Thanks batch. In the next build I added a small null-pointer check that can help here. The code of the property pane is really a mess and often cause for crashes.

Thanks, Fuzzel, I was too slow to send my reply, and I didn't see yours

Hi

I've tried out the latest revisioin (3421) with PinupPopper to test out the loading of VPX tables but I'm still seeing the same behaviour I was seeing in the previous revision.

My PinupPopper does *not* pass the -minimized flag to VPX, should it now?

When I load tables, the Loading screen from popper vanishes but the playfield remains black for 3 or 4 seconds (note, black, not desktop) until the table loads.

Sometimes too, when the table does load in, the backglass disappears and reappaers for a second (this *does* reveal the desktop as opposed to a black screen).

Is there anything specific I need to do, or does Popper need an update too?

Fuzzel: here you have another dump:

Crash report VPX rev3421.zip

I was just editing a table, but I'm not sure what triggered the error, switching from backdrop to playfield, or editing some materials. At least in this dump there a several lines about VPX.

Usually VPX use to crash when I close the editor, but then the dump includes only errors from windows dll. I'm using Windows 10 LTSB. Another program also crashes when quitting, Foxit Reader , but not always, just like VPX :)

Just a bit more information if it helps. When I enter to record a table (so not Exclusive Fullscreen) I get slightly different behaviour.

1 - The playfield doesn't go black, the loading screen remains until the table loads in.

2 - However, the windows task bar does become visible and goes over the top of the loading screen at around the same time it goes black before. The task bar then disappears when the table loads in, but flashes again for maybe 250ms

3- The backglass behaves the same, it disappears showing the desktop for around 1 second when the table loads in

One thing I've noticed lately is the crash.dmp and crash.tmp files are ending up in wierd places, like that last location I had used. for example i was editing a table and had imported a material from my resources location, then sometime later it crashed when exiting and it took me quite some time to figure out the crash files where in my materials resource location, not the table location where they used to always be.  don't know when this changed.  or is it a win10 thing?

That is the normal behavior. The dump is always saved in the last folder you used for loading or saving.

That's weird, because I know the next thing I did right after importing the materials was save the table file, so shouldn't it have put it in where the table was saved?

Is there any way to have the emreel and textbox  objects on the backdrop be correctly displayed in solid or outline mode in the editor?right now they are always solid, and it would make it a lot easier to line things up with backdrop DT images if they could be outlines.   Light and decal objects correctly switch.

Thanks.

When I load tables, the Loading screen from popper vanishes but the playfield remains black for 3 or 4 seconds (note, black, not desktop) until the table loads.

This is normal/expected and you'll find the same behavior with PinballX in exclusive mode.    What happens is that we go into exclusive mode (which pops up the black window), then VPX runs its table init which loads B2S and such.  Finally the table actually starts.   We send the signal to Popper that it's ok to switch, but in reality VPX has already switched due to exclusive mode.   You don't see this in non-exclusive mode because having the loading screen obscuring VPX is OK in this mode.

I believe the black screen duration may have increased with the improved static rendering also.    I think it needs to do this after the window has been created.

The fixes referenced were fixing a different problem - The table was appearing briefly, then dumping back to the desktop, then popper was re-focusing on it again.

Fuzzel, thanks so much for all the visual polish lately: rendering at high detail, anti-aliasing refinement, etc. Love it!

There is one more thing missing for rubbers, but i will add this soonish.. Then static geometry/detail polishing will be finished..

rev3427 is up:

- fix to minimize null-pointer access in the property pane reported by jpsalas and batch
- Swap the fix, so mouse hides earlier as it originally did.
- Fix mouse cursor not re-appearing in exclusive mode

This will be in with the next revision.

@all: PLEASE carefully test the physics behavior of rubbers then, if these have noticeably changed.

Also rubbers will now also fully respect the element detail slider, same as ramps and balls.

@DJRobX Cheers, good to know thats expected. Cant say if it longer than before the graphical changes tbh, but its only a few seconds anyway.

I will say though that i never had the Backglass sometimes disaapearing to reveal the desktop and reappearing before this. But i was on an older 10.4 revision and jumped to this point so it could easily have started at an earlier point. My fix is to just change my desktop background to full black so it looks like it loads like the playfield!

Hi guys,

Just a little bug report, rev3427 doesn't seem to work with PinballX (2.6.2) on my cab.

After I start a table the Loading appears and then the screen turns black.

B2s, DMD (the one we can't talk about) and sounds are all working. I run in TrueFullscreen.

I reverted to the previoux vpx and it works again. No big deal and I might be an isolated case, but nothing exotic on my config, everything has always worked fine.

Thanks :-)

Anyone having vpx open but fail to load a table when you double click a table from a folder? Maybe my system is acting strangely but don’t remember it acting like that before. Maybe it’s the option to open table on startup messing it up
