Post your pbxrecorder log file. Also post how your displays are setup in Window. Are they left to right top aligned or something else?

the 4480 is a combined measurement of monitor 1 monitor 2 and monitor 3 (If you have 3)

Problem is 1920 + 3480 is 5400

Now, on the other hand 1920 + 2560 is 4480 and 2560 is 2K

So i guess my question is, where on earth is PBX Recorder getting the 2K screen rez info from?

With PBX Recorder comes with a copy of the AHK file itself, pbxrecorder.exe is just a compiled version of that.
You could actually edit it and recompile it as a new version.

Anything in there that pertains to 2K ?

Did you ever, at any time, have a 2K monitor on this setup?

edit again

i looked at the ahk file for the 1.9 version of pbx recorder
It does in fact seem to be grabbing monitor info from windows registry
Windows is bad about leaving OLD monitor entries in the registry, in really funky order, can confuse the hell out of other apps.
So i am wondering if maybe you had a 2K screen installed at some point and it is finding its values from the registry?

If so, easy fix, delete monitors from registry, reboot and plug them back in one at a time

Ι didn't have a 2K monitor but i did use DSR at some point (downsampling higher resolutions at 1080p for better antialiasing). So maybe that's the issue. Thanks for the info.

Screens are aligned correctly otherwise.

I,m getting an error when i try to record backglass media on pbx. Looking at the log file i see this line on every table the pbx didn't record.

"Error with backglasss video "24 (Stern 2009)" maybe uncheck audio config"

Pbx record the playfield correctly. This is only happening when i´m trying to record Backglass and/or DMD video.

I'm wondering why, as long as pbx has been working fine for several weeks. My monitors are aligned on top an settled left to right.

Thanks in advance

Since it does not record audio, especially from the backglass, i wonder why it is giving that kind of error?

OK so this used to work great and a while back, it just started generating the error stating the xml file was not found. attached log file and ini. any suggestions? The built in record function is not working either. it just records a bad mp4 that can't be opened. I may tried re-installing the lav codecs but no luck. per below log file info, you can see that it found 0 vp systems despite vp being enabled in pbx settings.

You could always download PinballY, and use that to record with. Might even enjoy the frontend and it should be able to pick up your already existing xml files, and record them to your PBX location if you so choose. The only problem I've had with recording from PBY is for pup-packs. But, then I can just use popper to record with.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Log file looks wrong to me, pbx recorder is pointing at C:\Pinball\PinballX\Databases\Visual Pinball , that should probably be C:\Pinball\PinballX . Start pbx recorder again and change the Pinballx path

omg I struggled with this for a long time and this is the first time anyone told me the path was wrong. I would have thought you would need to point to the folder where the DB is but I guess not.j

However, it did run but the video does not play and in pbx it shows black. I have the lav codecs installed. is there a setting in there I should be aware of? I recorded in f4v. What program will run this? Would like the thumbnails to work too. also tried mp4 but still blank.

this is my latest recorder log:

VLC should be able to open the files.

If the recording are ok but not playing in PinballX try setting LAV config as https://www.gameex.i...&comment=178455

If the recordings are invalid then it may relate to the version of ffmpeg being used, try the version that comes with pbx recorder https://www.vpforums...&showfile=11913

If still no luck try recording dmd images in pbx recorder rather than videos. Does that work?

Here is a quick version for Desktop Mode users.  It's hardcoded to 1920x1080 monitor.  Playfield media is saved to \Playfield Images and \Playfield Videos folders.  Let me know if ithey need to be in \Playfield Images Desktop and \Playfield Videos Desktop folders, as I don't have a PinballX desktop mode setup

Just drop this exe in the PBX Recorder folder and run it.

Hi all. I have finally upgraded to a 4K playfield and plan to use this awesome tool again to re-record my playfield vids in 4K.

Wondering are there any quality or size settings somewhere in PBX?

I just did a quick record of 10 tables and the vids look amazing but there is a fair amount of lag when jumping from table to table in PinballX.

Hoping there's a way to tweak the recording process to help this. With some reduction in video quality I imagine.

Thanks

Not sure how you created the videos.
I create them via pbx it self. With mvidia capture on 4k and code the via pbx. Not too long videos, and dony have lag.
Maybe also depends on your system hardware?.

Thanks Mike I didn't realize there was a built-in recorder. I could try that.

Where do you make those settings?

Not at home to try this, but search for this section in the ahk script  "Convert Videos to .f4v/.mp4"

In that section you will see 3 ffmpeg conversions for playfield, bg and dmd mkv files. try adding the scale option to the command line:     -s 1920x1080

Can someone tell me where this ahk script is? I think this is the setting I'm looking.

Thanks

If you are happy with the ahk, dont go another route and stick to it. Otherwise use the pinballx 'internall' recorder.

Thanks for testing.  I always assumed that PinballX expects Media to be named after the Description, not Game Name.  It turns out PinballX actually supports both - It first looks for media named after Game name and second based on Description.

Just getting back to my cab (after a couple years lol) .. The mp4 generated do not render correctly in windows thumbnails. Seems the codec of yuv444p is too new? It suggests in the ffmpeg debug to use yuv420p.
Is that somehow an option that I can set in pbxrecorder.exe .. or so I just hack the .ahk file and run that?

(other less clean options are to convert all the .mp4 vids but that will be a PITA)

Update: I see reference to newer pbxrecorder -- I will double check my version and update if needed.

Solved:  Ver1.9 is on another site that addresses this yuv420p requirement.

Run into problems with this recorder which I use for years (great tool), found a solution and thought I'd share it so it might save you some headache and grey hairs....

Your setup might run fine but if you run into the same problem....here's the solution.

Running latest version PBXrecorder 1.6.

Symptoms:
Coming from a perfectly working system I updated my BackGlass server to the latest atm (1.4.1) to make these new backglasses with full dmd work.

Those new BF with DMD worked but later on, when adding a new table I wanted to record PF and BG this:

- PBX recorder started

- Select the VPX table I want to record
- Press ok
- PBX recorder starts up, loads the table and runs it, all like normal but then:
- it closes the table just after a few seconds and not the normal 30sec (as I selected in the PBXrec setup menu
- No ffmpeg windows are being opened but\

- PBXrecorder comes up with a window all was captured fine.

However.....nothing was recorded at all (as you could tell by the misseing ffmpeg windows) and when running PBX itself the table video and BG video are not ther.

Cause:
the new screenres.txt file

Solution:
In the new screenres.txt file there are a lot of # comment   lines. Text preceeded with a #, like:

# Playfield Screen resolution width/height
3840
2160
# Backglass Screen resolution width/height
1920
1080
# Define Backglass using Display Devicename screen number (\\.\DISPLAY)x or screen coordinates (@x) or screen index (=x)
2

(the file is longer but just as an example).

Now: --> delete all the lines with the preceeding #.   Make sure your window is wide enough so you can clearly see where the #line ends end where a new line starts.

The new file looks like this: (again: file is longer but just as an example):

3840
2160
1920
1080
2

Save this file as screenres.txt (you made a copy of the original before...didn't you??? :-) )  and you'll see that PBXrecorder works again!

And....also the new BGserver with the new BG dmd option works fine as well.....

That's it....enjoy!
