Download the ROM from Stern site,  zip it, and call it ij4_210.zip.

 

REMARK : the ROM is already provided as a ZIP file @ Stern's. Players only have to rename the ZIP itself and the file within it.

QUESTION :
I'd prefer to keep the ij4_210 french version, rather than overwriting it with another renamed zip engish version.

Should I rename 

Const cGameName = "ij4_210"

within the VPX script  so that some tables could keep running with the english version of the ROM ?
 

EDIT: the french version causes a CRC error with your tables v4 and v5, as well as with Hannibal's 4k version and Bigus MOD version

You can always update vpinmame and see if the CRC is fixed, or you can always ignore the CRC errors by running the table and pressing F1 and select there ignore CRC errors.

The english version of the ROM caused a CRC error.
I fixed it by deleting "DRIVE:\VPinMAME v3.6-369 x64\nvram\ij4_210.nv"

 

This table is enjoyable, even with low skills like mine, with lots of things to do.

I didn't get how to start the 8ball thing (which shown up a couple of times in 4 games)

I've got the rom file from stern's website, renamed and placed in my folder. I am at something of a loss as to where to go next

try to rename the bin file, inside the zip file, too, IND_V2-1_A.BIN to ij4_210.bin, and the zip file should be called ij4_210.zip

If you get that error
do you have vpinmame on the pc and do you have it installed?
 

Do other roms work?
As that sounds more like a vpm not present error than a ROM missing error

That's a rom error. I should delete the nvram file, that will reset the rom settings. This is the file ij4_210.nv in ypur vpinmame\nvram folder.
