I prefer the day tables. But when a night mod is done right I love the light show. So I guess I like a happy medium too.

I enjoy both! But preference is on the dark side. Many dark gamerooms growing up and bars!
hahahahah
Just love it all..from all the different types that come out!
They just get better and better!
Thanks to all :}

Would love to see that Totan Dark Side mod come together!
That will be a stupendous lightshow for sure!

I like both when done right, although I prefer day. I don't like it so dark you can't see the ball, Scapino's Count Down is is this category for me. Beautiful table, can't always follow the ball with the shadow on it.
The slider would make a nice idea for VP10, no? whistle.gif

To be honest. I understand wanting a brighter table for a fs version as you can see more of the art throughout the whole table. But to me on the desktop view, anything past mid playfiel is not that clear anyways, even using larger textures

I think the answer to this is easy. It simply depends. Some tables just look amazing in the dark yet you can still follow the ball (I'm talking about real life, since in VP the ball doesn't change shades & lose visibility). I always site ToM as the ultimate dark room pinball. Its lighting & theme fits it. For whatever reason I find most of the better night tables to be 90's BLY/WMS. Newer Sterns I'd prefer in the day, same with most 70's tables, then 80's tables are hit or miss. Might just be the way the art & lighting is done.
Then there are some tables that look good at night, but are hard to play, might be places where you lose the ball due to lack of lighting. This can be tough especially on fast playing games.

So for me, in some cases I'd like to see 2 versions of a release, night & day.
For the most part though I'd agree with Noah in finding a happy medium. I know for my own pins that is kinda how I do it. I never play my games dark enough to where lighting effects really "pop" on the PF like they often do in VP night tables, but enough to where you can get the plastics to glow a bit.

Got to agree TOTAN was made to be played in the dark.
I like the night mods that have been done by UW, but also some tables as said really play best in normal lighting.

I remember some arcade operators used to always seem to use low wattage bulbs around their EM tables as a kid, and it always made for harder games - used to get round it by playing the tables in the daytime biggrin.gif

i preferred dark when i was playing desktop tables only. darker was better

but when i started playing in a cab i found that very dark tables are not very visible when you look at cab from above, so for a cab i prefer bright tables - but i like to play them in dark room

I'm not a big fan of the more recent night mods. All the real pins I play (mine, and on location) are in pretty well lit locations.
I like being able to see the playfield art. As an example, compare Doctor Who, Pacdude's original
version with UW's at night version (sorry dude) and UW's doesn't look that great.

But that's just my opinion. If I play my real Indiana Jones with the ceiling lights off, it's a bit harder to play as well. I have to turn
the lights back on so it's not like I'm playing as a one armed chimp with a blindfold on. smile.gif

Dr who is oooplayer1ooo's table.
And honestly photoshop and gimp can brighten any table by adjusting the exposure on 4 textures.

To each his own. My tables will still be on the darker side just maybe release them on my own web site and let the day time people release there's here since that seems to be the general consensus, that the people here prefer day time high noon tables
