Hey All,

I think I have around 100 games on my cab with 10.6 which work nicely, but I have a handful of games with which there is no music. That means I hear the ball sounds, pop bumper sounds, etc. Examples are Williams Funhouse and Gottlieb Stargate, also Gottlieb Bonebusters. I've checked the audio levels in the menu under preferences as well as where the sound is routed (same as all other games) as well as the volume control on my amplifier. Anywhere else I can check - script, other menus ? Many thanks for any tips.

those sounds you talk about a VPinMAME sounds

VpinMAME does not set any audio device settings, it will play to what ever device windows tells it is the default device, including an HDMI monitor with no speakers plugged in.

What i would check 1st is windows playback devices, see how many you list
disable all of them but your actual sound audio device you are playing VPX to.

Now keep in mind some of those ROMS the default audio level is next to nothing

On williams ROMS you hit END to open the coin door, and then keys 8 and 9 to turn volume up and down, and then END to close the coin door again

Stern ROMS you dont need to open the coin door

Stargate you might have a bad ROM that is missing the audio files, stargate has no ROM volume control
as gottlieb just used analog volume controls on the speaker output itself

Stagate should play a test tone as the ROM boots

Since you have many other roms the are playing ROM audio, i will assume your audio setup is fine and you dont need to check the audio part.

Funhouse, you have to turn up the volume, it defaults to like nothing

Stargate, i suggest trying this ROM (You may have to clear your nvram file)
It is stargat5 so you may need the change the cgamename in the table script to match

The other Gottlieb table could be same thing, a bad ROM but i dont have that one handy

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

many thanks for these tips. On Funhouse I will check the ROM volume, I can't remember if I'd looked at this.

To Stargate, I tried stargat3, stargat4 and stargat5, each time changing the cGameName. With 3 and 4, I had no music, but could play, With 5 I could not get the game to start. I'l try the stargat5 you indicated, I had found mine on a different site, but not here on vpforums. Maybe it was defective, I've had a few defective ROMs with other (mostly 70s and 80s) games.

I'm actually not sure what you mean with clearing the nvram file. I did find this thread, I will need to study it in more detail, assuming this is what you mean.

Don't forget about this sticky that shows how to adjust ROM volume on a bunch of tables:

vpinmame\nvram\romname.nv
just delete said file

VPUniverse has up to date ROMS, we do not as we do not seem to allow new ROM uploads
so sometimes we have ones that do not work, sometimes an update to vpinmame will require some ROMs to be redumped

The one i linked you is my ROM, it is a merged ROM and so does not need the parent sets

Some ROMs are the revised code only and require the parent ROM to work right
Like revision 5 may need revision one because the core code is in revision 1 and revision 5's chip only contains updated info

I had the same exact issue. While running VPX I went to the sound settings in windows to the advanced page for apps/programs and it showed my virtual pinball volume was down to zero. I turned it up to 100%. problem corrected
