Update on the Rift S since owning it for a week plus now...

Not much has changed as far as my opinion and suggesting buying it if you already have the CV1. Don't. It's just not worth it IMO if you plan on using it for mostly VP:thmbdn:

The major issue is with the "Z" or table height always changing which is a massive pain in the ass and most defiantly a deal breaker for VPVR. Every single time I want to play it or show someone I have to re-adjust and guess what height to set it which takes multiple times taking the headset on/off, on/off, on/off. Sucks.

Not being able to adjust brightness or contrast with the now milky gray LCD screens sucks as well. Not an issue per say if there is a room in VPVR like TAF or normal games but watching a movie on Bigscreen, horror games or anything with the majority of the screen black i would almost welcome back the God rays in exchange for the milky blacks of the Rift S. Ridiculous.

With the new headphones installed Koss Porta Pros the sound is back to normal but still have some tweaking to do on the 3d designed 3d prints for the brackets and cable management so if you are looking to upgrade the sound and use the Koss Porta Pros I can send you the file to 3d print.

Tried playing TOTAN this weekend in VR and for some reason I can't get it too work. The table just starts nudging like crazy the moment the table loads even after I turned all of the nudging options to zero in the editor?

@3rdaxis:

I did not experience that. On the HTC vive (original one), totan just loads and you can play. I am now starting on the cave around it and borrowing some cabinet primitives from your taf environment.

Yea I'm sure it's something on my end because TAF and other tables run okay but as soon as TOTAN's rom loads up in the game it just starts nudging like crazy and tilt's the game. So weird.

For the life of me I can't figure out whats going on..

With Adams family, for example;

"Machine 'TAF_L7' (Addams Family, The (L-5 Prototype L-7)) terminated before initializing, check the rom path or rom file!"

Im pretty sure I have the correct roms.

I have about 6 tables that don't finish initiating with similar messages

I do have Funhouse working

Are you keeping the rom compressed in the Zip file?

--------------

Yes

D:\Visual Pinball\VPinMAME\roms\taf_l7.zip

D:\Visual Pinball\VPinMAME\roms\taf_l6.zip

D:\Visual Pinball\VPinMAME\roms\taf_l5.zip

As you can see, Iv'e tried a few different ones just in case.

Weird,   Once i setup my guardian, and centered my height to where i want it to be in the rift-S its stayed that way.   i've opened up many tables in a row, and they all seem to be where i like them.   I am mostly using FSS tables in vr, as i find the backglasses work (like in Scared Stiff) and also, most DMD's are where you'd expect them to be.  Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

I also went from CV1 to Rift-S and for me its been fantastic.  i do find a bit more jitter from time to time,  which i am assuming is from the tracking,  but i love not having to mess with sensors.

BTW,  fantasic work on the room again,    i'm working through the process of trying to change out the tables,   i think i am almost there!

Yea I don't know whats up with my headset. It always ask's me to reset my guardian and floor height so maybe that's it. Not sure what else to do to try and fix it though.

Do you move it around much?

Before my last update it would sort of reset itself, even sometimes in a game. It after my last update that seems to go away

Got ac/dc put into your room. Everything is purple except the game itself. Making headway! So glad for your help on how to cut and paste it and all your work getting it to TAF. Gonna keep playing with it !

God what anxiety to get this going...

I FINALLY got it figured out and wanted to post just so others don't beat their head like I did..

" terminated before initializing, check the rom path or rom file!"

Turns out HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ROM CONFIGURATION

I had [Force Exclusive Fullscreen mode] checked.

In VP go -preferences, Video Options, and try unchecking "Force exclusive Fullscreen Mode"

https://www.vpforums...showtopic=42595

Heres the link in case your mouse icon disappears when hovering over VP

https://camerondwyer...al-studio-code/

This kind of worked for me..

Hope this helps others someday..

Now most all my tables are working, except the new VR addition of Adams family, the bumpers stick for some reason.

The Addams Family (Bally 1992) v2.1_VR0.8.9.vpx in non VR mode. 3D = disabled

Turning down graphic settings helped..

I must be missing something here. Is there a way to get direct b2s backglass to work in VR. The server is registered and the backglass shows on my monitor but not in VR headset, and some b2s backglass's actually show in VR but aren't working (static).

I have the DMD working in VR pretty much for all of my tables and adding the backglass as a static image works but I really want to get my direct b2s tables working as well.

@WilsonB
Go to your registry and make sure your DDraw is set to 0 for this ROM.
Then start VP new and try again.

Use FSS tables. They work champ.

As it says here in the wiki the b2s implementation is experimental and currently not complete:

https://sourceforge....wiki/DirectB2S/

It's basically a static render of the backglass image with an approximation of the dmd location if you have a textbox on the table.

As electricmagma said FSS tables work because the author built everything in the editor instead of using b2s.

Pretty sure the author is using some form of B2S server, as DOF does work on these tables,  and its my understanding that DOF relies on that?

Well B2S and FSS are not mutually exclusive. :)

FSS just means the person who created the table baked all the backglass features directly into the table, you can still also have a b2s backglass if you have the files and the right settings in the script.

For DOF I have no idea I don't have a cab and play exclusively on desktop/VR. :)

OK thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't doing something wrong. I'm sure that in time everything will be working but for now I guess we all have to wait :)

I'm using the flasher method as with that you can easily adjust the DMD to fit the backglass DMD window.

To all of the devs working on all of this, you guys are awesome. I guess I should become a supporter :)

I know that I have a lot of questions but i'm just getting caught up here.

So here is one more question; When I delete the text box and don't use the b2s I keep getting an error when I run the table (B2S server - object reference not set to an instance of an object) .

When I click OK on it everything runs fine but it's a pain when playing in VR since it stops the my game controller from working.

How do I get rid of this since I'm not using b2s backglass on these tables

Best Regards,

Jeff

I showed off the pinmicro at a few bars this weekend.  It was a total hit!  I love showing off pinball (and VR) to non pinball people.  Some girls was so excited that she was "transported" to a new room.  I often forget people don't understand VR.  I hope to have a few more vids on the "pinMicro" and "PinStubby" as they aren't that hard to build and it really helps, even without VR.  Can't remember when I first built my first pinball controller, but it was many years ago and its just incredible how far everything has come.

Thanks for all the updates on the VR build of VPX, love the separate VR settings screen.

Has anyone else streamed this to a Oculus Quest with VD or ALVR.  I tried today for the first time in a while, and it was pretty good (not as good as CV1) but without a cable its great.

Anyone know how the SS works in the settings, does it override the Steam VR Super Sampling settings?  Lowest common denominator?

Anyone seen any difference in the new Nvidia driver from 8/20/19 (i think) that has an ultra low latency control panel setting?  This is all GL based so not sure how that will work or if there is any no effect.

SS is additive so you never want to set it in two places, either set it in VPVR, Oculus Tray tool if you got Ocolus or SteamVR but only set it one place or you will super sample the supersampling and get performance issues for no real benefit.
