Just to give everyone a bit of news...
For 4 color systems, data for each pixel is 0, 1, 2, 3.
3 colors + off.

GTS3 systems use 0, 3, 6, 9 and F... technically thats 5 hues, not 4.
4 colors + off.

I will be discussing a solution with russ, but we still might need to use a different firmware to solve this.
Latest cabinet dll with pinDMD integration here!

You know..gets me to wondering if the reason for the DMD shortage has somethign to do with the "ghosting" that we are seeing...

Installed my plasma Vishay last night and the result was stunning. Lovely vibrant display, a massive improvement over using an LCD, really is night and day. It was expensive but definitely worth it.

There was a tiny amount of flickering/tearing, so I set about installing the latest firmware. Only thing is now it's not working properly as the display is garbled. Not sure what happened as I followed the instructions explicitly, have PMd Russ and will not do anything further until he messages back.

Some pics (when it was working!) :

i would suggest trying to flash the firmware again smile.gif

Cheers Russ, is the latest firmware I need the one in your sig? I think the previous version was v2 on the display.

Also is the best way to reboot the firmware (which is where it went wrong) to power everything down and reboot, or hot unplug/plug?

@thewool: which firmware did you flash, the 4 color or the 16 color? I'm going to flash back to 4 color because 16 color is giving me "blinking" issues and the display doesn't seem to use more than 4 anyway smile.gif

just seen a video from thewool its not a firmware fault, its not sending the frame to the dmd correctly at all!!

either SPI fault on the pinDMD
fault with the 14 way cable
14 way cable not plugged in correct
or somin wrong with the display

hopefully cable not plugged in correctly lol, would be very rare just for the SPI to die on the lpc2103

you cant tongue.gif

it wasn't working very well for people so me and snotz have removed it. no games use 16 colour yet so its pretty much useless at this point + really needs new hardware to run correctly!

You know Russ this got me thinking. I would bet anything you could do something like this with your technology!

http://www.colordmd.com/FAQ.html

Instead of taking the rom output and sending it to a real DMD, do you think its possible to send it to an LCD screen with your little pindmd board grabbing the DMD images and adding color based on the grayscales? Imagine all of the support you would have with everyone that is excited to have their DMD games play in color? We could assist in the colorization per game and it would be a huge community project.... If there was a way to store the colorcodes in the nvram or registry, you could create quite a collection!

Just a thought! coffee1.gif

Reason I made the board was to get people off the lcd screens smile.gif
To do your lcd idea u don't need my board at all just a spare vga port. Its all software smile.gif

Not really a fan of a color pinball dmd's I love the original 4 color pixel art smile.gif takes some real skill to draw Tht stuff smile.gif

Interesting idea though smile.gif

I just found a bug, for Cueball Wizard.

Every time before launching a ball, there's a vid with the cowboy ready to pull the ball, vid is crappy and looks good with the "old" system.

Old system is without led display & driver board

I compared the vid on my vishay and simulanteous pinmame on my 40" screen.

With latest dll and firmware of course wink.gif

I can't post video for the moment of the problem.
