hey guys iv slightly amended the VPinMAME.dll iv made the usb baud very slightly slower it seams to stop the slight flickering you get when running dim colours in fast animations (tales from crypt insert coin animation)

iv uploaded the new version smile.gif

let me know if its an imporvement or not hehe (looks much better for me)

can download the VPinMAME.dll from mine and snots sig smile.gif

ALSO - some REALLY good news smile.gif

Noah Fentz has managed to get hold of the vishay displays!!!! i think he will be stocking the orange ones? im not sure yet but i will be sending him some pinDMD's for testing soon to make sure they are ok.

so hopefully this is the DMD shortage problem and you will all soon have a place to buy your DMD's from smile.gif

Thanks again for your continued great work on this little marvel.

Maybe it is just me, but the new .dll seems to make any flickering worse. At least on my red segmented display.
I went back to the previous version.
Anyone else tried them yet?
I tested both versions on No Fear.

With my led orange, the flickering is also less present with the previous dll.

I check on any Williams pin, when you start a game, and the score 00 is blinking.

strange, ok ill revert back to the old version of the .dll smile.gif

iv reverted back to the old version of the .dll for you guys

strange how slower baud works better for me

iv put a switch in the .dll any way that checks the FTDI eeprom pinDMD serial number, default is DMD1000 but if its set to DMD1001 you will get the slower usb baud (works better for me)

any way if you don't touch any thing it will all run how it did before smile.gif

been working on the next generation of pinDMD smile.gif

this new board is FPGA based with a new dual channel VERY FAST FTDI USB chip smile.gif (FT2232D)
it will be able to easily do 16 colour it could probably do 64 colour!!! lol (so perfect for when the 16 colour games are released (when ever that is??))
the refresh rate will be extremely fast so there will be 0 flickering!!!
the new FTDI chip also has extremely fast 8BIT FIFO for sending the frame data so no lag/ jittery frames
the firmware can be updated just by a click of a button (no moving jumpers about)
also swapping to a new USB B connector much much sturdier then the current mini b usb connector
the board will also include a SPI interface for sending frame data (in-case people want to use it in embedded projects)

this version will be absolutely perfect!!! with crystal clear / smooth DMD animations!!!

im in the process of creating the bread board prototype if this all works ok, ill send of the pcb design for prototyping. if this works ok. ill gather some interest and maybe run a small batch run for any one who's interested

Only downside to this new version is the components are FAR more expensive, there are alot more of them and the pcb is bigger then my original pinDMD so this board will be a bit more expensive!!

its gonna be a good 6 months untill the first test batch run but it is some thing definitely in the pipeline smile.gif

dads struggling a little bit with the power board, it needs a custom coil to create the correct voltages and is very hard to prototype these, seams to be a certain art to getting them right as so many variables change how it performs. but he is still trying smile.gif

this new pinDMD will not be ready for a while but its nice to know people are interested smile.gif

All the new features sound wonderful. smile.gif
Almost makes me sad to be an early adopter sad.gif
But I am very happy an playing with a real DMD right now which is the most important thing.
Keep up the great work.
