I just searched the backup of my old VPX-7.2 install again, and I still couldn't find a VPinballX.ini file to restore.

Since I also don't have one on the C-Drive of my current (migrated) VPX-7.2 install on new Windows-11 machine ... I'm thinking this file is only created when the newer VPX-8.x is involved?

Yeah sorry, you're correct. I worded that badly, that file is 10.8 so would be relevant if you were moving a 10.8 install to a new pc (but maybe you'd want to start over with a new config on an upgraded pc anyway)

No problem. I just felt you wouldn't have mentioned it if not important. I needed to know about it so I can eventually start backing-it-up and keeping track of it. I really like GTXJoe's "Pinball Backup" batch-file and hope to implement it soon. I think sometimes a full Macrium-Reflect Image is needed, but sometimes a quick straight-file backup of the config files is sufficient.

As for the PinMame config of each Table ( F1-options, rendered DMD screen coordinates, etc.) it's not that it's that hard to do ... but it's just another thing that needs attention. Plus, some of yall have 100's of Tables (not just 40). If each has already been figured-out (and play-tested) I say we should capture that work if possible with automation ... in this case with the Exporting of the appropriate Registry-Keys. Add the relevant *.ini files to that and you have a nice little backup package (and it's even fairly portable).

I really appreciate all that helped me here. The archived version of my notes on how to do this is basically what you see above (just with some better organization). I like the idea of doing it in stages, building up the layers, and testing along the way. I like to include other things because it won't work properly without required Windows settings, and I can't imagine me and my friends & family actually using and playing my cabinet without a nice Front-End.
