Hi!

I too had to switch from the full W7 64 to W7 tiny 32 instead when I wanted to try W7 (had WinXP 32 before) as I have the OCX 30gb SSD, which is a bit on the smaller side Imust say.
Have around 110 tables atm.

But I think 60 Gb would be more than enough if you your not one of the collectors who wants it ALL! hi.gif

Cheers!

2 items arrived today the plunger

and the gtx 460 already installed tongue.gif

the flat pack should be here this week.

i still noticed a little stutter even with the 460 i still suspect it has to do with the crappy ram i got with the m/b once i get my ocz ram in should fix that. i'll also prob get a sound card right now i'm running off the m/b sound...if there's room for one those vid cards are slot hogs!

also maybe change the sound system to a EDIFIER R251
ok i have to stop this build is out of control laugh.gif

Thanks for the updates and photos. It's great to see the cab progression.
Having a cabinet to play full screen pins is awesome! Check out my mini pin cab here on VPForums.

the painter for the custom gfx is screwing me around never answers email or phone so i'm going to look for another that does custom graphics in the brisbane area.

what brand of ssd would you recommend? and yeah i'm putting a 3.5" usb 4 port device in the front of my cab i've got an external hdd i can backup stuff on to plug into it.

I've been using a lot of Kingston SSDs. The V+100 model is 64Gb, which seems to be plenty, and it gets very good ratings for the money. CPU (Computer Power User) just did a review of a bunch of SSDs this month, and the Kingston did very well against the competition - even the SandForce based units (which typically hold the crown for #1).

One of the advantages of the Kingston V+100 is that is does internal garbage collection, so it's ideal for a Windows XP based cabinet. Most other SSDs depend on TRIM to do that work, and Windows XP doesn't support that feature - thus those SSDs will slow down over time unless you install Windows 7 on them.

You can read the review online at CPU, pages 16-20.

i installed my OCZ 6GB KIT PC3-10666 9-9-9 @ 1.65v GOLD SERIES ram today and i don't understand it i'm still getting ball stutter in some tables like in cv when i launch the ball there's about 1 sec lagg for a few secs. with all these specs this machine should be running identical to my desktop and that plays perfectly. why am i still getting ball stutter is it cos i'm using the on board sound?? i've tweaked everything else possible to make the cab run as mooth as possible...

I have noticed that some tables will stutter the first time they use a sound, as though the sound is being decompressed or loaded, or something. Once the sound has been played, the table runs smoothly from that point on (unless you restart Visual Pinball, of course). I, too, am using onboard audio, and was wondering the same thing. I considered borrowing a SoundBlaster from the local computer shop to see if it made a difference, but haven't gotten around to it yet - been too busy building the cabinet lately.

I have heard of this problem before, but never experienced it. I use onboard sound on both my cabinet and my desktop. Running XP on the cabinet and Vista64 on the desktop.

i tried disabling the on board audio and ran the table with no sound nope it still does it. and on other tables get ball stutter too so i don't have a clue what's causing it everything should be working perfectly with these specs windows 7 is not the problem i have almost same setup on my desktop and it runs perfectly!! maybe the tv itself has lag issues?

Try plugging your cabinet system into a PC monitor to test your theory. I don't think it would be TV lag though.

i temp turned the cab into a 2 monitor setup and had the playfield on the 27" and it STILL got ball stutter. so i dont know what else to do or whats causing it or maybe it's the drivers but the lowest drivers i can use for both cards is v270.61

I had this on some games like Bttf, problem was a large ledwiz line on that game. I had taken a copy of chriz configuration with all the flashers. As soon as I reduced the complexity of the string it was fine. This is assuming you are using a ledwiz at this point.

Have you tried this?

Open your nVidia control panel > Select 'Manage 3D settings' from the left menu. You will see Power management mode on the list of settings and variables. Change the Power Management setting in the drivers to Prefer maximum performance.

Failing that you could try NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) 6.0.2 and force higher clock settings in 2D mode.

performance mode didn't fit it and the bios editor get error can't start driver 1275 message. i don't think its the gfx cards that are causing this anyway they both have more than enough power.

the only other thing that could be causing this that i can think of is the m/b or maybe the hdd.

I have experienced this problem on CV and a few other tables. For me switching from Win 7to XP fixed it. I realize that you are using SSD and the trim issue involved with switching to XP. I to have an SSD and so far so good on XP. Time will tell if the lack of trim creats a problem. My cab runs so much smoother with XP. But I know others have had great success on Win 7.
