I have tried this and no luck, so unistalled/reinstalled, followed the instructions on the site as best as is possible, for compatablity it only does xp up to W8, this is W10, followed all possible instructions given and on the site, downloaded 'World cup soccer 94' there is no ROM showing on the folder on the right, so downloaded them anyway, so when opening the game, it gets as far as the playfield, press play on the top left and it starts to load then a box comes up still saying... 'machine wcs_12 world cup soccer(LX-2) terminated before intialised, check the rom path or rom file'..thats as far as can get. Any ideas please.

Normally, within the first 20 lines of the script you can see what rom the table wants...cgamename or something like that. Get the correct rom. Do not unzip it. Place into the roms folder which is in the Pinmame folder. Pretty straight forward. And generally the error that pops up lists the rom you need as well

Thanks I've tried all of these suggestions and still not working. I've uninstalled then reinstalled everything following all instructions but the compatibility only goes up to Windows 8, I'm on W10, anyway have downloaded world cup soccer 94 no sign of rom on rh side. Ihave downloaded the rom from ipdb, then opening the game the same problem occurs, a box tells me  'machine wcs-12 World cup soccer (Lx-2) terminated before initialised, check the rom path or rom file'

any idea really appreciated

As mentioned, open the script & search or use find and locate "cGameName". It will list the ROM. Get the ROM from the VPForum website, not ipbd.

In the ROM download section there are several ROMs listed for World Cup Soccer. You'll have to look in the script to see which one is needed.

Here's an example, this is from Alien Poker.

17 Const cGameName = "alpok_l6"

You would need alpok_l6.

Did you use the all in one installer? If not, maybe you should give that a shot. It’s foolproof to make sure everything is installed inthe right place. I’m pretty sure it defaults to installing to “c”. If it wants to install to program files change it to c

Update

Thanks for the replies, the EM game loaded and plays ok, but still no luck with modern games, the ATFM wont load it comes up with message saying it was saved with a newer verstion than the one I have, this must be the driver of the games, I had downloaded VP installer. I checked in the Visual pinball folder in C and doesnt  seem to be a rom folder, where you see tables etc. so created one. All the downloads including roms are going into C/downloads and I have to transfer them to visual pinball...quite honestly its getting to be a mess, difficult to know whats going on, may be best to take it all off again and start from scratch. Had enough for tonight. Thanks JB

The installer should be named VPX5setup.exe otherwise you have the wrong installer.

The ROM folder is in the VPinMAME sub-folder.

Update this morning

Have studied how this all works, found the roms for the game, must vary as they were under the games list, and found the roms folder in VPinball folder, so went through it all again and put the roms in the rom folder still zipped, although when checking can see they have gone from 1 folder at download to 4 or 5 floders on the roms folder in c/Visual pinball folder, anyway...click Play and same old problem roms not found or not valid, 'machine wcs-12 World cup soccer (Lx-2) terminated before initialised, check the rom path or rom file'. There must be a place where can match roms to game. Any ideas much appreiciated.

In your VPinMAME folder, there sould be a file called setup.exe. Run setup.exe and you will get a screen like the one below.

vpmsetup.png

Click the Test button. In the window that appears, scroll down to where you can see the various versions of "World Cup Soccer".

vpmtest.png

On the entry that reads "World cup soccer (Lx-2)" there should be an X to the right. If there is not an X to the right, you do not have the correct ROM installed. This screen tells you what ROM you need. On the same line as "World cup soccer (Lx-2)" it says "wcs_l2" which means that you need the ROM called wcs_l2.zip

It would help if you posted a screen shot of what this window looks like for you. Let us know if you don't know how to post a screen shot to these forums.

Also, the download section on this site can get confusing when there are multiple versions of a file. For example, the page where you download the VPX installer looks like this:

533f804ef1898d083c611e06b9dc1e76.png

When you click the download link (which I highlighted with an arrow in the image above), after the "confirm and download" screen, you get this screen:

350c421a8e2c68b42e3b88d63d739daf.png

The only file you should download here is VPX5setup.zip - all other files are obsolete versions.

Hello Wizball

Thanks, I followed you pictures/info and got it going, I would never have known that from the instructions on site. The sound needs looking at, as game sounds are drowned out by the flippers etc. but at least getting somewhere now. So I have tried some other games but more problems as there doesnt seem to be any roms available, for instance Medieval Madness, I downloaded MM 1.3 under V9, then followed the same :- Test/Scrolled down to MM to see which rom needed/cant see a 1.3/check the roms by the right side, but says not available to all, same with many other games. I cant send a picture, I know how to screen print but i dont know how to get the picture on this page.

Thanks JB

1.3 is just the table version. Look at the rom error to see what it wants or look at the beginning of the script

There is a page with tutorials on how to set the volume on a table that uses a ROM. You have mentioned World Cup Soccer and Medieval Madness, so the guide on adjusting the volume on Bally/Midway/Williams WPC is what you're looking for.

How to post a screen shot to VPForums

  1. Click in the window you want to take a screenshot of to make it the active window.
  2. Hold down the left Alt key and press the Print Scrn key (typically to the right of the F12 key).
  3. Start MS Paint. The image below shows how to find Paint using the search next to the Start menu on Windows 10.
    startpaint.png
  4. In Paint, press the Paste button in the action bar, then press the Crop button in the action bar.
    paintbuttons.png
  5. The canvas in Paint should now contain an image of the window that you took a screen shot of.
  6. In the File menu in Paint, click on Save as and then PNG picture.
    paintsaveas.png
  7. You will get a dialog asking you to name and save the picture. Save the picture to somewhere on your hard drive that you can remember.
  8. On the VPForums web site, click on VPF Image Host in the top banner.
    vpfimghost.png
  9. Click Browse in the new window that appears. In the file dialog, select the file that you saved in step 7.
    vpfhostbrowse.png
  10. Click Upload in the VPForums Image Host window. Leave the VPForums Image Host window open.
  11. Start writing the message on VPForums that you want to contain the screen shot.
  12. Switch to the VPForums Image Host window. Copy the text in "Direct link to image". Make sure to copy all the text and not just the visible part. A keyboard shortcut for doing this is Ctrl+A for selecting the text, then Ctrl+C for copying it.
    vpfimglink0.png
  13. Switch the the message you're writing. Click the Insert Image icon in the text editor.
    addimageicon.png
  14. In the "Image Properties" pop-up, paste in the text that you copied from the VPForums Image Host window in step 12.
    imgprops.png
  15. The image should now appear in your message!

Hello

thanks for your patience and explaining getting started, I am up and running now. 1st game was World cup soccer 94, that was easy as the LX 2 and so on matched in the test page for a rom to suit.  My wife likes Creature from BL but when I check for the roms they dont match up, in the test page can find game roms D2/3/4/L2/3/4/5C/P3 but go back to the games and none of them have this by the side of them...maybe 1.1 or something. If someone could send me a link to Creature FBL game and match up the rom I could work out how to come about this. Other wise great site, many games have links to roms anyway. But hey no rush, its Christmas so have a good time, thanks to all for getting me going.

 Hello

Please excuse my lack of tech expertise, but some games I'd like to download I cannot find the roms for, and so have gone for the few that have links on the right, but for instance:- I am trying Red and Teds RS, games listed are 1.0.1 and 1.2, then I go to the games list/test/down to Red and ted..and can only find L-2 to L-6, can anyone explain how to find the correst rom for any game please?

----------still cant paste a screen shot on here----------will try some more experiments on that!

Thanks
