I'm curious. When playing these tables in a Pincab, does it really matter if the tables are produced in 3D (like Future Pinball and possibly Unity) or 2D (like Visual Pinball)? I actually think VP tables look and play much better in a Pincab because the fixed view allows for toys and ramps to be created with high res photos. Whereas FP has to create these same objects in 3D using low poly models. For example: A photo of the Gumball Machine in TZ will always look a lot better than any 3D model could.

I think Pincabers should stick with VP for the best of both worlds - graphics and physics.

I can definitely see your point, but I found it odd that you chose the gumball machine in TZ as your example. In my opinion, the balls inside the gumball machine interacting in 3D space looks far superior to anything that can be done in 2D. Sure there are tons of problems with the physics in FP, and the realism of the tables created in it, but that is exactly why we want to get them running in unity 3d. Then, not only can we use the real ROMs, tie FP the to LEDWiz, have access to all of the game objects properties, we can get games running more realistically, maybe even more realistically than VP.

Just want to get discussions going here nothing else. What about having the ability to hit a key, n maybe, and switch between night and normal (if the table supports that of course). Would something along these lines be possible? Friend was asking me. I think it could be kinda cool. What does everyone else think?

You could create this in Future Pinball as it is with some creative thinking. Although, with the Unity 3D version, the textures could probably just be swapped on the fly, which would be much easier and less resource intensive.

Pinball Arcade is doing something like this now with its "post processing" feature on ipad3. It basically adds advanced lighting, which basically means it turns tables into "night mode" appearance. However, this feature isn't very optmimized yet & it makes gameplay a little bit choppy.
I do think this would be a nice feature, but its gotta be pretty far down on the priority list. This is one of those things you try to add once everything else is in place & bug free.

Indeed. Just would be a really nice thing to have. I would gladly add a button to the bottom of my cab to switch into night mode.

I don't know anything about Unity3D but I hope it has the ability to produce some advanced lighting effects. The kind that were used so brilliantly in Slamit's Big Score table. I know it's a system hog but that table is just a work of art. Imagine those lighting effects on F-14 Tomcat!

Very cool project. However in response to your lighting effects, if you really want to see a light show, add some RGB leds to your cabinet along with an LEDWIZ and see real flashers going off when you play. Now thats cool! Definately the best thing I've added to my cab to enhance the realism of tables.

Then so be it, but I can't help but noticing that nobody is saying anything about the topic not being ON the topic..as soon as I say something that goes against anyones grain..I have more than my share of people ready and willing to point out the threads origin. I smell something in the air...and I have to say..it smells like...I don't know...BULLS**T? smile.gif

Just my observations..What is confrontational about pointing out that which has been continuously pointed out to me? Were those people trying to be confrontational? Or merely helpful? Awful lot of judging going on around here, on what one person thinks is the meaning of a post..

MRZ there, was one of the folks kind enough to share his/her thoughts with me about the nature of this thread, and I merely reciprocated the gesture...
