I just finished all of the lettering but I'm too tired to post a screenshot. I'll post a new one tomorrow after I put in some black masks for the holes in the playfield where the "floor" is showing through in the original photograph of the playfield.

Here's some screen-candy for the eyes:

The layer of the black masks for the holes is turned off since I'm still working on it...

Some things of note:

TAB's La Retata table and PacDude's High Speed table are being used for reference for item placement, ramp placement & ramp heights etc while posts and rubbers are being borrowed from Eala's posts table and JP's rubber bands for example.

The plunger lane outer-wall for example was particularly difficult and I had to borrow the wall from TAB's La Retata table in order to make the ball plunge all the way around the top plastic ramp. The angle & curve of the wall I had made was making the ball exit straight into the red light target of the lower-left stop-light.

Same for the ramps, I spent a couple of frustrating hours last night trying to position the wire ramps so during lunch today I resorted to copying TAB's La Retata ramps and then moving them around slightly until the ball flowed smoothly.

Now the ball rolls nice and smooth along all of the ramps. Maybe tonight or tomorrow I'll hunt down the wire ramp rings from the 90's workshop and get them welded into place. Due to the curves and angles of these wire ramps, I'm going to try and be creative and make the wire ramp rings appear thicker than just using a flat image.

Best Regards,
Todd.

p.s. in case anyone is wondering, I will release both a Desktop 4x3 version and a Fullscreen version.

Looking great man! I have never played this table in VP or real life, and High Speed II is in my top 3 list. Looking forward to checking it out.

I've not hunted down how it's been done in the 90's workshop, but here's (attached) an old zip I have (by Hakyoku Seiken, taken from Pinball Nirvana), that has angle independent rings, includes images for making your own.

Dan.

Thanks Dan! Unfortunately, I bet that's the old way that to make wire ramp rings. JP's wire rings and ramps technique uses a single ring image and it's much cleaner too, but lacks the optical illusion of a metal wire I am hoping is possible.

Todd.

Two more screenshots for the night, I've been meaning to use the "active ball" trick to for some time to change the ball colour as it rolls around the playfield, so here are two screenshots showing the ball with a green highlight and a red highlight. When the ball hits one of these two giant triggers on the top and bottom of the playfield, it changes the tint on the ball colour.

green

red

Best Regards,
Todd.

p.s. I also added the wire ramp ring images but I'm not satisfied with them yet, they "look" too thin.

Thanks UW, my only hope is to make High Speed live up to the high standards set by table designers such as (in no particular order), UR, Noah, JP, Lord Hiryu, GRONI, and yourself... I know, I am missing many from that very short list... It's just there so people will see how high I've set the bar for myself, especially after releasing only two or three tables myself. I can hardly wait to see your Pin*Bot family and the Strikes and Spares you've taken up the reigns from Trout, his artwork is really something to behold.

Todd.

Not much has changed with the table layout, all I have beeing doing is:

- added the spinner guides
- checked the table to make sure the ball won't get stuck anywhere
- added the transparent ramp covers & the transparent ramp exit which prevents the ball from smashing into the spinner guide and stopping dead
- other minor tweaks to the table object placement

Also, I was having an issue with transparency. A reminder to all, when using transparent images on ramps to make sure the image mode is set to world instead of wrap. Here's the difference:

image mode wrap:

image mode world:

hey todd what are you using for the transparent texture? is it one of the checkerboard textures. If it is let me know and i'll send you one thats a little better. It's a solid color and uses 123.123.123 for the transparency. It comes out looking very clean.

use this one with the transparency color set to 123.123.123
i think with that transparency most solid colors become transparent when applied to ramps with image mode world and acrylic checked.
But this one looks really nice and i use it in most of my newer tables
