M.U.S.H.A. for Genesis was a good one too.

Here's a sleeper: "Sweet Home" for the NES. It's a survival-horror-RPG-type-game that has only been released in Japan. It never made it stateside because it was too graphic, violent etc. It was like the guys that rate games for US releases looked at it and basically said: "Fuck this, this will never come over here."
It has been translated by fans and is most definitely worth a look for anybody looking for those hidden gems of the NES library.
Here's a Let's Play by DeceasedCrab - Part 1, that is -, which first introduced me to the game:
And here's a review of the game by the Happy Video Game Nerd:
If you watch the double-digit parts of DC's LP, you'll find some spoilers of the story, which you might want to avoid. The review is spoiler-free, since Derek believes that games like this should be experienced, not watched in a video.

Death Rally (don't know what system). A Friend of mine told me about this old game and that someone had remade it to work on current versions of Windows. Reminds me of Gran Turismo as far as the type of game. Here's the link: Death Rally

Actually, it reminds me of that one game on the SNES with the killer Ice Cream Truck, Vigilante 8. There were two versions of it, Vigilante 8 and Vigilante 8 II.

I enjoyed Minior 2049er as well, and I played Blackthorne through too. That's a list of mostly highly rated games though. I played a lot of Flashback, but never saw the end.
There was a game on the Amiga called Wings, a WW1 bi-plane pilot career game. It was under-rated, because it was a spectacular game, but it was so hard that it seemed unbeatable at first. The physics was not real, but they were not enhanced, more simulation than arcade.
The C64 had a lot of great games. 10th frame bowling, Hardball, on-court tennis, beachhead, Omega Race, Raid on Bungling bay, pogo joe, jumpman, was all good. There was many more. The 64 games I did not complete, I would call over-rated, or fairly rated.

I had the C64 and 128 both. Actually had Mr. Do! for them, used to turn it over on a regular basis.

I've got M.U.S.H.A. for my Gens+ emu. Nowdays trying to find the actual games like M.U.S.H.A. and R-Type III: The Third Lightning is like trying to find a needle in the proverbial haystack.

Yeah emulation is the only way for me to play MUSHA too.
Hey did you know they re-released R-Type 3 for Gameboy Advance? Might be easier to find a copy of that....but I do see Rtype3 for super nintendo at the local stores, or maybe I'm getting confused with Gradius 3

Gradius III is a lot easier to find than R-Type III. I even have the Sega Master System version of the first R-Type in emulation. Gradius III rocks on SNES!

I'm more of a vert shmup player then a hori, but I agree Gradius III is pretty good on the SNES and WAAAY easier then in the arcade. Other then Pinball, shmups are my main genre

Shmups are cool, but I'm more into fighters lately. SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos is the one I'm playing right now.

What am I thinking...I am also a 2D fighter fan. I have SVC Chaos on my dreamcast, its a pretty cool game but bland and broken for serious competitive'ness. All the capcom characters over power the SNK characters...and wow almost everyone is a freaking Shoto?? (aka a Ryu clone), many glitches and infinites etc. Even though they got lazy with the backgrounds (wheres the animation?) I still like the game.
Do you play any SNK or Capcom fighting games p2p through 2dfighter.net, ggpo, or kaillera p2p? If so it would be cool to play some games together

No, I'm not that priviledged, I have to stick to MAME for right now. I've beaten the game with both SNK and Capcom charactors. On the PS and Dreamcast, Capcom made their charactors stronger on purpose. SNK doesn't exist any more and Capcom now owns the rights to SNK's copyrights and name.

I like Shootumups too. My favorites are usually not linear hor. or vert. though. I like the 360 ones. I am making one of my favorites, Tac-Scan into a 360 game.
My most favorite is Sinistar, but it is far and away the hardest game I have ever played. It's even harder in MAME with 8 way control instead of 49.
My remake of Sinistar slows it down and though it has 8 way point and thrust analog control, it also has rotate and thrust digital control. If you are good at rotate and thrust, it will be easier, if not the 8 way might be.
Either way it is going to be much more relaxed and playable.
I rotated the screen and have the panel on the side, and much more play area. The actual play area size is 7000x7000. I might increase the screen to as much as 12,000x12000 though.
I have much of the game play working, in fact most of it, but everything needs more work.

And here is a game that will be under-rated I'm sure. If you have a dual analog controller, you can play this one. It's time to see if it works well on other systems and other displays/resolutions.
It has elements of both Lunar Lander and Gravitar. The surface plays like Lunar Lander, though you can tractor fuel. You will leave a flag on each pad you land on, and in the end a platform will open, letting you go inside where you will play more like Gravitar. That is not working yet. You can go inside, but it is just scribbled and there is not much to do. One fuel pod and one turret poorly placed.
Make sure your pad is in dual analog mode. rotate with one stick and thrust with the other.
It has 360 degree rotation at 1 degree increments and 100 thrust levels, though a stick is too fast to hit each one, it is very smooth, and it should have no problem holding at 60 frames per second.
Press down on the rotation stick for tractor.
It will have keyboard support as well but lateral movement is not working and the thrust is way too strong.
