Hello again,
well i think I may finally be on the right track. Here is the text file for Pennant Fever. I was able to delete the zipped table, redownload another zipped table, unzip it, create the new table through through GameManager and loaded it up through the wheel. Surprisingly enough it worked! The table loaded up with the animated BG Hurrah!!
I tried doing this to some more tables and was successful with Mediveal Madness.......when I tried to do this with Elvis now all the music and sounds come from the Flipper Fidelity speakers. Nothing comes from the BG speakers. Is there a setting that I can change to correct this.
Thanks alot for all of your help.....could not of done this on my own....not in a million years. :)

I think the only way to solve this one is to go into VP, load up the table, go into sound manager - click on the files / sounds that you want to come from the BG speakers and click "To BG out". This is a feature that many including myself dont use, so I never notice it.

Sounds like great advice........I loaded up the game but cannot find where sound manager is located. I thought it was one of the F keys but apparently not? Can you steer me to it?
Thank you

Open the table in VP (not pinballx) then Table->Sound Manager (select sounds you want to go to bg speakers (using ctrl to multiselect, then select "TO BG OUT". The path should change to say like *BG* or something like that.

Weird that this would be the only table that you would see this - I dont normally see BG in the sounds for most tables and was only recently made aware of this option.

Double check Preferences->Audio Options - and be sure those are pointing to the right drivers as well.

Thanks very much.....I actually have maybe ten or so tables that play all the sounds through the reel sound speakers and need that to be changed. It all sounds terrible coming from those speakers.

On a side note I haven't been able to get a single tables BG to animate through the wheel now since yesterday. I'm convinced it's not named correctly again as I checked in logs and continue to see the .zip extension. Yet I'm doing exactly the same thing. I believe the files are all unzipped correctly......but obviously something is amiss
I have to go back later this evening and re-read your postings. I continue to make the same errors and expect a different result.

Download the rom But do not unzip and put it in the roms folder inside the VPinMame Folder..

Download the Game, Backglass and whatever Media files you want then - unzip all of them and rename all the files to the the same name...Right click the file click on rename copy the name and then I make them all the same that way you won't accidentally type in something Weird and not realize it..

Then put all the files in the appropriate folders..

Then go into pinballX Game Manager and find the game and then find the information about the game by clicking on the 2 select buttons

-

Make sure the files are not Block after you unzip them

  • Right click the file and select Properties in the context menu.
  • Select the General tab in the properties window.
  • If you find the text _"This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer" or somthing similar on this tab, click the Unblock button. This should fix the issue.

-

As for the sound settings I never had no problem... make sure its setup right in windows and then in VP go in preferences, audio and you can set up the two sound sources

Thanks for the advice Outhere.....I will certainly give that a shot cause whatever I'm doing now isn't working. I'll report back with my results.

The sound issue is odd.. Maybe ten tables in all play this way.....with all sounds coming from the flipper speakers.
I fooled around in Preferences making settings changes thinking they were game specific only to find out they were global.
Had to go back and change things the way the were......but that only results in those games playing all their sound through the flipper speakers again.
Like Allknowing said above you can go into Preferences\Tables and send different sounds to the BG speakers but wouldn't know which sounds to start with. There are literally over 100 different sounds there.
Would a different Rom be worth a try?

Rom isnt likely to make a difference. Can you post some specifics? like what game and what sounds you want moved?

(perhaps start a new thread on this topic??)

Well.....I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. Daylight dawns in the swamp. :)

During the renaming process I was copying the .B2S file extension along with the game name.
Copying the extension is a big no-no apparently. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why when tables were renamed they always came up in some sort of a error loading that table
I read that you could rename them anything as long as they were the same.....not so it seems. When I copied the B2S file name along with the extension .B2S and pasted it to the game name .vpt file, I was creating my problem.
So lesson learned and for anyone else struggling with, this let me just say as clearly as I can, when copying the B2S file name, only copy to the left of the extension and paste that to the .vpt table file. Don't forget to make the necessary script changes as well.
It's so simple once you do one or two and yet it was so difficult for me to get to that point.
I've come so far in the past week, yet I have a long way to go.......

Now on to my latest challenge and yes Allknowing, a new thread topic is in order and I will do this this evening . :)

Briefly, my Elvis table which I've downloaded yesterday has both the game( music, speech etc) and the flipper, (bumper etc sounds )coming out of the flipper and bumper sound effect speakers which are located inside the cabinet . I have a VirtuaPin which has the Reel Sounds speaker system. No sound at all comes from the BG speakers, which is where you'd like the music and speech etc to come from. I have maybe ten tables that do this.
As I mentioned above, I made some changes in VP\Preferences which ended up to be global changes which didn't work out so well for
me. So I had to change it back.
If you go into VP\Tables there are literally tons of sound choices you can send to the BG speakers. That's what I want to do however I have no idea what files to select to the BG speakers.
There must me an easier way.....a different ROM perhaps? Don't really know why this table downloads this way. Maybe there is another table choice I could try?

Thanks to everybody who offered their suggestions, support and sticking with me till I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong.
A big hat tip to Allknowing! A million thanks to you all.
These animated backglasses add so much extra to the game.......just a little extra eye candy!
Very sweet indeed!

Elvis has some interesting notes in the download release notes:

Instead of listing all the changes I'll describe the 3 ways to use the sound in this table:

1.- Using only the ROM (the default)
2.- Using only the samples
3.- Using the samples and the ROM sound, but the volume of th ROM is 0.

How to:

1.- Using the ROM
The table is adjusted to use the rom sound, but you need a fast computer.

2.- Using the samples
If your computer is old you will hear distorted rom sounds and you'll need to do turn off the rom sound:

Go to line 62
.Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("sound") = 1
and change 1 to 0:
.Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("sound") = 0

Go to line 50
' Set MotorCallback = GetRef("TrackSounds")
and remove the ':
Set MotorCallback = GetRef("TrackSounds")

Save the table
Now the table will use the rom samples. The only problem is that Elvis will not dance, since it seems it is activated by the rom when playing some sounds, and rememebr you just turned off the rom sounds smile.gif

3.- Using samples and rom sound on together.
There is a third option if your computer is neither old but not very fast either. The option consist in using the samples for the sound (as in option 2), but at the same time the rom sound is turned on, but the sound volume of the rom is turned down.

This is:
You set the line 50 to track the sounds:
Set MotorCallback = GetRef("TrackSounds")

but line 62 is:
.Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("sound") = 1

this is the ROM is turned on. Now you need to run the table and to press the 9 key until the rom sound is completely off.

===============

Have you pressed 8 and/or 9 to increase the volume of the rom sounds? I wonder if you are hearing the samples or the rom sounds.

I believe you turn off the samples (a global setting) - try it and reverse it if need be ..

right click on the dmd, click Game settings,(this is your vpinmame defaults for all games), there is a checkbox for "Use Samples". Try unchecking that .. click ok, now press F3 to reset/restart the backglass/vpinmame program,

see what that does for this game.

Elvis VP912 FS 2.0.0

in VP 9.x.x Cabinet Tables

Allknowing...I did see and read those notes too, though I didnt try to make any of those settings changes yet....getting a little gun shy here after my earlier sound setting changes didn't go so well. Here is the table I've been trying to use. My cabinet in only 3 months old.

When I first brought it home this is one of the games that Paul from VirtuaPin helped me set up and it worked perfectly right up until

I tried animating backglasses. I suspect that I probably deleted it somewhere along the way but figured it'd be no problem to go and get

another download. I remember playing this and Elvis did all his dancing etc. Love it! Big fan, so it is imperative to get this table running properly again. I'm going to say that I have ample  horsepower  to run it with everything turned on because I did play it that way earlier.

I've played around with the volume up and down keys on the keyboard....would they have the same effect as the 8 and 9 key?

How can you tell the difference between sample and ROM sounds?

You say to right click on the DMD...do you mean drag the cursor over to the DMD like you would do to right click on the BG?

After the game was launched via Pinball X ,if I hit F1 I get the option box with a choice of sound or samples I believe.....I havent turned it off for this game yet but did try that on Ripleys Believe It or Not table which is another table that I have that has the sound behave the same way. Turning samples off here had no effect either.....though I dont recall pressing F3 to restart. I'll try those things and report back..

Thanks for the suggestions!

what version of VP are you using?

Is there any particular reason why you're using such an old version of the Elvis game ?

I'm believe I'm using 9.2. Where does one go to find the specifics?
So much to learn. I remember Paul telling me to look for tables like 9.2.1. ( If memory serves me correctly)
No particular reason why I'm downloading that table other than I've really enjoyed that table authors work.
Might you suggest another table or should I just go ahead and try another?

That explains why you're picking out the older game, the newer versions of that game will probably not run with 9.21

As the release notes mention you can swap between the rom sounds and samples (saved in the sound manager of the game)

you will find the same setup on

Elvis, LOTR (lord of the rings), Sopranos, Ripley's Believe it or Not

If you are using the rom you need to press the 'END' key and then use 8 and 9 to adjust the sound up and down and when finished press END again

If you are using the samples, because rom sound is crackly or stutters you need to open the sound manager and you will find a long list of sounds labelled like ABC1 well ok, not that exact name, but when you look it is obvious.  click on the first one, scroll down to the last one, hold shift and click on the last one, which selects from your first to last, then press the To BG OUT button

You then have to save the table, close it and re-open it.  This will send the sample sounds to the backglass speakers

Thanks for the advice !
I did highlight all the table sounds like you suggested and then clicked" send to BG", I then clicked "OK" and then reset the table and found that there was no difference in where the sounds went.
In re-reading your reply you say"you then have to save the table, close it and re-open it"
By saving the table.....how is that done.......maybe that's a step that needs to be done yet?
Right click perhaps ?
This change is table specific right? It won't affect any other table by doing this and yes your right all of the other games you mention are set up this way for me as well. I'd love to get them sounding right as they are painful to listen to as they are currently configured.

Changes to the sound manager are for this game only, yes. Choose File - Save to save your updates. You dont *need* to save it to test the changes. In this case once you toggle to bg out, when you play it, those changes would be in effect.

If that didnt work then I am at a loss as to what could be the issue.
