I believe 32assassin meant to say upgrade to at least VP9 to be able to rotate your tables from desktop to FS view.

As far as I know, there are no VP8 FS Cabinet tables.

Also, most VP8 tables were made before widescreen monitors were being used substantially.

So anything made for Visual Pinball 1 through 7 are either Wide Screen or Spanned using older programs to work on a cabinet, have I got that right?

you are confusing or turning specific terms into generic terms.

their are only 2 orientations you can set your tables too

( 3 if you count Portrait windows environment  but thats another for m of Full Screen)

Desktop (DT) =  any "wide screen" , 4x3, or  landscape oriented monitor

Fulls Screen (FS) = cabinet oriented view

Spanned = as I mentioned this need a specific front end to be viewed in the correct FS +  the backglass in the correct monitor.

nobody!!!! is using this with modern day front ends.  and they don't exist for Visual Pinball 1-7.

Unless you are running a windows 95, windows 98   PC

you are better of deleting every single!!!  VP 1-7 table because you will probably not be able to rotate your tables to FS in any of the VP1-7 exes.

those tables will either error out on VP8.exe   and VP9.exe.   or look like complete crap compared to a VP9 or VPX versions.

I do still run VP6 on Win98SE, and I wrote 2 very complex emulated EM tables on it.

Unfortunately VP6 from 2002 contains a shareware timer that has expired, and even the proclaimed fixed exe from 2004 (vpinballexetb61.zip) apparently expired too. I fortunately found out that the editor mode can still load and run games by pressing F5, but clicking on a vpt file only shows the expiration error.

- Is VP8 fully compatible with VP6 tables?

I still have >440 downloaded VP6 pinball games and want to make them playable again. On the old 550MHz CPU some PinMAME stuff ran slow; and I also circumvented a multiball slowdown bug by making a patch rattling those tables to keep balls moving. So it would be best to install them now on the modern mainboard of my dual-PC case if this is possible. But already on Win98SE the background text positions of my games shift when played at 1280*1024 instead of the original 1024*768, so I worry it will mess up.

Some VP6 tables will run fine in VP8, while others will not display correctly.

also the ball size was changed around that time messing up some tables as well.

Can't believe it's been almost 20 years already. I remember the amazement and excitement of these early tables! Dream come true feeling, because only years of memories and reflection of fun playing them.

Vp6 was the starting point for me..rotated tables to vertical monitors using pivot pro or irotate or similar programs to rotate the playfield monitor.., nvidia drivers not working at all in portrait mode...ati graphics cards with problems (so today)...
People working in programs which showed the backglass i remember the first scared stiff animated and working backglass..ultravp??
Abother guy repositioning reels and decals..
Most people knew perfectly the possibilities vp could bring today (leds, motors, solenoids, etc).
Was amazing time but i never imagine the open and free hobby its today...so many people working like a company building hundreds and hundreds tables with spectacular results.
The pup.packs.the vr..etc i never imagine vp going that direction so far..
And future pinball today its amazing...i remember installing fp in 2009 and quit the program as soon as i watched the physics and the ball movement

Vp7 was only for desktop mode..no portrait and vp8 and the beginning of the vp9's was hard
times..not only the graphics cards/drivers and the hardware render.option in vp...

So many memories..vp its for me...the kind of things people are able to do in time..and it's hard to explain..

Do you remember when jp or anybody else launched a table like flinstones or medieval madness etc etc??
I remember the one from tipoto terminator 2 chrome edition

The ball size changed from vp9 7 version i think...most of the tables the ball was bigger than rails or holes...

In vp9.7 you must know a single processor and a bad graphics card make your own misstake facing vp
