So on the main page another area for "new" uploads as in new media or even a complete table that everyone would already know about because of the wip posts that happen. Then another area or listing for "updates" to existing works. This would require the person uploading to select a option of "new" "updates" or even "mods" they could all have a nice little front page section. I would like to see at the end of a list on the main page a "click here for more new listings" as being gone for 2 days I seem to miss a lot lately... Just my thoughts late at night ;-) Sent from my GSIII using Tapatalk

I wouldn't expect collections of tables, but images and things, would be less size than most tables. There's a lot of tables I've downloaded from here that I just don't play (don't hurt me)
But I see the issues. So no to collections, but what about allowing tags for uploads, so if someone has a collection they're uploading, you can find that stuff easily. You can sort by user right now but maybe I just want someones wheel images, is that feasible? Or possibly, there's not enough demand to make the effort worth it, I haven't seen issues with it before. Just some ideas.

I wouldn't be opposed to wheel sets, for example, but as I mentioned before, it would only work of they were also shared individually for free members and those who need just a few of them. It kinda adds to the effort required to maintain.

A tag system is already in place. It's up to the author to tag files, though.

There is separate new upload/last updated lists, but the problem is, most new uploads are edited for punctuation, or whatever, putting them on both lists when released.

Wow, this looks a little like tap dancing in a mine field but,  First, speaking as someone who has at least been able to contribute some videos, I don't think videos, wheels, media packs, or backglasses need forum posts.  As long as they show up as new downloads when posted and show up in searches for their particular table that should be fine.  Second there has got to be some kind of quality control.  You can have several different types of wheel logos, but do you need 4 different B2S backglasses or 6 different backglass videos?

Maybe have a committee of several people to help filter out the older content as newer, better items come along rather than throwing a single person under the bus?  I would volunteer for that.

I know it's hard, at times I have taken screen shots of tables and backglasses and did a blink comparison of them to determine what had changed and which one I wanted to keep.

Also, you have things like Fulltilt's awesome Table vids with audio.  When I used Hperpin, I used these all the time, but when I had to switch to PinballX , I found it worked better with the video and audio separate.

You need several table files, some older ones for the people with slower machines (In both FS and Desktop)  UVP and B2S backglasses Multimedia packs for the various tables versions. Video's of the various table/backglass versions (In both regular and audio). The list keeps getting longer and  their will have to be some thinning of the heard or people will become frustrated trying to find fine anything in the see of very similar items available for each table.

I can't recommend filtering out content for reasons I mentioned previously - you start filtering out the work people do, and less people upload work, the less that is uploaded, the less variety. I just don't think it's fair. We just need to encourage the use of tags. I see a use for multiple b2s for the same table. Some b2s creators get a little more fancy with them, others stick to a standard backglass, etc. Variety is nice and I think we need to encourage creativity, rather than stifle it.

Another option to reduce duplicates, is at the upload screen, when you select tags for your work it should show you similar uploads and ask that you check to ensure you're not uploading a duplicate. Or, if you are, indicate why, ie. better quality.

Another is just include all media files for a table in the same list, with multiple authors. When you go to the download page it shows you what is available. So you could click the table name and see associated files, or go to the table itself and see associated files. Instead of seeing 3 pages of "Funhouse" you'd just be able to go to the Funhouse hub and navigate from there.

Ultimately though, we're limited by the forum software, and judging by other sites using IP Board, it seems like WYSIWYG.

Make a separate downloads list for media packs, videos, wheel art files and no forums threads created for those. If you still want forum threads make a seperate window pane for those threads so it doesn't bump the main vp threads pane. This will prevent tables and important threads from getting buried from the main menu.

Guys, there are no forum posts for wheels, media packs, and videos. dB2S Backglasses, on the other hand, I felt it necessary for support.

I agree with bent98 about making a separate downloads list for media packs, videos, wheel art files and think that’s a relatively simple and quick solution, that doesn't involve any quality control elements / discussions.  That would be, to separate into new window pains, the non-table related "uploads" and "updates" items that currently all share one. Other forum post aspects may / should still be considered as important / popular items may still get pushed off the recent "Visual Pinball Discussion" section depending how someone posted their upload / update.  But resulting forum posts from upload marathons seems to happen less frequently and not in a one-to-one fashion that is guaranteed to happen in the “uploads” and “updates” list - the main thing will be that the table itself won't get shoved out of view from an onslaught of media uploads in this key area.

I feel this is important and personally have even delayed releasing / completing some tables into this recent surge is finished as I really don't want a table / MOD that I spent in the order of 200-300 hours of time on to be pushed off the list in a matter of days or even hours from something that took somebody considerably less time to create and share. Beyond my own releases, I feel the same whether it's my table / MOD or someone else’s from simply knowing the amount of time that goes into a table release and think it's disproportionate to the air time and chance that that release gets to garner some views and visibility that instead should be more commensurate with the time the author(s) / contributor(s) have put in and provided back to the community.  This problem has seemingly become worse more recently and as fearfully anticipated / predicted, the Airborne table that Bodydump spent over two years creating - one I helped out at the end on - was released and then practically erased from all visibility and awareness in a matter of days.  That just doesn’t seem right to me that such an investment in time is so quickly forgotten (probably more to this than just this specific topic though).

So, could we please just have some duplicate "uploads" and "updates" pains on the home page and parse them for media vs. tables? Seems like the most bang for the buck solution and the quality / control conversation can be a separate one (al beit I think a little less important one if this issue - that started this thread - can be addressed in this simple way).

+1 for the separate upload lists for tables vs. other media. Just have "New Tables", "Latest Table updates" and "Latest media uploads" (or something similar) sections on the front page.

That would make a huge difference and would keep new tables visible for much longer than currently. I have missed many updates in the past because it's not been on the front page. And yes... I know you can sort by date in the table section but having those in the front page would help a lot.

Hmm, Visual Pinball Tables ---> All ---> Most Recent

TADA!!! With just three Clicks to the newest Tables ;)

Just kidding. A extra section for media stuff would be cool.

I gotta say (from my own point of view) that I'm surprised at some of the comments. I will certainly sound like an asshole for saying this but here goes. Sure we appreciate people putting hours/years into table updates but I'm sorry to have to say what makes one think they have a better right to have their stuff displayed over others? This is a somewhat 'free' and public forum for all to use. I would hope everyone is viewed and treated equally when they have something 'legit' to present. Ever hear the term one man's garbage is another's treasure? What may seem like sub-par quality to some might be gold to others. I'm all for separating the posts but please don't start belittling people's efforts because they aren't what one might conceive them to be up to one's own level. In my own case I could care less if people like my own posts or not. They are done as a free service to those who want it. Those that don't can choose not to download them. Simple as that. As for the wheel images and backglasses posted recently by others I commend them for at least making an effort to help the community.

Oh and I do also appreciate all the table updates (regardless how long they did or didn't take).

My rant over. Feel free to attack :)

Yes, I do that as well... People would like to have it filtered on the landing page in a separate category.
