Any ideas why GIFs may play too fast? Almost twice as fast

I have turned on and off looping, changed framerate, etc, doesn't make sense

I think JP ran into this issue if the PF monitor runs at 120 hz instead of a 60 hz scan rate

Default vs. custom position:

I obviously screwewd up my default position by installing Diabolo and Stranger Things.

Champions Leaguge runs perfect (IIRC I sometimes modified the script) but for all others the DMD now is on display 1.

I know, that the default position is defined in the registry and table scripts can change this, but is there any option to define the position only per table without editing the table script? Some ini file within the .UltraDMD folder of a table without affecting the reg?

If that's not the case I'd like to suggest this.

Or anybody has more info about this and share with me, I'd appreciate it a lot.

I wish every table that uses Ultradmd had the option to position and size the dmd at least in the table script.... I would be fine with that....

Is anyone currently working on UltraDMD? I am still getting issues with UltraDMD on certain tables. I either get really odd/ jittery ball motion (i.e. not smooth) even thought I am getting over 220fps or I get issues with frame rates jumping when using variable sync. This is really spoiling some tables using UltraDMD.

Damn. I'm sorry Andy. I used to have this problem. I just can't remember what I did to resolve it.

I would just like to share my experiences trying to create an original table that uses UltraDMD.

  • The font cannot be changed in any way, neither can its size. The text will always be one line of medium text over one line of large text.
  • The font lacks many punctuation characters, such as commas, which means you can't display large number in the proper "100,000,000" way.
  • Quick! How many million is 10000000?
  • UltraDMD crashes when the score is more than 2,147,483,647.
  • The DisplayScoreboard00 function, which is supposed to show a formatted score, throws an error saying that the "image" parameter, which the function does not take, cannot be null.
  • There is a black flicker between scenes.
  • If you're trying to show a timer counting down, this is a problem, as the display will flicker each second.
  • The default scene cannot be updated.
  • This means if you want to change the displayed text without flickering, you need to use a named scene with DisplayScene00ExWithId.
  • Which means that your text will have an outline, whether you like it or not, which further limits how much text can be displayed.
  • When updating a scene, the alignment of the text breaks if the new text is longer or shorter than the new text.
  • So when you timer goes from 10 to 9, you either need to have the text alignment break or create a new scene, which causes flickering.
  • Being limited to two lines of text, one 15 characters, and one 13 characters, is incredibly constricting.
  • Why can't I have four lines of text and have them NOT scroll?

I haven't been here in quite a while.  My last post was June 2016.  Yikes!  I am glad there are so many original tables using UltraDMD.

Thank you Thalamus, CaptFlam, and everyone else for answering questions.  And thank you table authors.

>>The font cannot be changed in any way, neither can its size
>>The font lacks many punctuation characters, such as commas
>>Being limited to two lines of text, one 15 characters, and one 13 characters, is incredibly constricting.
>>Why can't I have four lines of text and have them NOT scroll?

I started working on a variable width font system.  I posted a thread on it.  It even included a font creator.  I just didn't hear interest in it.  So I only included it in the scoreboard scene.

Some of the rest falls under the category of, "I wanted to make it VERY easy for original authors to include a DMD".  More capabilities usually means more effort by the developer.  Originally I thought UltraDMD was going to be a thin ActiveX wrapper around XDMD.  But that lower level programming requires a significant investment by the table author; and I wasn't even sure if this was something people wanted.

Never mind. Apparently GIF works better than actual video formats. Thank you.

My original post should be on page twenty.

anyone have any idea why my pindmd3 is only in red for ultradmd games??

i have the little added script in amh to show green, and in the virtual dmd it shows in green. but the pindmd only shows red.

then for kiss it says orange/red, and it shows that in the virtual dmd too. but i cannot get the pindmd3 to actually change color. only will show red.

Sure. Look in the table script. Amh has a

DMDColorSelect = "Green"

Like a car. If you want to know why something isn't working - look under the hud is a good idea :)
