I like how you contrasted the playfield areas - at the bottom you have a bunch of small tight shots, and at the back everything is big and bold - as if you are working up from mere mortals to the gods. smile.gif Was that aspect intentional, or simply a beneficial subliminal side effect of the layout?

Build a fire, vipers love the heat.

I'd like to say it was intentional... unfortunately it appears just to be an artifact of the general layout that I was going for... I'm a big fan of pinball games with flow - I don't like trapping the ball, craddling it, and then making a shot as much as I like the feel of consitent shots coming from the end of alternating ramps or sequential orbits, etc. (the left ramp is most likely going to be altered to keep the flow going) Hopefully this pin design compromises a little bit and allows for both though, with the three drop targets and all the stand-ups on the main playfield and the four Zeus targets on the upper (which by design I did make to be a challenging shot - scaling the cliffs to ascend to Mount Olympus should not be an easy venture.)

BTW - still looking for any volunteers intereted in painting or digitally painting a backglass design for this baby...

I'm no artist but what about this concept that someone could potentially turn into a Backglass:

The mountain of "Olympus" is in the background, with a blue sky, scattered with clouds.
Green trees are at the base of the mountain.
Zeus is big, front and centered in the foreground, lightening bolts in each hand. (similar to the artwork on the playfield, just above the flippers.)
Medusa, Ares, Cerberus, Hades, Hydra, Poseidon, and the Minotaur are all "smaller" in a semi-circle facing Zeus, somewhat prepared to attack Zeus.
(yeah, that probably wouldn't happen, but it's a backglass, not a retelling of the fables.)

Best Regards,
Todd.

Wow, this looks great. Love the art package you've done. Normally I don't care for custom tables, but i'll DL this one, Lots of potential here for a great game, depending how deep you go with the rules. Looking forward to it. If you make it LOTR deep, it could be phenomenal.

Sweet visual - would make a really cool painting. WOOLY's rule set and objectives don't quite fit that motif but it is a cool idea. The attached images are kinda where I was thinking the backglass would go - the first being a simple napkin sketch showing olympus in the background, Zeus on top and the rest of the gods and monsters assaulting the earth, the second is a laid back simple view of olympus and the sky, the third option could mimic the he-man poster - I love the composition and style on that one...

Currently the rule set is about six pages deep, single spaced... should be decently deep with a good variation of specific shots and challenges.

Are you planning on using DMD for this table? or SS type alpha/numb scoring? If you are looking into DMD we might have something that would make doing your DMD easier. It's currently undergoing testing right now to see if data can be pushed fast enough between VP and our DMD app to be a viable solution for custom DMD tables. Hopefully I'll have more information on this sometime soon.

DMD would be FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!! Initial plan is to utilize basic text similar to what JP has done in his Pirates table, however, from the start of this pin design I've always kept in mind trying to make this into a real pinball machine. With that said I'd love to implement a DMD display after the initial release, and one that would hopefully be utilized in the real pinball machine build once the VP version is done...

Spent a little time modelling WOOLY in 3D space while the rule set and all other programming is being done on the VP version. Things are looking like they should fit in the lay-out as planned - making this into a real pin looks like more and more of a possibility every day...

I about fell over when JP said he'd help me with the table (and when I say help, I mean rebuild, refine, and do most of the work!!). Thanks again JP!! you're making dreams come true...

Yes, I took T-800 table and rebuild it from scratch using his layout. Actually I only modified a little his original table, but instead to change many of the objects I simply rebuild it, since it was faster for me to do it so. Then I changed his original playfield and plastic images to add the inserts and the general ilumination.

Now I have started with the script, but it will take some time to finish, since there are a lot of modes and challenges in his rulessheet smile.gif This will be the most time consuming part.

Are you guys going with the alpha numeric display or would you like to test out a new DMD application?

http://www.hyperspin...DMD-coming-soon!

HyperDMD is an application that will let you create custom DMD and DMD animations for custom tables. It then will display the DMD on a real DMD or LCD screens. VP can send commands and displays to HyperDMD. Basically this can do almost everything that a DMD can do. The app is almost done. Just a couple tweaks and finishing documentation.

Just thought I'd bring this up before you got too deep into coding.

I'm going for the alphanumeric, since that is what I prefer, but I should like to test the DMD application. At first I could always use it as an alphanumeric and add some animations when all the script is finished smile.gif
