I think I am pretty good. The easiest of the newer games at my local arcade is "The Sopranos" (when the safe is working properly or not since the replay score adjusts for this) for racking up free games. I once had the high score on that. Also "Spiderman" gives me a long playtime. This brings up a question. Does good mean racking up replays or the amount of time spent per game?

I am High to Mediocre, constant, and get close to no practice. I might want to go to some pinball place here in Florida sometime.

Well i would dare to say that i am a High skilled Pinball player. Or at least I was!! I'm 49 years old now and i played almost every table i could find. In the early years i got kicked out of our local arcade because you had to be 16 to enter. And when i finally was 16 they still kicked me out just as a habit!! I have seen great tables shipped in at our arcade like Harlem Globetrotters with foto-gimmick and stuff like that. Played every table they got at least twice, because once will not give you the feeling that goes with it. Once there was a tournament where you could get an arcade shirt and a title that went with it, guess who got it!!?

My current skills on real tables are getting worse though. Age and very few practice hours do that to a man. Nowadays I really don't know of any real tabls anywhere near my residence.

I'm better then my crappy machine that's for sure. I play a lot of The Williams Collection on my PS3 and Zen Pinball, the best tables that work great for me on here are early model solid state games, and old em rated games. That's cool though because I love it all new or old, I'm thinking of adding a bit more ram to our computer then I'm sure a lot of the newer games will run so much better. The play I get now is a bit choppy and sometimes it pisses me off because I can't really go for good high scores, I've learned a lot in my short time here though and have made some good adjustments for better play.

Just realized you were talking about real pinball, tough to say cause I haven't played a real pin in years. Live pretty close to Niagara Falls here in Canada so I should take a trip out there and see if there are some real tables to rock. Used to be real good at Space Shuttle at a local doughnut shop I used to go to when I was a kid, it would be so much fun to try one now.

How good am I?

Been playing since I was 9. I'm almost 45 and I am NOT OLD dammit, so neither are YOU, obi!

I'm pretty decent, though some days are better than others.

I have a Wizard, a Firepower and a Black Knight ("My name is Elmer J Fudd. I own a mansion and a yacht.") smile.gif. I just re-rubbered and waxed all three, and in the case of Wizard, replaced the posts, the bumper bodies and six of the standing targets.

The games now hand me my ass on a regular basis.

When I'm at the top of my mind on a good day/evening, I can make a score threshold, maybe two, and likely one special on each game I play.

...and when it comes to EMs, I can fix them up pretty nicely!

Ever heard of the NFV (Nederlandse Flipper Vereniging)?
There are a lot of machines all over the country.
Just ask me if you want to know.

So, I finally cracked the 500 mil on the local TAF and knocked off that "VSE" guy - a rival I only know by his initials.

I seem to be getting better with practice.

We have a local TAF as well. I will have to see how my score compares with that.

First time I played TotAN in 15 years, I got 72Mil and took first place. I didn't think I had done all that well until someone else said "Wow, that's pretty good."

On Flipperless and early EMs, my skill level is fairly high, since I get loads of practice working on my stuff. On more recent SS EMs and newer VPM table, my skill level is a lot lower, but improved over 4 years ago, because while my flipper skills are much less than my nudging skills, I tend to be more focused.

I used to kick ass.

Played since i was 5 and flogged nearly everyone at 12. Played everyday, beg borrow steal, whatever it took.

People storm out after waiting an hr for there first ball and you roll it 5 times.

Dont play as much, or see as good, or think as clear these days, but have a shed full and go toe 2 toe

on a semi regular basis. think.gif coffee1.gif

I know my skills are crap. smile.gif It's wierd because we had an Indiana Jones at the arcade years ago and I could
get real super high scores on it. I have one at home now and it's a rare day that I ever break 500 Million points.

Having the darn ball bounce out of the mode start probably contributes to the grief. And low scores. smile.gif

this thread is kinda old but whatever :/
How good am I? When I'm able to concentrate with no pressure, damn good!
When I have to go somewhere soon and I'm only on ball 2...well, thats another story tongue.gif
I'm 16 now, but I regularly whip people pretty easily I think, but only if they challenge me wink.gif
I had the grand high score on Theatre of Magic with a sticky right flipper when I was only about 13, before they moved it out of a pizza joint near me sad.gif
I was also pretty good at Roadshow, Super Payday is pretty easy to get to now!
Stern games are just too easy and simple for me, so I tend to avoid them with a few exceptions (Elvis, Pirates, Simpsons)
60's-70's EM games I either have a pretty good game with, or I struggle. Mainly because most of them had killer outlanes.
VP is too easy though, high scores all day! biggrin.gif
Of course, we all have our bad games...
I regularly practice at the Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda on Saturdays, if you care to join me smile.gif
PS: dont even bother trying to play me at a shuffle alley or bowler, by the time you press start the game is over wink.gif (I love those things!)

i guess it's hard to put a real category to my "skill level" because i've only ever played in one tournament against avid players but i'd say i'm better than average. i've been playing pinball since i was a kid. when all my friends were playing street fighter and mortal combat, i was in the corner making STTNG "CLACK" tup.gif

when i was around 15 or 16 the local pinball shop and the classic radio station held a "tommy of toledo" contest. they hard "regionals" all over the city and one of these events was right outside the pizza place where i worked. it cost 15 bucks to enter, but the big prize was your very own "fire" table. during the "regionals" everyone there was much older than me, i felt real intimidated, and 3 or the 5 machines were old school and i had never even seen them before...

but i destroyed everyone on getaway high speed, and i had the top score on two other machines (f-14 and roller games) out of around 50 people...that got me into the finals.

so the finals came up, and having never played "fire" i think i did fairly well. i got screwed on my first ball (drained right down the center on a bad bounce right off the launch) but had a killer ball 2 and 3. i barely lost to the guy who won the whole thing, and his competition in the finals had a horrible game. i probably would be the owner of "fire" right now had i gotten a better bounce on ball one mad.gif

anyway i've always been better than anyone of my friends that i've played at pinball, every bar i went to (before i stopped going to bars) had "JMC" dominating the high scores... but i've never been truly tested by people who also know how to play. it's like an avid car racer being in a car race against people who just drive to work everyday.

a lot of people play pinball, but most people don't love it like i seem to.

most people pop some quarters in, and waste some time, i'm the guy who reads everything on a playfield and rules sheet on a new game before he puts any money in.

most people don't know there are accomplishments in pinball games, they think they've beaten the game if they get a jackpot during a multiball rofl.gif

anyway i'd love to get into a tournament to test my skill against real players, but there just never seems to be any in the area that i'm aware of. i know i'm not the best player out there, but i'm the best player my friends know, and that makes me happy.

hmmm. i've entered 4 tourneys, 2 large (vegas pinball hof). i'd say i'm above avarage. i've only been playing for 7 years (i'm 33) but have learned from some of the countries finest pin pin gamers. i think that the best way to measure a persons 'talent' at cabinet pinball would be consistancy with multi balls and jackpots. anybody can play 1, 2, or 3 machines VERY WELL. it takes skill to give any pinball machine a good run.

i'm very proud of my LORD OF THE RINGS 'destroy the ring' mode.
i destoryed the ring in 42 seconds. just as an example of my under pressure combo skilled ramp shots . haha
any one else play LOTR?

anybody that can get monsters of rock on Monster Bash has some talent. i've only achieved this once.

basically, if you're at an arcade/bar and you can play a machine(s) for hours with only 5 bucks, i'd say you have game.
