Very cool project. However in response to your lighting effects, if you really want to see a light show, add some RGB leds to your cabinet along with an LEDWIZ and see real flashers going off when you play. Now thats cool! Definately the best thing I've added to my cab to enhance the realism of tables.

I don't know anything about Unity3D but I hope it has the ability to produce some advanced lighting effects. The kind that were used so brilliantly in Slamit's Big Score table. I know it's a system hog but that table is just a work of art. Imagine those lighting effects on F-14 Tomcat!

You have a have a nice video of your cab? I really want to see it!!!

If you just want to see the effect of lights in general here is a good one. http://www.youtube.c...p;v=8JJ4socWtD0

This thread belongs to louizou and his project so I really just want to read news about the project when I watch this thread for updates. Since me and alot more people donated its clear alot of people want this to be done and he already know that. So just press F5 once a week and see how his work going. =)

You guys are going to get spanked. You have strayed off topic, I'm afraid..

There you go again - confrontational remarks yet again. facepalm.gif

Then so be it, but I can't help but noticing that nobody is saying anything about the topic not being ON the topic..as soon as I say something that goes against anyones grain..I have more than my share of people ready and willing to point out the threads origin. I smell something in the air...and I have to say..it smells like...I don't know...BULL****? smile.gif

Just my observations..What is confrontational about pointing out that which has been continuously pointed out to me? Were those people trying to be confrontational? Or merely helpful? Awful lot of judging going on around here, on what one person thinks is the meaning of a post..

MRZ there, was one of the folks kind enough to share his/her thoughts with me about the nature of this thread, and I merely reciprocated the gesture...

I ignored your previous post addressed to me because I know you will always want the last word, so I just left it.

The posters above are merely talking about how lighting could look in a perfect simulation - quite relevent to the thread topic, however you had to use it as an opportunity to remind people your earlier conflict. Why didn't you just leave it?

btw - Children read these forums, so why not try and refrain from using bad language?

No more comments from me on this - it just isn't worth it.

I edited my post, so as not to offend anyone by using that term, but it did seem appropriate to the smell. I can't do anything about the term being quoted in subsequent messages though.
Here we have more of it. Individuals making the arbritary decisions of what is relevant and what is not.
Have it your way. Anything can be discussed in here so long as nobody disagrees with it..then its off topic..I understand now. I should've seen the signs sooner..

I've been learning more about Unity 3D and it has the potential to be huge if it works out. If you have the time you should check out the Unity 3D website and see for yourself just how impressive this engine is.

http://unity3d.com/unity/

And Unity's physics are handled by the NVIDIA® PhysX® next-gen Physics Engine, So there's no doubt any pinball game created in Unity will be totally badass.

Not to mention it has the potential to be less demanding. I would love for it to have a plugin system so that it can easily be extended sort of like what vp has.

JonBaker: Agreed, very impressive looking system. I wish we had something we could play just ONE table on..no matter how buggy or flawed it may be..just to see it, feel it, play it..for ourselves..

Syco: I agree. It would be nice to be able to switch out the physics engine if needed, but I would like to see that same capability on most major resources..ie graphics and sound. One graphics "subsystem" might work better on low end hardware, while others could use a different one that might be a bit more demanding, hardware wise..A "modular" approach has worked on a lot of other projects, I'd love to see it on a beautiful pinball sim. It helps to "future-proof" the project a bit, I think..

I was just referring to things such as ledwiz but more modular means more future proofing. Unfortunately it also means more code complexity...

After receiving a software program license from our donations, one would think after a month and a half there could be two minutes sacrificed to send a quick text saying something along the lines of:

‘Things are going well’, or
‘Things aren’t going well’, or
‘It’s Holiday and I’m in Cannes’, or even
‘Thanks for the software I’m now a millionaire with the new program I wrote with it, don’t call me I’ll call you’.

For as long as we don't retreive any information on the matter that still holds. I, however, don't think that the progress itself is the problem for not keeping us updated, Louizou has been very honest with us in the past. I expect the problem to be some of the reactions in this topic and the off topic discussion that was going on for quite some while. I do hope that this won't affect the project itself though. Let's hope that we'll get an update soon.

This is a good thing as Unity just recently started a beta for version 4.
If we had bought the license earlier, then we would have been stuck with the 3.x.x releases for the code - and version 4.x.x will have many more features available.

http://unity3d.com/unity/4/faq

"Does buying Unity 4.0 entitle me to all 4.x releases?
Yes, you will receive for free the updates in the 4.x release cycle"

So we'd still get the most 'bang for the buck' by waiting until 4.x.x is officially released before handing over money so we get the entire upgrade cycle for the version we license.

I do hope that Louizou is still working on it. Maybe he'll post something.

That is true, and it is a good thing to wait for the newer version, but it also points out why an open source 3D engine would have been a far better choice, maybe not as polished as Unity, but as it sits now...every time Unity releases a new version of the software, if the community wants to keep up to date, we need a new $1500 license so that someone can compile the new versions....wow.

I hope someone takes off on a project like this and keeps everything open source. That license sounds like a great big boat anchor around all our necks...for the life of the software..yuck..

It would be nice to hear something...how his ghostbuster jetpack is coming along..how is pet is doing, something...
