Visual pinball uses Direct Output Framework to turn on and off the lighting and solenoids, you should have a folder on your hard drive with the name DirectOutput and that should be the folder where you copied the dof R3 into..

For your situation DofLinx has nothing to do with visual pinball it is mainly used for pinball FX2 and future pinball

Ok, that's where I'm confused.  What should be in the DirectOutput folder?  That's what I have, by the way, but I'm messing with DofLinx.exe.  Are you saying DofLinx.exe isn't used by Visual Pinball?  If so, that makes sense, but then what exactly is used out of that directory by Visual Pinball for the lighting/force feedback to work?

Right now I'm just trying to get the lighting and force feedback effects to work again in Visual Pinball.  Forget about Future Pinball and Pinball FX2 for now.  I am just trying to get it back to working like it was when I got it.

I don't know what it takes and what I should have in order to make Visual Pinball work with the lighting and force feedback, though.

c:\directoutput

R3 meaning Doflinx.exe, right?  I downloaded the file and extracted it to c:\directoutput.  Let's make sure I downloaded the right thing.  Can you verify the link to R3?  I'm 99.999% positive I downloaded the right thing but I'm not positive if R3 is the same thing as doflinx.exe or even if doflinx.exe is used for visual pinball.  That's where I'm confused at this point.

DOF R3 Beta 1 download: http://pinball.weile..._5812.27024.zip - this is what I downloaded and extracted.

R3 meaning Doflinx.exe, right? --> No it's two different programs

Can doflinx.exe be used for visual pinball? --> It can be but unless you took a visual pinball table and added the items to the script of the table it's not not being used for visual pinball

Yes I believe that was the right one but this one is the latest version

I’m just trying to get Visual Pinball to have force feedback and lighting like it did when the guy left.  I messed it up and don’t know what I did.

What I’m trying to figure out right now is exactly what “Dof” is without doflinx and where the configuration file would be and what it is called that tells Dof how to communicate with my lighting and solenoids.

If I could figure out exactly what I need, or accidentally overwrote, or isn’t working, maybe just maybe I could get a copy of it from the guy I bought it from as he could steal a copy from a working machine.

He sent me the whole directoutput directory but that didn’t work.  I don’t see anything that specifies which “toys” I have, though, other than doflinx.ini which I can’t get working right and now believe doesn’t have anything to do with visual pinball to begin with.

Thanks for your help,

–J

I saw that and clicked on it but have no clue how to use it and couldn't find any tutorials anywhere.  It's overwhelming to me at this point.  I have no idea what to do with it.

Is there a configuration file it creates? If so, what is it called?  There has to be something somewhere that communicates with DOF and tells it how my machine is set up, what my machine has on it, etc.  If I could figure out what file that is, I could maybe get a copy of it from a working machine.  Do you know what it is?

I don't know where the configuration file is that it is asking for in the tester.  I don't know that I have one.  I picked a table and picked the matching rom and clicked ok and nothing happened.  I don't know how to use the tool or if it's what I need to use to figure out what's what.

In your directoutput directory you should have a folder called config

In the config folder do you have file called GlobalConfig_B2SServer.xml

No, that is not there.

That file is nowhere on the drive and I can't imagine I would've deleted it...Anything is possible as everything was working, but if that's the file that makes everything work, I don't have it and see no traces of it.

no.  There is a global.xml file in the directoutput directory but that's it.

In the config directory I have tablemappings and globaloutputtestersettings.  Those are the only two xml files in the config directory.

I'm going to hopefully tell you how to make one... double click GlobalConfigEditor.exe it will open a new window and click on the ini files tab and down in the middle it'll say ini files path click on select Ini files path and then find your direct output folder and under that should be config highlight config then click okay... now close the global configuration editor and it may ask you about changing the configuration say yes and then a new window will open save the file in your config Folder and call it GlobalConfig_B2SServer.xml

After that file is made then we will go back to DirectOutputConfigTester.exe

:unknw: The command line parameter is PACLED64=1 not PACLED=1.  Sorry I guided you incorrectly as to the name I should have looked it up in the manual myself

You will know if this has worked as it forces DOFLinx to look for a PacLED64 with ID#1.  As such, the log will either show a success or fail PacLED64 message.  In your LOG you will notice there is simply no mention of the PacLED64.  This is still the first thing to get sorted out for DOFLinx.  Without an output device you will continue to get parameter errors and can not test anything.

@Outhere, FYI, PACLED64= is only a command line parameter.  Placing it in the INI file will be ignored as DOFLinx needs to know what devices it can see by the time it gets to INI file processing.

Ok, I made that change in the shortcut and now when I double click it, it just opens but doesn't show a window or icon or anything.

Here's my log

09-Aug-17 18:52:07.388 - DOF Linx for Pinball Emulators - DOFLinx by DDH69
09-Aug-17 18:52:07.395 - Starting up - version 5.01

I see no icon, no nothing.  But it is in taskmgr as a running process.  There's just nothing to click on.
