Hello guys, I'm still new to pinball build cabinet and I learn a lot.  You need to educate me on something.  I refer to this

"I did some tests with these solenoids inside my arcade cabinet, and to me they sound very good. I'm no expert when it comes to how pinball machines sound, but for the price they are hard to beat  :) Im going to be using them in my cab. Damn i thought 7 solenoids was enough, 2 for flippers, 2 for slingshots and 3 for bumpers and what are the remaining 3 used for?"

I look some youtube video and see what you call solenoids, which is a kind of toy which make sound...OK....hahahaha!

Now, my question...

Is it necessary, since in VP ou FP when hit flipper or somethings, the speaker make the sound of flippers.  Why physical sound ???  Is it freak thing or really necessary ?

Thanks

Not only by the sound, you can "physically feel them"

oh and is not a "toy" is a solenoid, you find them in almost any machine, even in your car!!

:)

edit: worst typo ever!!

OK, it's what I suspect.  So, you fell the sound which add to realist...  make sense. So cool!  By toy I mean gadget.  Maybe the word was not so good.  My primary language is french.

By the way, I buy my 5/8 plywood and the 2 monitors so far.  15" and 26".  I shop for a 42" playfield and decent computer..i5 probably.

Haha....well, all of these things are toys, but awesome toys! :)
So true, you just dont get the sound, bot also a the feeling of a mechanical thing happend in the cabinet. It is not really necessary, but gives you that little extra...of the real thing.

Patrickfx...your choice of displays sounds awesome for a standard body build! :)
Look forward to see your progress! :)

Good start Zany ;)

For my part I'm at the stage to figure out all I need to build the cab.  I'm nearly at the same stage then you exception of the plywood but this wont be a problem when I will be ready I will cut all pieces for a widebody need. So far I bought a SAMSUNG 46 UN46F6800 and after decasing I got 590 mm and the edge is super slim ... I also had to move the control board somewhere else...

I will look in my area for leg and button if there is an option otherwise the net will be my only option. The part that I'm really afraid is all about solenoid and extra stuff needed to reproduce the pinball feeling I'm not and expert at all and I seriously don't know witch board is needed to control all those pieces.   when I read about diode, solenoid, etc etc dammit I feel like I need to return back to school  hehehe.

But I do admit the pinball take many hours of my time in a week and it's more then a toy to me. It's some time a kind of time machine that take me back to good old time. :clnglasses:

That was the only one locally available when I was looking at it and nearly the same price as other model of Samsung. So if the 3D is for any good reason something more in the future then it will be available

(Tu vient de quel région? car j'ai impression vu la fin de ton message que tu parle Français hehe ) ... Ouin!!! Après lecture de tous les autre messages précèdent c bien évident. LOL

I'll try to update this thread as often as i can....with the build itself, electronics and newly bought. Next to order is the Virtuapin plunger.

I totally agree....it is more then a toy...as you say Gigalula....it's like a timemachine, and i can get SO nostalgic playing som games...both pinballs and arcade.

So one of the tree cabs in this thread is going to be mine. As you know we have a lot of parts already. I've already got the computer that's gonna power my cabinet.

The specs are as follows:

Asrock P55 Extreme motherboard

Intel i5-760 2,8 GHz CPU cooled by Noctua NH-U12

4GB DDR3 1600 MHz memory

Vertex 2 128GB SSD Hard-drive

Nvidia GTX 660 graphics card

Zany posted a pic with Safecracker loaded on three screens. That's running on the above rig without any problems.

All three screens are connected to the GTX660 gfx card (It has 2 DVI, 1 HDMI and 1 Display Port).

Main 46" screen running 1920x1280 resolution via HDMI.

The 32" back-glass screen is running 1360x768 via VGA cable (as there is no way to run 1:1 pixel mapping over HDMI to a "HD Ready" 1366x768 screen) and the 17" DMD screen is running 1280x1024 via DVI.
