Banzai Run, just played and its great, but could be much better, please JP

 

Banzai Run is an interesting Story. Unfortunately not 2nd screen emulation in vpinmame or vpx yet(don't know the technical background of this), which im sure not easy to emulate to implement thats why not exists yet i think.

There is an amazing FSS version which is fit good for larger screens and as i heard its good for VR too (just what i heard i don't know anything about VR VPX).

 

I prefer Groni's way(playing on main screen and the secondary screen go to main screen when you have to play on it) and i waited a vpx version too, but i understand that most of the guy plays on a BIG cabinet and not on a 27 inch monitor than i am.

So i don't think there will be a "classic" (Groni style) Banzai Run in VPX Slydog43 as i heard, if you have large screen(or VR if its playable under VR)  try the FSS version it's amazing.

I think the Groni way was about as good as it can get for Banzai Run. I hope some day someone is able to do the same in VPX so cabinet users can enjoy it with the VPX benefits (physics, better lighting, etc). In saying that the VP9 version is very good so they can at least enjoy it right now.

 

... but yes, the FSS version is fantastic and it's a premier showcase for VR because it just works like it should.

Since I originally made my list, many of the tables on my list have been made in great VPX versions now ... So here is a new updated list:

 

- Space Mission / Space Odyssey (Williams 1976) - I own a mint Space Odyssey - but want to see it in VPX.

- Waterworld (Gottlieb 1995)

- Checkpoint (Data East 1991)

- Cherry Bell (Sonic 1978)

- Riverboat Gambler (Wiliams 1990)

 

To my knowledge - these have not been "officially" released.

The older tables seemed to hit a wall - Contest (1958), Lightning Ball (1959) and Humpty Dumpty (1947) are the only ones that come to mind right away. I might have missed a couple. So, maybe...

I would be interesting in building these if we had scanned assets for them. The older ones are tough because the farther back you go the harder it is to get good resources.

I have new assets for Space Mission - scanned playfield and plastics at 600dpi. My hope is to have it done by the end of 2020.

I think I tried a real Waterworld before, can't remember for sure but if yes the volume was real low so couldn't hear any of the call-outs but I think it was "ok".  I'm not sure we've ever had a "good assets" version for VP so hopefully that's something coming someday, if anything for curiosity's sake and to add an unfamiliar DMD to our collection

Phooey, oops, I forgot about that. Mermaid has a good VP9 version too; I think PLB was the author and he did several very good ones. But yeah that certainly explains the stop sign at the late 50s. Thanks for even thinking about it though!

 

I never have learned to make one of these but I have a few tables in real life, if I could contribute in some way one of these days. The ones I have already have great VPX versions though. Thanks to the authors! I have Humpty Dumpty, Aloha, Gigi, Sing Along, and Star Trek (1979). Well Aloha has a great Future Pinball version by Popotte, and I don't know how he makes those look so good.
