can you post a SS of your recommended DIP settings, in case people don't want to mess with the nvram file business?

Of course this is personal preference, but this is what I like.
For those unfamiliar, Hit F6, make your selections, click ok and reload the game.

It is updated with the timer. v1.42. Of course, no need for anybody to download this if you already have v1.4.1. Just add the timer like LTA said above, or download this version... either way.

There is still a little problem... the timer is called LedsTimer when it should only be Leds... tongue.gif
Easy to fix but this little typo prevents UVP from working.

Great table btw... thanks a lot. Not an easy one to play, that's for sure.
I changed the UVP to use 7 digits so it works with the mysticb ROM.

One thing I have never seen before is the appearance of the ball... it is as if the ball wasn't made of steel but somehow translucent... gives a sort of 'ethereal' feeling to it. You could even call it mystic, heh biggrin.gif
I wonder: is this how it looks on the real machine too?

Sure, though just to be safe I'd still recommend using the nvram just to ensure you have the same setup I was using. This should be fine though. Also keep in mind that you don't need to update the nvram every time there is an update. Or if I did update the nvram I'd mention it. Like right now! I just updated the nvram for this 1.43 fix so that the default would be set to 6 digit to match the UVP.
So usually, once you copy over the nvram 1 time, you don't need to worry about it again.
The screenshot shows the settings recommended by Bally, though you can set the credits to whatever you want & it won't affect the gameplay obviously. Also, the only difference between these & recommended Bally defaults is that I'm using "extra ball" mode.
The reason for that is simple, well 2 reasons. The game is pretty tough, so 3 ball + extra ball mode makes sense. Also, those replay credits are useless in VPM. Replay mode is what you'd likely see in arcades though, so if you want to choose that, it could be more challenging. & novelty mode might get you more points, but quicker games.

Fixed in v1.43 just uploaded. Go figure there are issues with the UVP stuff the 1 time I don't have a spare monitor here to test UVP stuff, & so I just have to put it in & hope it works

You know, I just realized that the 7 digit rom can also do 6 digits. Just go into the dip menu & change it. Thus, not really any need for anybody to use the 6 digit rom.

I wonder: is this how it looks on the real machine too?

Depends on the lighting I suppose, just as the way any pinball looks depends on lighting. It is impossible to get a perfect looking ball in VP due to no real time reflections. The ball image I used is one of my favorites, seems to work with the table, & the faux transparency seems to work well on it. Other tables use similar looking balls, & I created this ball based on an existing ball image. Might be based off a Lord Hiryu ball or maybe from a JPsalas table.
There are a few different ball images to choose from. But IMHO this is one of the more realistic looking balls out there. Though again, keep in mind that a perfect looking ball is impossible. & there is also no such thing as a perfect static ball image since all pinballs look different depending on table, lighting, etc. So it is a pretty arbitrary thing, but I like this one, though I almost equally like 1 or 2 of the others I think I included.

You haven't come across a translucent ball image before? I've been using them for many years, even long before alpha transparency with the dot based transparency. But surely a number of other tables/authors use this same technique on many tables. I'm pretty sure I see it pretty often, at least on desktop tables. Though this ball image might have a bit more of it than others. But I like it, I think it works. Its the lesser of all the evils, since I'm never happy with any image:)

Not sure what to tell you there. Try the v1.43 I just uploaded, maybe it will help as I made a couple changes. Fixed the timer & set the commended out .hidden line to = 1. Though that shouldn't be causing errors. & if you renamed the timer, then that shouldn't be an issue either. If everybody else is getting it to work then I'm not sure what your problem might be.
Does the syntax error tell you which line the issue is on or give you any more info?

Also I want to stress again that the 6 digit rom is still not needed here & that the 7 digit rom can do 6 digits, just set it in the dip.

I really do like the ball images you included Rob046. I've seen transparent ones before, but they always used black or white as the transparency color. I'm not sure if it makes a difference that yours use gray, but, that was how I knew I'd never seen them before.

My ball preference was not default ball, but, the other one you included that showed just a wee bit less transparency. In fact I like it so much I'm probably going to use it on a number of other tables.

Thanks for this great table, I agree that the 1.41 update felt a little better, but, I passed out before posting my feedback.

Most definitely other tables have been using this same technique on the ball. Ever since VP911 which included the alpha support. Transparency color makes no difference at all, & in this case, I'm not even using a grey transparency. That is just the value to use to attain transparency on a PNG image. Any alpha ramp or other alpha texture you see in most tables should have that same setting. Its really nothing new.

With the couple other ball images, I believe those are the same way. Like I said I still have a hard time choosing which to use so I just go on a table by table basis. What I'd like to do is post those few, or more, ball images & start a poll on which people think is best.
Glad you think 1.41 is a little better feeling, that is what I thought too but I'd like to know if anybody thinks otherwise. However, at this point I'm wondering if even enough people got to grab 1.4 before I updated! I might have to get feedback on this in the desktop thread where the prior physics were released for much longer.

still says Syntex error line 50

which is

Sub table1_Init

in the script.

UVP does not work for me. Maybe I Dl'd the wrong UVP?

I changed the name of the bg and UVP file to Mystic

instead of UVP mystic, if that matters.

I wish I used UVP, & ATM I don't even have my 2nd monitor up & running to test it. So I'm really not much help. I think there is only 1 UVP to download, so I don't think you can screw that part up. Renaming the UVP could cause problems unless you change it in your XML file too.
Hopefully somebody can come along here who is more familiar with UVP & has this one working properly on their setup that can help you.
& if there is something wrong with the table or code, I'd definitely like to know about it as well, but so far it looks like you might be the only 1 with this issue?

my wheel, backglass, UVP files, table file are all renamed Mystic, so my XML file is ok. I got this error with all 3 versions of your table. Even when I manually installed the UVP, which I usually don't have a problem with. There is something that is conflicting with the UVP system in that initiate section.

works fine without UVP, but I would like to get it to work.

How do I get the manual plunger to animate with the plunger? Is that an easy task that I can change? or ? I clicked the use mechanical plunger box, and it works, just visually it doesn't.

The uvp filename must match the backglass filename and the visual pinball.xml entry

Like this:

uvp filename: Mystic UVP.uvp
backglass: Mystic UVP.png

visual pinball.xml entry

<game name="Mystic_VP912_rob046_FS_v1.41">
<description>Mystic UVP</description>
<manufacturer>Bally</manufacturer>
<year>1979</year>
<type>SS</type>
</game>

then of course you need a table image: Mystic UVP.png
and a wheel image Mystic UVP.png

Thats it.
