Russ, I have a chance of a 128x32 Vishay 12v plasma DMD.

Do you think there is a chance your Dad will get that power board fettled? If not I doubt I'd ever get it working.

Thanks.

Sorry to insist russdx, but why do you prefer the plasma, I'm just trying to understand your opinion.

I also don't like too bright displays, to not be dazzled in the dark.

It's difficult to choose without testing, so I need as many information as possible.

iv only played with a pin-led display not the vishay led versions so they might be alot better i dont no sad.gif but i do have a 192x64 plasma dmd and i much prefer it to the pin-led. all the pixels are perfectly spaced, it has a much softer orange/brown glow to it. the pixels are much smaller with more space around them.

you can buy 12v vishay plasma dmds but they are $$$$ - led versions are the cheaper alternative.

ouch to the price though!! lol

my dads a bit busy at the moment so i dont think his plasma driver board will be done any time soon sad.gif

Have you got a data sheet for the Vishay DMD's that need the weird voltages russdx?
There is a place that I have got custom transformers made that would be able to wind the transformer needed for this then it would be a case of working out the recitfication and filtering/conditioning for each of the voltages. Just curious to see what it would cost to build.

Hello maxxsinner,

Do you see the defaults on your vishay that russdx sees with his pinled?

Have not tested the LED vishay as yet. Have a board on the way from russdx so will post some video as soon as I can of the results.

I was only asking about the power requirements for the Plasma version of the DMD to see what was required to make a compatible power supply and what costs would be involved.

I have a spare pinball 2000 transformer I could part with for a nominal fee if someone wants it for this project.
I am in eastern PA but won't ship it (too heavy) so if you are in driving distance PM me.

did the pinball 2000 machines use the old dmd displays? the transformer would have to be from a pinball that used a original plasma dot matrix smile.gif

Nope the pinball 2000 machines used a CRT display, but supplied all necessary voltages to be downward compatible with other components.
The same transformer would have the voltages needed (80v and 100v) for the DMD display for this project.

update on plasma dmd power board

my dad is saying to get this done fast and easy he needs to take apart an existing 12v plasma dmd (used on the 192x64 games).

problem is, im not gonna rip my one apart as they cost like £400 / not gonna buy another just to take it apart. its not worth it.

i really need a broken one so my dad can take it apart and see how it works. does any one know the best place to get a broken 192x64 dc plasma dot matrix?

i know the old williams dot mation slots used them as well.

or a schematic for the 192x64 integrated power supply version would be perfect.

EDIT

i found the schematic for it !!!!
will show dad see what he thinks smile.gif
