all my files from my backup work 100% with the altsound method. If they don´t work at your site you did install somewhere somthing wrong

Hmm. I don't think I had to change the folder name. It already matched the rom name. So it may be that you are using a different rom than the alt sound folder is meant to be used with.

Ok, so I know I'm a pain in the a**, but stay with me.  I download the pinsound zip file Star_Wars_OST by Pinhead from the google drive on pinball junkies. Then I unziped the folder, changed the name to stwr_104 and dropped it in my altsound folder in VPinMame.  Changed the altsound mode=1 and started the game.  No music only table, ball rolling sounds.  I have Tommy,GnR, and the Getaway working fine because I had downloaded those files from the Pinsound community before they changed things.

Thanks Bambi. I logged in today to visual pinball junkies and saw where you had them all downloaded. I had been using the spreadsheet.  I didn't see Diner or Elvis?

If you have to change the folder name, then it's not the correct collection of alt sound files for the rom you are using.

Just in case someone stumbles over this old thread like I did and has been looking for a fix for 6 hours...

I encountered an issue where using altsound was working but was very quiet compared to the table sounds

I had setup everything correct for altsound for a table (Cheech & Chong). I set to use Alt Sound Mode = 1 (press F1), set the table volume to max using 8/9 keys and confirmed switching back to only rom sounds (Alt Sound Mode = 0) would work fine at full volume but when set to mode 1 all altsound volume was low when a game started.

it was working as I heard the new altsound intro at full volume when I start the table but after launching into a game all altsound went very quiet while table sounds and rom sounds were all full volume.

What fixed my issue was locating the altsound.ini file within the roms altsound folder and changing the option rom_volume_ctrl = 1 to 0. This now has all sounds playing at the same correct volume.

jestermgee, thank you! was killing me not having the lowrider music for cheech and chong, and changing the rom volume control did the trick. Gonna play the hell out of this table now, thanks again!
