Glad to help and glad you got it working ... trust me, I know how frustrating it is to go round and round with something so darn simple that doesn't work properly. But at least now others with same problem will read this thread and not have the same problem.

It's a learning curve.

Now you have the cool new features of PinballX, which I myself really really really like over other front ends.

About the image vs video. If you have a picture file and a video file in correct folder with correct name. The video file will be chosen.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

really cool, what you all did here. I have two questions:

- it isn't DOFed, yet, right? At least I did not find any new config for the ROM over at the DOF config tool site

- is there a way to turn off bells or chimes completely. I think those sounds somehow kill the creepy athmosphere.

The table is DOF'd. But because it is an EM table with no roms, you have to add it to your DirectOuput Config .ini

The original Out of Sight suffers the same problem because that too has not been added to the DOF database either.

BUT - This table is basically the same as the Gottlieb - Far Out table, other than it is 2 player instead of 4.

Now I am not 100% sure of this, because I don't know enough about DOF that what I am suggesting will work flawlessly with any risk (someone please correct me if I am wrong) - but I think if you copy the FarOut line in the DOF config ini, and paste it the the config with the table b2s name, it SHOULD work. But I cannot give you any guarantee because I do not know if there is something in the 4 player version that will mess something up in the 2 player dof config - ie: roast a solenoid. Was waiting for the proper dof mapping for the table before I had the 'balls' to try it.

Now about your sound question, isn't there a setting in Table options that allows you to set the volume of the sound fx? Or does that turn ALL the sounds down.

When I designed the theme of the table, we wanted to keep it vintage sounding for the most part and we actually lowered the table bells and chimes considerably so they would be lower than all the other sound fx.

Sorry for disturbing your thread guys.

But since I mentioned it already in the thread and I did a update to those files over at randr site. It should now include this table.

HiRez thanks, what you suggested works (Far out is already part of the configs)

For the chimes/bells option: yes, there is one in the script, but for me it doesn't change much setting it to 0 or 1 (no physical chimes/bells in my cab). They are always ON. Because you asked: no, they are not affecting any other sounds.

Not a big thing btw, just wanted to know, if I can suppress them totally.

No I mean when you select table options, not the script, isn't there a setting (slider) where you can set the table volumes and sound fx from 0 - 100%?

I'm not at my cab at the moment, so I can't check.

A question if I may....the DMD files that you included....I'm anxious to give those a try....I installed that folder within my Media folder and then tried to import one of the files within that folder to the DMD from Pinball X's "Game Manager" . You know, the same way that you import a wheel image. Is this correct or am I missing something. After doing so my pindmd3 display remains blank...so I must be missing something.

------

A few weeks ago, I wrestled with the exact same problem with my DMD and PinballX for 2 days non-stop before I got it to work. It was AFTER I got it to work that I decided to include 'DMD Files" with the download because I tested each one with PinballX and KNOW they work properly. Its just a matter of getting all the settings right and putting the files in the right places.

First off, when using PinballX, does the DMD ever work on ANY table when you are browsing through our table choices? Mine was blank at first and DID NOT show anything for any game while in PInballX from day 1, not even the default PinballX animation or image. I know it had something to do with the dll's and pinmame in the PinballX folder were way outdated.

I don't know if it is necessary, but I upgraded to the latest PinballX 3.04. I made a backup of my original PinballX folder (IMPORTANT), and re-installed the newer version of PInballX (3.04). The newer version has some cool new features list being able to make "Favorites" lists within PInballX without having to go make a new xml database and everything, plus some other new features and fixes that I really like as well.

I also copied the dmddevice.dll from my 'PinMame' folder and put it in my PinballX folder as well. (ONLY DO THIS ONLY IF THE PinDMD.dll in your PInMame folder is NEWER than the pindmd.dll in PinballX) - back up you original pindmd.dll if you have to change back to the old version.)

When I started up the newer version of PinballX, at least there was NOW a default 'Pinball X' color animation on the
DMD while browsing tables in PinballX.

The next thing I did was in 'Game Manager' was import 'Read DMD Color Images' for images and 'Real DMD Color Videos' for videos. I wanted the DMD to display a video so I selected one of the NOTLD mp4 video files. This automatically imported the video, renamed it to the exact table name, and put it in the correct folder in PinballX.

When I started PinballX, the NOTLD video / image was on the DMD while in PinballX browser BEFORE actually starting the table up.

According to a posting in the support section of the makers / distributors of PinballX, in the newer versions, the "Hide DMD" option in the game settings means "Do you want to hide the DMD image when you are LEAVING PinballX to open say Virtual Pinball."
If 'Hide DMD' is set to FALSE (unchecked) , the PinballX animation will STAY ON THE DMD when you start the table. If the table has its own DMD, PinballX has over-ridden the DMD and the DMD for the game doesn't show up. This is fine for games that DON'T use the DMD like EM tables.

If you set 'Hide DMD' setting to TRUE (checked), when when you are in PinballX, you see whatever graphic or video you have set to that particular game, but when you start a table, the image / video will turn off (Hide it) and the actual game DMD will show up.

So for the NOTLD table that doesn't use the DMD you want 'Hide DMD' unchecked, and it will stay on the screen while you actually play the game / table.

I guess the most important thing is if you DON'T have any video or image on your DMD while in the PinballX table browser, you have to get that working properly FIRST - BEFORE using and of the DMD files we included in the download.

Thanks HiRez for the very detailed answer.....here’s where I am now with regards to the DMD display.
Yes I get the Pinball X animation as I scroll through all the tables and when I come to NOTLD I get the Night of the Living Dead image on the display BEFORE I launch the table. Once I load the table the DMD is dark as the game is played. I think I must be close considering I am able to get the Night of the Living Dead image on the DMD while in “attract” mode.
Things I have done:
Updated my Pindmd.dll in my Pinball X folder with the newer version that was in my Pinmame folder.(The copy in my Pinmame folder was updated in April when I installed my pinDMD3 )
I copied my dmddevice.dll from Pinmame over to my Pinball X folder as you suggested above.
I unchecked “Hide DMD” in Game Manager(also tried it with the box checked and no display)
I am running a VERY old version of Pinball X....ver 2.27 about a year or so ago perhaps longer there was a problem and everyone was forced to upgrade. But when we tried we weren’t able to log into Pinball X to get the update. Some guys provided a work around to that and that involved adding some changes to the .ini file I believe. Anyway I did that and haven’t upgraded since. Nor have I been prompted to update......that was the beauty of the workaround. We just got tired of having to update Pinball X so often.....Maybe now I’m seeing the negative effect of that?
So I just downloaded ver 3.6 and will install it AFTER I back up what I have now.....
Learned that lesson the hard way years ago.
I do like the idea of “Favorites” and whatever other improvements have been made so I will do that and report back.
At least for now I have the NOTLD .png displayed in attract mode. (And that was displaying there prior to me doing what I mentioned above.I’m really close I think....just have to get the .F4V playing on the DMD during gameplay.
I’ll report back after the update is running.
Thanks again!

@Johngrave. I don't think you can have the png AND the mp4s loaded for 1 table, because I think PinballX is wonky like that. You have to choose 1 or the other and REMOVE any pngs in their respective folders in PInballX and you ONLY have the MP4 in the Real DMD Color Videos folder. So basically you are FORCING PInballX only has 1 choice for something to show on the DMD . This is only for testing purposes to make sure DMD VIDEOS are running properly. In normal operation, the PinballX will prefer the 'video' files over the image files.

When you're in PinballX and browsing tables, you SHOULD get the video running for the table, much like the PinballX default ones, but I don't know if the older version of PInballX supports MP4s, but I know the newer one does for sure because its works on my system and I am a 'newb'.

Yeah, the 'Favorites' option in the newer version of PinballX is pretty darn cool. Makes it so easy to have a list of your 'favorites' without the 'muck' around.

Just wanted to report that updating Pinball X to ver 3.06 has resolved my issues with the DMD displaying the MP4 during gameplay.
I do wonder if I can change the color to yellow like it’s displayed in the MP4 file in the DL folder. Mine is being displayed in a reddish/orange. I’m pretty new to the color pinDMD3 world and am still getting up to speed on things in that world.
Thanks

Try in the first 1 or 2 pages of PinballX setting. 3/4 of the way down you can select if you are using a color DMD or not I think. Remember you have to go all the way to the 2nd to last page to SAVE your new settings.

Did you import the video in the game settings as a "Real Color DMD Video"?

I’m going to have to spend some time getting familiar with the new version as I have not seen any setting “Real Color DMD Video” that would be in Game Manager. Is this the table specific info like when you add a new table and install the wheel and audio files within Game Manager? Is that where I would find that?

There are 2 parts to this:

1.) Check your Settings (2nd page) in PinballX and 3/4 of the way down it says something like "Do you have a Color DMD or Use Color DMD" make sure it is set to yes. You don't need to set any Colors, just make sure it is set to yes.

2.) In GAME SETTINGS, where you load a table into your database, when you import the game, next to it it should say "Import" and you can select the wheel icon, etc, and RealColorDMD Video, select that and then import the NOTLD color video (not the black and white one). Then under the name of your game in game settings, make sure Hide DMD is NOT checked.

really cool, what you all did here.

Using FarOut settings and NOTLD68 as name has DOF working without any apparent issue on my cab. Nothing smoking as of yet!

Ok.....found the proper settings and have everything working nicely at the moment. Thanks very much for your help. The Yellow NOTLD against the blue background looks very nice indeed.

Are you using the MP4 video or the png still image.

Its probably hard to tell, but the blue moving background on the MP4 is colored "smoke" to look like "night moonlit air", cuz every older horror movie always had smoke / fog in the air at night.

I’m running the video....you can tell that it’s smoke or fog......I pretty much assumed that it was fog for the reasons you just gave. This upgrade was huge for me in terms of curb appeal of the cabinet!
Thanks to you and Xenonph for this!

Oh I  agree 100%. Being able to have an image on the DMD so it isn't just blank the whole time during browsing on PinballX or playing tables that don't use the DMD was a huge step for me as well. I only just figured it out 2 weeks ago, and I was so thrilled, that's why I included DMD files with the download. I even like the default one that comes with PinballX, just not when playing a non-DMD table because the flashing is a bit distracting.

Maybe we have started a new trend of including DMD images with new tables ... we will see ...

Glad I (we) were able to help. In 1 day with this thread, we got 2 people's DMDs working properly and got a player to get the DOF commands working as well. All in 1 day 24 hour period. It's a good day.
