I found a kit on Newark a few weeks back that includes a KL25Z. The boot loader had to be updated, but so far it looks like it is working as expected. Since I ordered mine it has gone up a few dollars in price, but still on the low side. Not sure if that would be an option for you.

https://www.newark.c...ping-NA-Product

I went ahead and ordered one for my build. I assume by updating the bootloader you flashed it with the pinscape software? First build here sorry for the dumb question

That's right, have you visited MJR's pinscape site: http://mjrnet.org/pi...hp?sid=software

(You'd think I owned stock in Pinscape or something as much as I trumpet it's usefulness and MJ's brilliance)

Too many times haha. I'm making a mini front end and have already wired up the the buttons on my first run, just missing the plunger. I'm already using an ipac-2 and pacled64. That guide is a godsend.

If you order one of the above sensor kits you NEED A WIN 7 pc or some other tricks as described by mjr.
Updating the bootoloader (not Pinscape firmware) does not work on a 8/10 systems unless you dive really deep into modifying your OS internals.

Thanks for the heads up. I dual boot W10 and W7 so i should be alright there. Do you happen to have a good link to updating the bootloader? I'll look around on my own in the meantime.

More recent versions of the KL25Z have a newer version of the boot loader that does work properly with Windows 8 and 10, so if you bought your KL25Z any time after 2018 or so, you probably won't have to worry about this. But just in case you happen to have found a vendor selling dusty old stock from the back of the warehouse, I wanted to mention this.

(From the guide updated) So hopefully this won't be the issue with the one i ordered.

When I read the title I thought "with your hands" although "with you hips will work too" unless you break any of them, then it will be expensive :D never mind, just continue :D

Hi, guys!

What do you think of using the KL28z board instead of Kl25z? Wouldn´t

this work for nudging and Plunger just as well?

Feautures:

  • Capacitive touch slider
  • 3-axis accelerometer
  • 3-axis magnetometer
  • 3-axis gyroscope

Check it out here: https://www.nxp.com/...mcus:FRDM-KL28Z

Ask MJR if Pinscape can support this board... Otherwise no chance

It looks like it has the right physical capabilities.  It's just a matter of writing software for it.  Unfortunately, I don't think the Pinscape software will run directly, since it's very tied to the specifics of the KL25Z hardware.  If you're up for some C++ work, you might be able to port it, although I expect it would be a significant effort.

Problem is that KL25z is very hard to find and where it is available, it is very expensive. This means that alternative is needed.

Everybody is mentioning Microsoft SideWinder Freestyle Pro as option for nudge. Can we just use motion sensor from modern controllers (XBOX or PS5) or SideWinder has completely different sensor?

I already have controller with all buttons. Can SideWinder be added just for nudging?

Yes. That's what I had in my previous setup: Ultimarc I-PAC for buttons and Sidewinder Freestyle Pro for nudging.

In fact, the cheapest way is just using the Sidewinder for everything, including button handling - although that'd require soldering leads to the PCB for the buttons, but it would definitely work. The Sidewinder has plenty of buttons which you can configure any way you want.

I had the same question but I have not received answers.

At the end, I have ordered Sidewinder and I will see what is the difference in how Windows sees devices. What I see now is that Windows does not recognize PS5 controller movement in Controller settings, although it works in games.

I found out that it is possible to map movement of a controller to a left (or right) stick using DS4Windows.

This means, e.g. if I move PS5 controller left, it is behaving like I pushed left stick left. This can be seen in USB Controllers setup but VPX does not react to this movement, I don't know why.

I will continue to experiment - if I make it work, DS5 could be used for nudge too.

3D printers seem to use 3 axis accelerator modules with USB for rather cheap:
https://trianglelab....cts/usb-adxl345
I have no coding or flashing experience experience but could this be used for nudge in VPX out of the box? It seems to be an accelerometer module called ADXL345 and it comes as a kit with USB connector , STM32 control chip and connector to flash software on it for under 20$.
Would it be hard to flash code on it so it can be used in VPX? Or is a Teensy LC needed (not that cheap anymore)?

Sure it can, once you write the code for it, flash it, realize that you still have to tailor the code to work with the mounting orientation, revise the code, reflash the board, and repeat until you have it working the way that you want it to.

Good luck with your project :)

Ok , you proved my ignorance :). I have no such talent so perhaps this is not the best idea unless a capable person puts him/herself behind it to flesh this out. Thanks for the reply
There is some guide around to do this but frankly it goes over my head...

Not trying to discourage you, just pointing out what's usually involved.

What you provided as a link will likely work fine for you.
