love the amount of skill that goes into creating that style of artwork i think it takes far more skill to create original dmd artwork then all the new 3d stuff.

piece of cake! biggrin.gif

it is very easy to create art for something like the dmd. but still, Stern is just throwing video footage of the movies into the dmd! it looks horrible.
the way the dmd is being used by pin manufactures i see no reason why we should continue with the dmd...

i miss the 90's dmd animations. art made specially for it.. and it worked.

anyway i say lets move forward.. go LCD! biggrin.gif

Sorry i ment the original DMD art work on the pre 1996 machines. I agree some if these new converted video animations with no touch up is nasty.

being easy art to make i was refering to those pre 1996 dmd animations. it is very easy and the result is awesome.
the stern movie based animations was another point.
my bad mixed it all up wink.gif

even for cool dmd animations to be made, i would go for lcd. you have way more options smile.gif

Personally I think that if they go LCD they'll try to get clever and the display will end up a busy mess that confuses the player and is really uninteresting to the observer. Having seen videos of WOZ in action just reinforces my opinion on that.

LCD setup like a DMD or Super DMD is ok full screen LCD to much.

i put an lcd cheapest way to go and i think it looks fine. a virtual pinball table will never be a real machine so why limit it to a real dmd. a used 17 inch lcd will cost you 15 bucks real dmd 300 i think.

Hell yes!

Move forward. As long as the artwork is good (color makes it better) and display is bright enough ( good contrast and black levels aka. IPS displays) it's better. Maybe the new OLED tech will be better for these displays. Personally, I think the 3D is way more impressive than anything else right now and nobody cares.

Bummer!!

DMD... to me LCD is to DMD what photo(shop) playfield artwork is to drawn artwork.
of course LCD can show nicer animations but I sort of like the look and limitations of a DMD...

LCD could probably be better BUT it probably required a whole lot of extra work to get it to look really good compared to a DMD and I guess the extra manpower might not be within the given budget so I fear we will be getting sub-par animations just because they need to be done with limited resources - so unless the LCD is utilized properly and not just showing movie cut-scenes with cheap overlaid 3D-extruded text I'd prefer a classic DMD.

Odd this says it is a new post?
From 2014?

Oh well, since i clicked

real DMD, if i was making a cab, means i have to figure out how to shove 4 screens into it

the real DMD can only display certain things.

From 2014 to now, a lot has changed as to how a real DMD image will look on an LCD

boa noite a todos! e concordo com os amigos que dizem que temos que evoluir! vamos em frente com LCD e outros novos,

o DMD foi muito bom na sua época! e como foi mencionado essa parte é somente pra ver animação mesmo.
