could you post the script that you used for the Elvis table? I'd like to see what you added and where to get powerpoint to work

Does HyperPin support animated backglasses; those with lighting effects, reel image based separated 4 player scoring, movement like on Bad Cats, etc... such as used in the spanned 16:9 releases or is it limited to just to static images? huh.gif

Yes, it does...

Are you sure it does? The below quoted comments would lead me to believe it doesn't...

I'm still on the fence regarding losing the backglass animation, reels etc...I know its not part of the actual playability but it seems to lose some of its authenticity which is a shame.

I don't think I am going to be happy with the lack of working reels on the backglass for the older games etc but maybe I'll attempt to use the scripts to do profile switching for those and run them in spanned mode. Not sure how that will go as yet as I'm just trying to get the core working.

Rossicomputers:

Thanks for the tip, but I would still like to play around with a script alternative, if you have a working script laying around.

Use this free program http://www.irfanview.com/
Open your picture with Irfanview. Drag the picture to the second monitor, and then double click on the picture.
It will then full screen on the monitot that it is open in.
Irfanview has settings that allow for automatically stretch the picture and preserving aspect ratio.
Is this what you were looing for?
BTW You can make a large animated gif and irfanview will also display that full screen.
Irfanview can also export a slide show as an exe. This means you can get VP to open the desired exe for the appropiate table you want.

That would work. How would I script this in a table?

I use Hyperpin and the backglasses are not animated for VP, it's only static. Future pinball the backglass is anamited. I don't think you can do spanning in Hyperpin either because when it was tried hyperpin would come back with the graphics messed up. After you exit a VP table that is.

if you want animated lights on the backglass and can't span, powerpoint and irfanview are the way to go, but you still won't have the reels or in backglass displays.

I don't need lights or reels, etc. I'm okay with a static backglass. However, Hyperpin doesn't support 4/3 monitors. I have a 22 inch 4:3 monitor for a playfield and a 19 inch 4:3 monitor mounted about it for the backglass.

Dual monitors yes. 16:9 no, so I can't use hyperpin, which looks fabulous.

I would like to have backglass in VP automatically load with a table, though.

you should private message Flying dutchman, I know he has a working script for powerpoint that he used in vp8, I think Steely also has it working. I think one of them could surely explain it to you, and they are both extremely nice helpful people. biggrin.gif

So that's no, HyperPin doesn't support either the spanning or the animated backglasses of the 16:9 releases hosted here. Thank you for answering to my query, cyberk30 and unclewilly.

I havnt tested these options in VP but I have used them in another aplication to open an external exe

To open a exe file you have to use shell command:

Shell "C:\Windows\YOURFILE.exe", vbHide 'Your application will be hidden to the user
Shell "C:\Windows\YOURFILE", vbMaximizedFocus 'Your application will have focus and will be maximized
Shell "C:\Windows\YOURFILE", vbMinimizedFocus 'Your application will have focus and will be minimized
Shell "C:\Windows\YOURFILE", vbMinimizedNoFocus 'Your application will have no focus and will be minimized
Shell "C:\Windows\YOURFILE", vbNormalFocus 'Your application will have focus and with normal mode
Shell "C:\Windows\YOURFILE", vbNormalNoFocus 'Your application will have no focus and with normal mode

Make sure you specify the exact path to your exe.

Let me know how you go.

to be honest val, I really have no idea, bill was working on getting the spanning to work, but neither of our cabinet configurations support the spanning. I'm not sure the issue bill is having, but my cabinet doesn't have a rotated backglass so when I tried to spann the backglasses were sideways. I'm sorry I didn't answer you earlier, I was trying to keep to the topic of how to get a backglass image on a second monitor and since spanning wasn't an option and 4:3 monitors were being used powerpoint or irfanview are really the only option.
at this point in hyperpins beta stage spanning is not yet supported, but it is being worked on and if bill can get it working properly it will be included in a future release.

I was able to get an Irfanview slidehow file to open on the second monitor when I open a table and close when I close the table. Thanks for all the help in this thread and on the forum:

Can you please post the final code that worked for you, so we can have a reference. Thanks

Remember that you can make a 3 or 4 frame animated gif, so as to simulate the lights flashing on the back glass.

Elvis.EXE is the slideshow created in Irfanview
the command line switch displays it on my second monitor

' added at the end of Sub Table1_Init

Dim ShellCom
Set ShellCom = CreateObject("wscript.shell")
ShellCom.Run("C:\Backglass\Elvis.EXE /monitor=2")
Set ShellCom = nothing

Controller.SetDisplayPosition 540, -240, GetPlayerHWnd

End Sub

Sub Table1_Exit()
Dim ShellCom
Set ShellCom = CreateObject("wscript.shell")
ShellCom.Run("%COMSPEC% /C taskkill /f /im ELVIS.exe")
Set ShellCom = nothing
End Sub
