M.A.M.E.

Thought I would add link to MAME Emulator.

This is probably covered somewhere else in these forums.

This is where I usually get my MAME Emu updates.

I use the MAME with the GUI versions. (MAME32-MAMEUI)

Found here.. http://www.progettosnaps.net/mameui/

APPLE IIe COMPUTER

The Apple IIe computer was a great computer back in the day.

I grew up playing many games on it, including some of my favorites like Moebius, Conan, Bolo, Bruce Lee, and who can forget Zork and Kings Quest.

They just had started putting computers in schools when i was in 5th grade and these were the ones they used. And I learned a little Apple Basic in Computer Lab. I made a simple program that asked a few questions and then showed the spaceshuttle made of keyboard characters launching off the screen. Just simple INPUT a$ and if a$="something" goto certain line. I won first prize in 5th grade science fair with that and i made a lightbulb light up with just an orange soaking in salt water as energy source. Still don't remember how I did that!!

Anyways , enough rambling. What I am trying to say is the Apple IIe Computer holds a special place in my childhood, and the best emulator that I have found is AppleWin. If you have used these computers before, then you should have no problems with this emulator. If you haven't, there is a help file built into emulator with all the info you need on how to start games.

Find it here...https://github.com/AppleWin/AppleWin

The download will be at bottom of page.

Great Classics Scorpion...

I do Indeed remember those games

Did you know...

"Jumpman" was Mario's original name in the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong, which featured several elements that appear in Jumpman. Randy Glover has stated that Donkey Kong was the original inspiration for Jumpman. It is not clear whether the naming commonality is anything other than a coincidence.

Download Page to Jumpman DOS game..http://www.myabandon...game/jumpman-2f

And check out this!!!

Jumpman Lives! is an excellent and faithful rewrite of Epyx's Jumpman and Jumpman Jr., the latter of which was never before made for PC. Written by Dave Sharpless and released as shareware by Apogee, the game contains all 30 levels from the original Jumpman, 10 levels from Jumpman Jr., 5 new levels, plus an easy-to-use level editor. In addition to preserving the look and feel of the original jump-and-run classic, Jumpman Lives! offers the option to jump to a random level, multiple difficulty levels, and the ability to handle up to 4 players simultaneously.

Download Page to Jumpman Lives! DOS version here...

http://www.myabandon...mpman-lives-16n

And ROGUE the dungeon crawling game, inspired many of todays games such as Hack, NetHack, and even Diablo!!

The only commercial release of dungeon-crawl classic Rogue, Epyx' version is 1.45, while Jon Lane's original release is 1.1. I'm not quite sure what the difference is/are between the two versions, except that Epyx probably tidied up the codes and tweaked play balance a little bit before the commercial release.

if you are interested in the rare commercial version of this game, check out Rogue (Epyx)

Rogue The Adventure Game for DOS..

I'm good for useless trivia...LOL

You will need DOSBox to run these on modern computers.

Check post # 15 in this Topic for an EASY method on playing DOS Games.

You are welcome my friend, Glad to help!

I have enjoyed all these Pinball Tables from here, and know that alot of work was put into each aspect of these tables.

I feel that I want to contribute and try to give back to the site and community that has brought me many years of pinball joy.

I don't know how to make tables. (YET) So I can't contribute that way.

So I figure the only thing I have to offer is INFORMATION on things that I do know about.

This info isn't much, but it is all I have to offer to the pinball community at this time.

Keep on Pinballin'

     Magnavox Odyssey2-VIDEOPAC+ G7400 Emulation

The Magnavox Odyssey², known in Europe as the Philips Videopac G7000, in Brazil as the Philips Odyssey, in the United States as the Magnavox Odyssey² and the Philips Odyssey², and also by many other names, is a home video game console released in 1978.

In the early 1970s, Magnavox was an innovator in the home video game industry. They succeeded in bringing the first home video game system to market, the Odyssey, which was quickly followed by a number of later models, each with a few technological improvements (Magnavox Odyssey series). In 1978, Magnavox, now a subsidiary of North American Philips, released the Odyssey², its new second-generation video game console.

Mattel Intellivision Emulation

The Intellivision is a home video game console released by Mattel in 1979. Development of the console began in 1978, less than a year after the introduction of its main competitor, the Atari 2600. The word intellivision is a portmanteau of "intelligent television". Over 3 million Intellivision units were sold and a total of 125 games were released for the console.

Nostalgia Emulator for the Intellivision

Features of Nostalgia 4.2 and 5.0:

* Intellivoice and ECS support, including the ECS keyboard
* Run all existing games and any new games
* Groovy, retro-feel interface
* Command line support to allow use of emulator front-end software
* Completely customizable joystick / keyboard interface
* Customizable color palette so you can make it look like you remember
* Record movie captures with sound in AVI format
* Record sound captures in WAV format
* Snap screen captures in BMP format
* Save and Restore games
* Play against a friend over a network/internet
* Add your own game box, overlay images, and manual to display with the game

The help file included with Nostalgia answers most F.A.Q.; below are the most common.

What do I need to play games in Nostalgia?

The main files you need to play all games:

* Executive ROM: Commonly named EXEC.BIN or EXEC.INT.
* Graphics ROM: Commonly named GROM.BIN or GROM.INT.

* Entertainment Computer System ROM: Commonly named ECS.BIN. Required to play ECS games.
* Intellivoice ROM: Commonly named IVOICE. Required to play Intellivoice games.

(The above files should reside in the directory where Nostalgia is installed.)

* DirectX: minimum version is 8.0. The latest version of DirectX can be downloaded from Microsoft.

* Game ROM images: These can be download from the internet or purchased from Intellivision Productions.

Are the manuals and overlays available in the game?

Nostalgia supports the display of a game's box and overlay images within the emulator. The help file explains how to set this up.

What input devices does Nostalgia support, other than the keyboard?

Any joystick that is installed and appears in the Gaming Options section of Window's Control Panel. The Classic Game Controller interface is also supported.

Emulator Download Page found here..http://www.intellivi...a/nostalgia.php

You will find 2 versions of the emulator on this page. (Either one should work - I use version 5.0)

Both versions of the installers will install the Nostalgia Emulator into your Program Files in a folder named Nostalgia.

You will also find below the download link for version 5.0, Download links to Manuals and Image Packs.

Download the Manuals and place contents in manuals folder located in Nostalgia folder.

C:\program files\nostalgia\manuals

Download all 5 Image Packs and place contents in images folder located in Nostalgia folder.

C:\program files\nostalgia\images

Now all you need is some games and you are ready to play!

Find them here...http://www.intellivi...s/roms/roms.php

Click on the picture of game to download.

The contents of the download need to be placed in the roms folder located in Nostalgia folder.

C:\program files\nostalgia\roms

You can save a desktop shortcut to the nostalgia.exe file located in Nostalgia folder by right-clicking on nostalgia.exe and clicking save shortcut to desktop.

(For easy access to start emulator. Or you can find the exe that starts emulator by clicking Start button and clicking all programs.)

You will notice you can't play some games without these 2 files..

* Executive ROM: Commonly named EXEC.BIN or EXEC.INT.
* Graphics ROM: Commonly named GROM.BIN or GROM.INT.

You must own an Intellivision, or buy the Intellivision Lives CD, to own these 2 files.

They explain on the site how to get them off your physical machine that you own and how to move them to emulator.

These files need to be placed in same folder as nostalgia.exe

C:\program files\nostalgia

But what if you own the machine and still can't figure out how to get these moved from your Intellivision, to the emulator.

(Not everyone is so smart or has the tools even to extract these files from their Intellivision's. And who wants to pay for a CD for something they already physically own.)

That's where Google can help.

A simple search for "Intellivision grom.bin" or "Intellivision exec.bin"

and the top result should help you find what you are looking for.

You are only legally able to download this if you own an Intellivision.

There are 2 more files that you will need for proper emulation of some games.

* Entertainment Computer System ROM: Commonly named ECS.BIN. Required to play ECS games.
* Intellivoice ROM: Commonly named IVOICE. Required to play Intellivoice games.

You must own an Intellivision, or buy the Intellivision Lives CD, to own these 2 files.

They explain on the site how to get them off your physical machine that you own and how to move them to emulator.

These files need to be placed in same folder as nostalgia.exe

If you know where to find M.E.S.S. BIOS files..

You will find 2 zip files named,

intv.zip

intvecs.zip

Inside the intv.zip file you will find sp0256-012.bin

This is the Intellivoice ROM required to play Intellivoice games.

Place this file in Nostalgia folder.

C:\program files\nostalgia

Inside intvecs.zip you will find ecs_rom.bin

This is the Entertainment Computer System ROM required to play ECS games.

Place this file in Nostalgia folder.

C:\program files\nostalgia

For more games check post #16 in this topic, made by toxie.

Now say you want to play your emulator and games at a friends house on their computer.

But they dont have access to internet to download the emulator or games. And they don't want emulator installed on their system.

You can make this "Portable" to where it doesn't have to be installed on computer to play.

I just go into program files folder and find nostalgia folder, after everything is installed.

Right-Click on nostalgia folder and click send to my documents.

You will now have a copy of nostalgia folder in Documents.

You will need a file called "d3dx9_36.dll" placed in nostalgia folder for this to work.

YOU ONLY NEED THIS FILE IF YOU ARE MAKING NOSTALGIA "PORTABLE"

Find here.. http://www.dll-files....shtml?d3dx9_36

You want the 3rd option "Manual Fix" download zip file

It will say choose version. Click 32bit and then the download button will appear.

Place contents of zip file into nostalgia folder

Now you can just copy nostalgia folder to a USB Stick or CD to take with you on the go!!

This will run without having to install anything.

Just click nostalgia.exe from folder

You will need to click the "Tools" tab on emulator and click "Settings" and set the new paths to folders.

(AS IT IS NO LONGER IN PROGRAM FILES), or the emulator will not work.

No need for any installation or uninstallation. To uninstall simply delete nostalgia folder.

Remember you are only legally entitled to these if you actually own the Intellivision and the games.

Hope this helps people relive a gaming experience from the past.

                     ATARI 2600 VCS

The Atari 2600, (or Atari VCS before 1982) is a home video game console released on September 11, 1977 by Atari, Inc. It is credited with popularizing the use of microprocessor-based hardware and ROM cartridges containing game code, a format first used with the Fairchild Channel F game console. This format contrasts with the older model of having non-microprocessor dedicated hardware, which could only play the games which were physically built into the unit.

The console was originally sold as the Atari VCS, which stood for Video Computer System. Following the release of the Atari 5200 in 1982, the VCS was renamed to the "Atari 2600", after the unit's Atari part number, CX2600. The 2600 was typically bundled with two joystick controllers, a conjoined pair of paddle controllers, and a game cartridge, initially Combat, and later Pac-Man.

There are many emulators for the Atari 2600,
This is the one I use.

                                     STELLA
                        A Multi-Platform Atari 2600 VCS Emulator

Stella is a multi-platform Atari 2600 VCS emulator released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). Stella was originally developed for Linux by Bradford W. Mott, and is currently maintained by Stephen Anthony. Since its original release several people have joined the development team to port Stella to other operating systems such as AcornOS, AmigaOS, DOS, FreeBSD, IRIX, Linux, OS/2, MacOS, Unix, and Windows.

Find Downloads here..http://stella.source...t/downloads.php

The top 2 Downloads on this page installs the program to your "Program Files". Choose 32 or 64 bit version.
The 3rd Download is a "Portable" version that doesn't install to Program Files. It is just run from EXE in folder.
Pick which version best suits your needs and Download.

At the bottom of the Downloads Page you will see Miscellaneous/Extras.
Download stella-snapshots-20150101.zip to your Documents and UnZIP folder.
These will be used to display a snapshot of game while browsing for game to play.
Hold off on starting Emulator until you have dowloaded snapshots and ROMS and have both extracted in your Documents.

Now you need games.
At the bottom of this page here..
http://www.atarimani..._2600_roms.html

You will see "Download V10.0"

Click it and save to Documents.

This is a Great Atari Site!! Many other things to check out there!!

This is a huge Collection and I would say the most complete.
You need to Extract or UnZIP the ROMS folder and go inside and UnZIP another ROMs folder.
Now you are ready to start the Stella Emulator.

Start the Emulator by double-clicking Stella.exe
It will say something like "This is the first time you have run, point to your ROMs folder"
Browse to where your roms folder is located in Documents. Make sure to go into roms folder, and click roms folder that is inside roms folder.
Now your games should appear on left side of emulator window.
If not you can change path by clicking "Options" at bottom of emulator and click "Config Paths"
The only 2 paths important are the ROMs and the Snapshots.
To set up path to Snapshots folder you Unzipped, press Options at bottom of emulator, then click Snapshot Settings.
You will see Save Path and Load Path. The Load Path is the only Important one.
Click Load Path and find your folder in Documents.
Now when you start emulator, you will see screenshots of game on upper right of emulator screen.

To play game just highlight and press select, or just double click game.
You can adjust to fullscreen through the options menu at bottom of Emulator.

Has Support for Gamepads and Joysticks.

If you have any problems, consult this User's Guide which is also in your Docs folder that came with Stella Download....

http://stella.source...docs/index.html

Hope you enjoy!!

Atari 5200 and Atari 8-bit Computer

The Atari 5200 SuperSystem, commonly known as the Atari 5200, is a home video game console that was introduced in 1982 by Atari Inc. as a higher-end complementary console for the popular Atari 2600. The 5200 was created to compete with the Intellivision, but wound up more directly competing with the ColecoVision shortly after its release.

The 5200 was based on Atari Inc.'s existing 400/800 computers and the internal hardware was almost identical, although software was not directly compatible between the two systems. The 5200's controllers have an analog joystick and a numeric keypad along with start, pause and reset buttons. The 360-degree non-centering joystick was touted as offering more control than the eight-way joystick controller offered with the Atari 2600.

There are many emulators for the Atari 5200,
This is the one I use.

                                          kat5200

An emulator for the Atari 5200 and 8-bit computers (800/XL/XE)

Find Dowloads here..http://kat5200.jilly.../downloads.html

You will see this on Download page..

Version 0.6.2 (Current Stable Release)

kat5200-0.6.2-setup.exe (Win32 setup)    This installs to Program Files
kat5200-0.6.2.zip (Win32 zip)            This is Portable Version Ran from folder
    kat5200-0.6.2.tar.gz (Source)

Pick which version best suits your needs and Download.

Next you need the Atari 5200 BIOS ROM to play Atari 5200 Games
Check this page..http://atariage.com/...l?SystemID=5200

This File needs to be Extracted or UNZIPPED and placed in the same folder as the "kat5200.exe"
If you installed into your Program Files, Place in kat5200 folder
C:\Program Files\kat5200

Now you need games...
Check here...http://www.atariage....&ItemTypeID=ROM

AtariAge is a great place to find info on anything Atari related.

Make a folder named "Atari 5200 games" and place your Extracted or UNZIPPED games in it.

Once you have all your games Extracted into "Atari 5200 games" folder you can move the folder inside the kat5200 folder.
If you installed into your Program Files, Place in kat5200 folder
C:\Program Files\kat5200

If you installed to your Program Files, It asks you If you want to visit Microsoft site to download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86).

This is needed to run this emulator.
If you downloaded the portable version,
you can find the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
here...http://www.microsoft...ls.aspx?id=5582

Double click vcredist_x86.exe to install.

Now you are ready to start the Emulator.

When the emulator is first ran you will see a window that says..

It appears this is the first use of kat5200. You may use this wizard to perform configuration or press Cancel to exit.

Click the Video Zoom to 2x (1x is way to small)
You can set paths here to your 5200 roms and BIOS or have it scan folders subdirectories from here. Point it to your kat5200 folder and scan.
Or click cancel and do it manually.

There are 5 Categories at top left of emulator when started.

File   Machine   View   Options   Misc

Click "Machine" and a drop down menu will appear. click BIOS Files..
This is where you will set the path to your 5200.rom BIOS FILE and other BIOS Files.
Click Browse and find your 5200.rom and double-click it or highlight and press Load.

Now you are ready to load a game.
Click "File" tab and click "Load ROM"
Now browse to where your Atari 5200 games folder is and double click a game to start it.

Usually F10 starts Games once they are loaded.

You can click the "Options" tab   and click "Input" to adjust controls. You can set your Gamepad Controller buttons here. Takes a bit to figure it out.I just click the buttons on left and click Auto-Detect and then press the corresponding button on controller.

Otherwise the controls are the arrow keys and the fire button is the Enter key on your Numeric Keypad located on the right side of your keyboard. (Not your regular Enter Button)

This emulator also emulates Atari 8-bit computers (800/XL/XE).
You will need the BIOS files placed just like your 5200.rom

Remember to set paths to BIOS for Atari800 BIOS, Atari XL/XE BIOS, Atari Basic Cart BIOS.

If you know where to get M.E.S.S. BIOS files you will find 2 zip files handy.

a800.zip         find atari800.rom inside

a800xl.zip       find atarixl.rom and basic.rom

You will have to find Atari800  and XL 8-Bit games yourself.
Or you can check Toxie's first link in Post #16 in this Topic

To play these you will have to click "Machine" tab and hover your mouse over "System"
This is where you will have to change between Atari 5200 and Atari 8-Bit
Now click "File" tab and click "Load Rom" and browse to your Atari800 games.
You will have to do this to switch back to 5200 games also.

If you have any problems, consult this User's Guide which is also in your Docs folder that came with kat5200 Emulator found here also..
http://kat5200.jilly.../doc/index.html

Hope you enjoy!!

                                                                   ATARI 7800 ProSystem

The Atari 7800 ProSystem, or simply the Atari 7800, is a home video game console officially released by Atari Corporation in 1986. It had simple digital joysticks and was almost fully backward-compatible with the Atari 2600, the first console to have backward compatibility without the use of additional modules. It was considered affordable at a price of US$140.

The 1986 launch is sometimes referred to as a "re-release" or "relaunch" because the Atari 7800 had originally been announced on May 21, 1984, to replace Atari Inc.'s Atari 5200, but a general release was shelved due to the sale of the company. A few units were released to test markets in June 1984 though. However, by 1987 the Nintendo Entertainment System was already dominating the home console market, and the 7800 could not gain a major footprint.

There are a couple of emulators for Atari 7800.
This is the one I use..

                                   ProSystem Emulator
an Atari 7800 ProSystem Emulator on the Windows platform

The ProSystem emulator is a new 7800 emulator It was written in the C/C++ language and uses the Windows API and DirectX to help emulate the display, sound and input.

Find ProSystem v1.3 on this page..
http://www.zophar.ne.../prosystem.html

Here is the Direct Download Link if you can't find download on page.
http://www.zophar.ne...load_file/13195

Find Games here..http://www.atariage....&ItemTypeID=ROM
Some of these may say they are corrupt. Try Unzipping the games with 7Zip and they seem to extract.(Asteroids.zip says corrupt after download but 7Zip extracted Asteroids.a78 out of Zip file.)

Make a folder and name it "Atari 7800 Games".
place all your extracted games into folder.

Now you are ready to start the emulator.
Go into "ProSystem_13" folder and double-click "ProSystem.exe"
This will bring emulator Window up and you will see 3 Categories..

File    Options     Help

To play a game click "File" then click "Open"
Now browse to your Atari 7800 Games folder and click a game. File must end with ".a78"

You can change the size of display screen by clicking "Options" Then click "Display"
I set mine to fullscreen or 2x.

The default Console Controls are..
Reset          F2
Select         F3
Pause          F4
R Difficulty   F5
L Difficulty   F6

The default game controls are..
The arrow keys move Left Right Up Down
Button 1 is x
Button 2 is z

You can change these by clicking "Options" then click "Input" and click "Controller 1"
If you have a gamepad, this is where you will adjust settings to use your gamepad.
(Click arrow on right side where it says "Keyboard" and a dropdown menu will allow you to choose your gamepad that is plugged in.)

No need to find 7800 BIOS to run this emulator.

For more help consult Help File located in same folder as emulator. It will look like yellow question mark. "ProSystem.chm"

Hope you enjoy!!

                                       Atari Lynx

The Atari Lynx is an 8 bit handheld game console that was released by Atari Corporation in October 1989 in North America, and Europe and Japan in 1990. The Lynx holds the distinction of being the world's first handheld electronic game with a color LCD. The system is also notable for its forward-looking features, advanced graphics, and ambidextrous layout. As part of the fourth generation of gaming, the Lynx competed with Nintendo's Game Boy (released just 2 months earlier), the Sega Game Gear and NEC's TurboExpress, both released the following year.

Not many emulators for this.
This is the one I use..

                                     Handy v0.9.5

A Lynx emulator for Windows, with sound and joystick support.

Find Handy v0.9.5 downloads on this page..
http://sourceforge.n...ndy/Handy 0.95/

Direct Download link here..
http://downloads.sou...use_mirror=iweb

The emulator comes with a "Fake" Atari Lynx BIOS file.
You will need to find a real BIOS and replace the other one located in emulator folder.
Check this page..
http://atariage.com/...tion/index.html

Now you will need Games to play.
Check here..http://www.atariage....&ItemTypeID=ROM

Make a folder named "Atari Lynx Games"..Place extracted game files in folder.

Now it's time to start the emulator.
To start emulator, double-click "handy.exe"
When you start emulator a window will pop up allowing you to browse to your Atari Lynx Games.
Just double-click game to start, or highlight game and press "Open"

From the Options tab located in upper-left of emulator, you can adjust screen size and configure to use gamepad and change default control keys.
Default game controls are..
Arrow Keys control Up Down Left Right
Button A   X
Button B   Z

OPT 1      1
OPT 2      2
Pause      Q

Strange a post made by bob78954 a couple of days ago in this topic, saying he had all these old emus and how he loved all the old computers and game systems is now gone?

I even checked the LIKE button on his post. But now it is like it was never there?

Maybe a server reboot?

Anyways, just wanted to let you all know that I will be adding more classic systems to this topic, after I have completed making all 32 NFL Team Graphic Mods.

I would like to cover the Texas Instruments Home Computer TI-99a,

and the Commodore VIC-20 and Commodore 64.

And other older computer systems that are emulated.

Stay Tuned.

Just an update to new links for Handheld Simulators. I noticed the links in first post no longer work because that Handheld Remakes.org site is gone.

So here are a couple of new links to these Handheld Simulators...

Here is link to MADrigal's simulators site...

http://www.madrigald...im/download.php

Key features
* Full compatibility with arcade cabinets
* Fullscreen mode features custom-made FullHD wallpapers.
* Windowed mode available (optional)
* Graphics and sounds are skin-based and can be replaced entirely.
* VFD sprites cast light glows providing a beautiful neon light effect.
* Fully operable via keyboard, mouse and touch screen.
* On-screen menu, key configurator and instructions manual.
* High scores are recorded into the System Registry.

You can download the games individually, or just download the MADrigal CD Collection that includes all 60 games produced by Luca MADrigal Antignano.!!!

This package that has been put together on the CD is amazing!!! He really did a great job!!

The onscreen instruction manuals also are very helpful!!

It is 133MB of great games from the past!!

**************************************************************************************************

And this second link has a 595MB package and other single Handheld Simulators on this page...

http://www.emu-franc...-electroniques/

The 595MB package has all the other Handheld Simulators that are not on MADrigal's site, and are made by other people in the Handheld emulation community.

There are also many manuals included in the package, but they are not built in like MADrigal's.

With these 2 links, you should be able to acquire a great many of these Handheld Simulators to add to your collection!!

(I would say the most complete collection available!!)

I am not an affilliate of either site, but am just passing on these helpful links to help others.

I have not directly linked to any downloads, only the page that has the download links.

If asked, I will remove these links.

Remember....

Emulation is the preservation of history!!!

Have fun!!

Just an update to new links for Handheld Simulators. I noticed the links in first post no longer work because that Handheld Remakes.org site is gone.

So here are a couple of new links to these Handheld Simulators...

Oof.. PN's still in the middle of a troublesome upgrade right now, so... let's rock on to VPF, yeah? :D

Seriously Charles, I wish I had the health & focus to hit all three sites equally, but here's me breaking out of my pathetic pin-sim site cubbyhole once again.  As usual, I think Punxsutawney Phil has me beat. (but bonus pts for hitting Rascal's sometimes?!)

But you know-- the right number of HEADS to fit the situation!

So what do I have to add, today--

LIVE HANDHELD RESOURCES: (pardon any repeats, from above)

https://www.handheldmuseum.com/

https://archive.org/...handheldhistory

http://pica-pic.com/

Also, one of my oldest, fondest projects has been to get an emulation of that loverly Tsukuda pachinko handheld re-created in VPX / FP-BAM / VPE, or even via primitive cardboard cutouts of some kind, but now thanks to YT and such, we have enough media projects to 'gitallerdone,' or however that deep-friend comedian says it.

Mainly needs yon requisite time, focus & energy, which is... not so much me, particularly after two covid ordeals.  Crazy how much that can change things, after only two 'medium-illness' cases.

Btw, I still have Ze Loafmeister's Wildfire handheld game which originally belonged to his dad.  Needless to mention I'm going to burn in a guilty hell if I don't get that back to him, one of these days, oof.

Oddly, while meanwhile being snipped up and baptised a Roman Catholic in my birth country, I'm still not quite sure what "HELL" is anyway, other than the notable set of examples being set by a certain deranged, right-wing nightmare across The States.  Altho perhaps I digress.  (btw, any of y'all in the CLE region?  Want to help me with a package?)

Eh, sod that anyway-- "hell" is just burning scorching guilt, IMO.
...

AANYWAAY... I really do love all the handheld, re-creation, 8-bit, 16-bit classic talk.  Me, I had a few handhelds I was deeply fond of, like the Pac-man one that was shaped like an authentic arcade cabby (you know, same people made a Galaxian one?).  Also, one time my suffering parents bought me the official Dungeons & Dragons electronic boardgame, hooyah!  Like man, that sucker was so...so... cool on the face of it, but was pretty-much the world's most ordinary game, as played, lol.  (seriously, who here has ever heard of Robert Clardy's late-70's "Dungeon Campaign?")

https://www.google.c...d game&tbm=isch

But muvvlefluffle, that ART? (look at the box)  Holy Hecubah, that was incredible!

Oh, but yeah, I also remember a super-cool handheld LCD D&D game, directly inspired by the classic "Hunt the Wumpus" from 8-bit days.  Who remembers THAT, lol?

Yeah, for me it's so much fun to think back about all these times... comparing our little games (arguably pretty terrible in pure gameplay) against how we highly we esteemed them as kids.  But still-- sometimes our 'little kid' / 'primitive 8-bit' fancies produced major gems which led to an enormous, impressive, thriving genre, like Epyx' Rogue, mentioned above.

Now are there some other glorious gaming niches borne of the 8-bit days?  Another one I thought was pretty dang awesome was Intellivision's "Treasures of Tarmin" I think it was.  As an Atari 2600 lad myself, I must say that one stung a bit!

P.S. Oof... I've rambled on once again just a bit too muchly, ungainly so, haven't I?
Oof...

And... a little story:

One time I was sitting in the living room in late Fall, early-mid 90's, Philadelphia.  I was home from work, and was relaxing with a little game I'd received a few years earlier as an Xmas prezzy.

Remember this gem?
https://commons.wiki...ronic_Game).jpg

Man... the display was just a few simple LED's, but the game's logic and game was super-fun!  I mean, wanna talk about nice handhelds?  My GOSH, this game was smoking-hot good, in terms of... 1986, I think?

Anyway, there I was in front of a hot, roaring (artificial gas) fire, blazing up some ceramic logs.  I wasn't complaining in the least, to be clear.

Next thing I know, my buddy's GF appears, and sits down uncomfortably close to me on the couch.  She asked what I was doing, so I showed her my game, carefully so as not to lose my turn.  Then she burst in to tears, and that's when it just sort of hit me-- I've wasted SO much of my life on dumbass games and such, much of that with the specific intent to AVOID other people.

Also... women!  What to do, what to say?  How to think?
Yeah-yeah, it's a far different story these days, but yon's a different fairy tale, at least for tonight.  Hope you enjoyed! :)
