I cant count the times that i got close to a nice fat round number and just drained short of that, it messes up the feeling you want to have because of the monster score, knowing that it will take a lot of time to get there again......
Slam23
I'd try again if the game wasn't so horribly unfair. I don't remember it being so unfair 30 years ago, but I didn't play it much. The only place that had it was a skating rink in our local mall that also had a full arcade inside the mall doors, but accessible without paying to go skating. (This was one of three full fledged arcades in the one mall!)
But you can tell that the Pac Man people knew that they had players hooked, so they could make the game ridiculously hard and unfair and people would still play..even if their games lasted only a minute, which meant more money for the arcades. The ghosts come RIGHT to you from the start and even will team up to cut you off.
The game I did so well on I just kept going back down the slide to the pinball game and got so many power pellets that I could get a lot of points eating ghosts aone.
I also got screwed by the fac tthat if you die, while the tunnels to the pinball open up, any power pellets that were on the screen disappear. How unfair is that! And of course, I didn't notice they were gone until I already went over to them to get one. So I lost a life really quick. That alone cost me the million.
EDIT: Well..I did try again and broke the million mark, but just barely after having 3 guys left with 950,000. I barely beat Blinky to the last dot to clear a board on my last guy and the bnous put me over the top. I didn't purposely try to lose after that, but I didn't care much so I didn't do much after that, even getting a free baby pac for breaking a million.
Final Score: 1,057,160

Now onto try to beat Q's Continuum score of 16 billion after I missed it by 100 million in a game where I accidentally tilted twice after losing the ball costing me several hundred thousand in end of ball bonuses. Not to mention leving a Final Frontier lit at the end of the game because I launched the last ball without thinking and forgot to set it to Start Mission. Considering I had 7 artifacts, that would have been 1.7 billion plus whatever I got at 175,000,000 per shot during The Final Frontier. So yeah...that was a dumb move to hit the damn launch button. Somehow I don't think startin with Warp Factor 4 was worth much!
