Yes it was gone, as were a lot of others as well.
I had to re-upload a bunch of stuff, a lot of us had to re-upload things.

And i had to make at least one table a multi part download.

It wasn't stressful.

Fine, no big deal.
I can change it when Noah gets the site fixed up and deals with the more important issues, like people attacking it and corrupting the uploads or whatever is going on.

Or maybe i will just leave it, people can figure out a multi part file, been doing it for 40 something years.

What a silly suggestion, you actually think I would go through all that effort knowing some guy just downloads one part and reports the table broken.
And with the update that also needs to be uploaded this will become messy from day 1.

Also that would mess up the download numbers and I am a mathmatician.

So what you are suggesting will never happen for any of these reasons.

This limit is a joke for 2023 standards and should be removed or raised so most tables with a VR-Hybrid option can be uploaded here.

But no status updates, nothing.

Can I say out loud that I feel left outside in the cold too long now?

This mess is taking way too long. I did my part and reached out to JP to show my respect and maybe I should accept that I did everything possible to get his wish forfilled.

But now I am getting to a point where I want to give up because I am getting stressed out over something I can't control.

How about sombebody reaching out to offer help with a real solution, possibly add an external link as the main download.

Or manually uploading the table on the server like VPU did in the past for Knorr.

The table deserves more then being a hidden piece inside the forum with 2 links taking up my own cloud storage, just to be forgotten because it doesn't have a decent entry point on this domain

Have you considered hitting the admin up with a PM? That's how you get what you're after.

As for the limit being 'a joke', we've had several issues with attacks on the site. The most effective method to protect the site is to use a proxy, which, unfortunately limits the max upload size. Quite the conundrum.

There are workarounds, you just have to contact the right people, instead of pissing and moaning about it on the forum.

Thank you.

I could have sworn I did send a message, but now looking back I cannot find it, so I can imagine how my reaction feels when you read it.
For that I am sorry for being ignorant not to check that before I started a rant.
I will send you a message now (again)

Downloads restored ... again.

One of the backup methods failed due to a typo in the licensing IP [we're human] but thankfully we plan for this sort of thing and had another set of backups that were not quite as frequent.  We have fixed the issue with the primary backups and have also set up another secondary set of backups that run every 15 minutes.  Moving forward until this is resolved we should be able to roll back no further than 15 minutes when it comes to Uploads.

As always we apologize for any problems this may cause you - we're actively working to identify the cause of the problem so that we can prevent it.

We're also working on updating the software that runs the site which should close this hole as well - but this is a massive undertaking that will take a lot of work and effort as well as time to complete.  We could shove that through now and lose most of the functionality you love about our site and we don't feel that is ideal - so we are doing what we can to get this done as quickly as possible.

I'm unable to upload a 307 MB table even though it says the limit is 488 MB. Is this still a problem? How am I supposed to upload my table that I intentionally kept below the limit of 488? I can't get it any smaller than 307.

I can only split it with WinRar to make 4 rar files, which I can't extract on any old computer. That computer also have to have WinRar, which is exactly the sort of thing I was trying to avoid when making this table. I wanted a one-file, catch-all, download and play simple thing that I could direct anyone to from anywhere on the internet. Now people have to know how to find and install and use WinRar and extract a file with three extensions. Absolute nightmare. I can split the file into Zips instead of rar but then of course the vpforums website doesn't accept those z01 extension files as uploadable options, so only the rar works, unless anyone has any other suggestions. This is exactly the situation I was trying to avoid when uploading this table -- it being a complicated mess. Why can't they just re-instate the 488 mb limit? Is that a problem?

Just rename the files part-01.zip
part-02.zip
part-03.zip etc

they will still unzip for the person

it will just ask them, show me part 2 etc

Try using 7zip to split the file.

https://www.7-zip.org/

Or HJ-Split.

https://hjsplit.en.softonic.com/

Both are free, as opposed to WinRAR which is not free.

It looks like the 100MB file size is permanent.  Why not allow 7-Zip files to be uploaded.  The Zip format is old and produces large file sizes.  The *.7z format can produce file sizes that are than less than 1/2 the file size of the best files size that Zip can produce.  If the file size is limited to 100MB, why not use the *.7z format and more than double the content of a Zip?

I am guessing the forum software itself doesnt know 7Z

I guess I can use the 7z format and then create a zip from that.

Or I have posted a table where I created a split zip file and then created another zip of the 3 split files.  It is inconvenient for the end user but no one complained when I posted it.
