

Many thanks to you guys for the continuous dedication and development of VP. I can safely speak for everyone that you time and efforts are very much appreciated and enjoyed every time we play VP. I still remain absolutely in awe with the project as a whole and I am thankful that I found it during a rather dark time in my life - that was in desperate need of a rewarding hobby.

Every single day I look forward to new tables by the talented authors and I also look forward to contributing what little bit I can to bring a smile to the other pinball enthusiasts all over the globe.

Again, a million thanks for everything you two do to advance VP as well as the others that contribute to our wonderful hobby and help to preserve pinball history.

:love39: :love39: :love39:

I'm getting that stutter with VPX in general. Weird thing is, that it appears only in VPinMAME tables. VP only tables are working smoothly without stutter.

I have a pretty mediocre system updated with a GTX-750ti and had a GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1024MB before.

My previous setup was still capable to play most VPX only tables, most VPXM's without DMD and if I was very lucky even including directb2s and some VPM games including DMD without directb2s

The GTX-750ti improved things quite a bit, but there are still VPXM tables that cause stutter (especially the first released VPX tables with excessive light shows).

Most tables now work fine though, and if they don't I just play them without directb2s. I think the latest VPX tables are really well done by the table authors and play a lot smoother.

So indeed VP only tables are a lot less demanding and I agree with toxie, it really depends on the table and settings in VPX. I am pretty sure it is possible to create a table that will cause performance issues on even the most powerful setups.

Sure, but I think an agreed upon baseline is a good guide for table devs, too.   Somone might make a table with a light show that would make the Grizwold's jealous.    That's great, but if it's unplayable on the "recommended" system, it's a good indication that some of the eye candy should be made optional, and probably defaulted to "off".

On my side Medieval Madness X runs with rev 2874 as smooth as with VPX 10.1 and Scared Stiff has a little stuttering I would say equal to revs 2830 and below, but it doesn't impact gameplay

++

I'm seeing the same results under rev 2874.  I think Scared Stiff is just very resource hungry.  Even so it only shows stutter when the lights are very intense like during Scared Stiff mode.  Still very playable.

Thank you SO much for all of the hard work to put in to get everything back to running smoothly!

Till now, I didn't notice any difference between windowed full screen and true full screen, in terms of visual performance.

This afternoon I played Scared Stiff Advanced Flashers with rev 2877 and I noticed that the table runs more smoothly in true FS than in windowed FS.

I mean that even if it's hard to quantify, the ball, even in multiball mode, looks more stutter free than in windowed FS mode.
So from now on I let true FS as default.

I am still thinking of replacing my GeForce 770 by a 980 just to be more comfortable with the future of VPX.
However I don't know if it's a good idea.

one minor thing with the new rev 2877:

could you guys please test if the mixer volume up/down keys still works roughly the same as before on your setup (just in case you used that functionality before)?

Thanks ;)

@Toxie : volume keys (- and =) don't seem to work : volume doesn't change and the volume bar displays colored bars instead of going up or down ;)

Well the volume keys kind of work. You have to press them repeatedly to get them to move one bar at a time. Also, I still say they are backwards. + for volume down and - for volume up?

Camera mode keys are working correctly again!

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 1060 might be the best deal right now.

I have a couple feature requests floating around in my head..  I have the feeling they may not be possible, but thought I'd ask.

Flippers, would it be possable to make the "bat" not visible, but leave the rubber visible? (ideally switchable via script..)  On a couple tables I'm working on I've set option to swap materials for both the bat and rubber to add custom flipper colors..  works really well...  but I'd also like to be able to swap in a custom primitive bat, but still use the build in rubber.

These I'm not sure about or how they could be best implemented..  but..

I've been honing in acrylic plastics that are blacklight reactive...  I've set them up so that they glow with the lighting disable check box check..  but since they are transparent they also get lit from the GI also..  they look great when the GI is off and a bit blown out when the GI is on..  so I was thinking maybe a material setting that disables being lit by table lights? but still be able to be transparent..

Last one..  sorta like the last..  but the opposite..  a material setting or light setting... So that an object (primitive) is only lit by a specific light.. or a light that only lights specific objects...   but then that light would not affect other objects..  example..  I've been toying around with LED bulbs..  when off, they have a non transparent material..  when on transparent..  Currently they are lit by the GI and look great..  until the GI goes off then they are no longer lit.  If I could hide a light under the table to still light these LED and not other table objects that would rock!!

None of these are deal breakers but would be nice!!  thanks!!!!!!!!

In short: nope not possible, sorry

Flippers: The VP flippers are generated based on the values you entered in the editor. To combine them with a custom primitive would be pita and would never really look good.

Materials: both requests aren't possible without hacks and we try to minimize the hacks as far as possible because we want to drop the static render phase some day and add a dynamic camera view. Adding hacks makes it complicated to add other nice effects like shadows, correct lighting and so on.

And the last point is: we are in feature freeze mode for VP 10.2 now, whatever that could mean

Same behavior in my cab for the volume buttons (actually I use the magna save buttons to modify the volume ingame and IMO it's awesome ;-)
