I know this might sound petty and lazy, but can you add 2 folders to the VPX All-In-One Installer?

Can you add altsound and altcolor folders to the VPinMAME folder?

Might help beginners.

Thanks for all you guys do!!

It is appreciated!!

Carry on.

Also, can you move all the text files and JP physics files to .\Docs folder
so the root folder isnt so cluttered?

EXE, DLL, LOG, Uninstall link (and mister autosave) makes for a cleaner root folder

I should probably poke this in the github

Good question. I don't think it is nVidia  - directly, but, might be a combination of sorts. Seen this guy having this issue with a nVidia GPU 1060, upgrading windows from 10 to 11 has resolved it for him. So, right now it seems more like that some people are getting this issue if they are on Win10 H1H2 19044.2006. I'm sure that there are many that are on this Win-ver, so, it has to be something else too ?! I'm on nVidia 516.59.

Ok just another point of reference here- I'm on win 10- my pc is ineligible according to MS for the win 11 upgrade and that's fine by me because everything has been working great. I also have an nvidia 1060 6gb and get no disappearing elements problems. I'm using 10.7.2 rev 285, vpinmame 3.5 sep 6 2022. I have geforce experience in my system tray but I only use it for driver updates- NOT to launch or profile games.

I've upgraded pinmame from 3.4 to 3.5 and now rev. 285 opens sometimes, something like 20% of attempts, better than with pinmame 3.4 when it wasn't showing up at all.

Is it possible to add a feature to stretch this side bar to increase the size of the texture?

Does anyone else have this issue with opening Williams tables? It happens regularly when i try to launch a table. You can always make it launch if you just close it and try to start it again. It does it with ALL WIlliams tables. Sometimes it will happen a few launches in a row, other times you can launch the table 5-6 times before it pops up again. I don't have to change anything at all between launches from when it does and doesn't work. I'm using the latest release from Github, but this issue has been with me for the past 6 months at least over every version of VPX i have used. It happens across 2 completely separate computers, both were setup individually from the all in one installer and then the latest release dropped over the top. Only happens with Williams tables. I would love to troubleshoot this more, is there a more advanced debug log i can enable to try and troubleshoot? Drives me crazy as i have to keep grabbing my mouse and keyboard to get past it on my cabinet.
It's almost like it's some sort of race condition... or something... it's strange, because you don't have to do anything to fix it. Just try to run again and it will load the table eventually. I've tried every fix i can find online for this, nothing works. Permissions are all set full permission, on scripts, tables etc. It's a very basic install on a pc, no fancy cabinet parts, just a pc with a single monitor basically.

Currently using 10.7.2 281 but i've used many versions before it and they all had the same issue. Windows 10, latest updates. Tried full reinstall several times with completely fresh setup, deleting all old software... this issue persists.

So, the newest in this thread. Like any release since 166, hangs on my end. The latest maybe more often than any I can remember. But, well, I'm not going to make a very accurate measurement of this fact. What I did just now however was to download the very latest code (2 days old) from github and compiled the exe myself.

This one I ran over 70 times in a row without ANY hangs.

What is the difference ? Compile on my machine of course - vc2019, no upx crap which breaks pinmame I should add ...

If anyone trusts my exe for not being infected by virus - what about giving this one a try and see if it is any better for you ?

YES, the file is much larger than the release that you normally see. This is because it is NOT compressed like the official. Someone is bound to answer that question I guess.

https://www.dropbox....nballX.exe?dl=0

After 2 weeks of using this EXE It's suddenly doing The same thing that the beta 10.7.2  r277 is doing
-

I double clicking the EXE and it will not load
If it's a hit-or-miss
I have to use a task manager to kill it off

What ? That is really interesting. Now I'm beginning to believe that there is registry setting or something odd that is the culprit.

Update: No, it is not VP registry keys related at least. Deleted them all, can reproduce a clear change in between 166 and 167 build. Damn, was hoping we where getting somewhere.

I've uploaded 285 now, nothing really special in functionality between previous 283 and now 285, the last commit of code for 9 days ago. But, well, since you have a hang situation, maybe just try it for giggles and see if it changes anything. I don't see how it could, but, well, this is a very odd problem already so who knows. Maybe a good idea to rename the problematic to 283.exe or something, so you can go back and forth testing IF for some odd reason this new one is working better.

Do you know if anyone with an AMD graphics card
Or just a generic laptop etc with just intel graphics is having this issue?

I am wondering of somehow we are getting some kind of obscure hissy fit with nvidia driver or software or something?

I might be totally off base, but i cant reproduce the issue, on a number of machines
but all have amd or intel graphics, i dont have any nvidia GPU's to try, not even an old one.

Best i could do was a voodoo 5, and well, it AINT optimal to say the least
but it wont hang

No, I can't recall seeing anyone else than nVidia users, but, then again, not someone else than Win10 either :)

The Nvidia Experience suggestion, even though it isn't accurate to the problem, might be on to something - by chance.

Here though, have not had a single issue with my own builds, but, maybe I haven't fired that puppy up enough times ? Been sitting more in Blender than playing for the last weeks. But, yes, run vpx many times a day. 20-30 times for sure.

I can test win 7, win 8/8.1, win 10 and win 11
but the nvidia part, that i can not test.

dont know if there is some strange incompatibility/conflict that arose that only entails some part of the nvidia software

I assume one could open and close the editor itself 5000 times with 0 issues (no 3d initialized)

I wonder if this happens to the affected persons also when opening editor, loading table, and then clicking Play (or hitting F5)
or does it only happen when having vpx go right to load N launch mode?

WRONG. For me it crashes - well, hangs, without trying to load ANY table, just opening vpx rel 167. That is part of why I'm a bit reluctant to point at nVidia. Why, when I compile it on my own the issue is completely gone ? And it has proven to be the fact for many others, until now Outhere reports my build being an issue too - and that is all of a sudden. I kind of hope that Outhere forgot that he changed something - but, I bet he would tell if he did. A guy that knows what he is doing.

I have changed nothing
Running Windows 10, windows may have done an update but 10.62 and 10.7.0 work fine

that is weird, just opening vpx by itself and asking it to load nothing

I am not
there could be something in the way it's being compiled in the github environment that spazzes out nvidia stuff
i am not sure what, you would i guess need a step debug to keep stepping it through to see where it hangs up at and what is it doing at that point.

nvidia is the only part of the equation that i can not test here as i have no nvidia hardware old or new.

It may prove to be not the case, but we cant dismiss it till it is proven, that aint it

I mean you have pretty much tested out elimination of all plugin and addon software

On my pincab machine I can't even open the latest versions of the editor... not loading a table, just opening the editor.

more info:

I have two machines:
1) my Pincab witn intel i7 11700F and RTX 3080 and Can't even open the revision 285
2) my Desktop PC for work with Ryzen 7 3800X and GTX 1080 and can open rev. 285 every time and when closing it doesn't exist in task manager

Both have latest nvidia drivers, both are with Geforce experience, both are Win10 with latest updates
