This table will surely be the best looking and probably the most demanding when it comes to hardware.

Any rough estimate of what kind of graphics card you will need for the bare minimum (1080p/60fps)?

I am trying to keep the amount of triangles to the minimum, don't know yet how many I will finally have. I optimized some bits by only showing objects, not having actual objects when possible. For example, all screws/bolts are parts of the texture, no triangles, that saves some on triangle count. The table will have several (5-15) big textures though (4k prerendered full view). It really is too early to tell, but I want to make it as smooth as possible.

Keep your DPI on those images at 128 maximum. I don't think there;s a need for anything higher (at least not that I can see with my old ass eye's).

I'm up too 824k triangles on  my latest table and it's still rock solid on my 660Ti. The posts and hardware (screws, bolts) are the killers man.

There could be a "high quality version" for those with good hardware. I know that details like the screws don't really need to be 3D models but in some tables they are (i think the latest Addams Family) and such things can make a difference. Plus, it would be a shame for this kind of work to not be utilized.

We're talking about that right now. Having a version for 4k and standard def. And an optimized VR version of course;)

Would it be possible to do something like the mod menu from funhouse? Would be cool to download just one file then depending on what your running you could select the different levels of detail before you launch the table. I'm a fan of Ultra-pc-smoking details but having the option to tone it down might be nice. Also I read the post before you edited it,but man I'm looking forward to "my latest table" from you 3rdaxis! ;)

Doing both in one version IS possible but It would be a massive file size (250mb+).

Whilst that type of file size is not an issue for hosting or downloading, overtime, tables would become to take up a lot of ssd space for no reason.

Two thirds of your tables folder space taken up by tables you probably wont use.

Probably makes sense to split.

WoW that one looks as real as the real one.
If looking for a challenge after this one i hope you would do the table a friend of my made

He has made a Pinball machine with Medieval Madness Pinball machine ROM . So the game has a whole new playfield etc it’s called Medieval Castle now. Would be great to get this in VPX.
I Asked him and he is willing to give all the material needed to digitize it. His Wife has done the art and they would like to give all the material needed. They would only like to know who want to do it and what work they have done and if they like that.

Here you can see more About it https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/medieval-castle

Thanks for the compliments but I expect still some time to be busy with Totan, don’t know yet what I want to do after that.

Let's keep the suggestions out of this and stay on topic... I think we are all happy he is working on TOTAN.

As for TOM, there is already a really good VPX version of it as far as I'm aware.

Time for an update:

After a lot of trial and error I finally determined the best way how to group all the primitive elements of the table in VPX. Most of the table parts are now part of five big groups of primitives. These are the groups I ended up with:

- the playfield with the sidewalls and the apron

- pegs, posts, rubbers, targets, bumperbases and most of the other stuff which is directly on the playfield

- most plastics underneath the ramp, bumper tops

- the ramp

- some other stuff (wireramp, skillshot area) which sits on top of the ramp

So it is sort of building layer on layer. Only moving objects are on their own (genie, lamp, targets, dividers, etc). Except from the lights, all objects are primitives.

These five groups have there own combined 4k (2160x3840) texture, these are (scaled down 50% from 4k and all with transparency):

screenshot402_t.png

screenshot403_t.png

screenshot405_t.png

Btw, these are just the images for when GI is on, I still have to do the ones with GI off and the flashers. In some of the images you see shifted objects (like the pegs), this is done to have them visible in DT view. To get to this, I had to render a lot of layers in Blender first, then reorder them in photoshop in the images you see above.

If you combine all that in VPX, you get this (4k full screen, with the latest VPX beta):

screenshot4000_t.jpg

Meanwhile, Rothbauerw has redone all the physics, I think it plays really well now. He also (re)animated all targets, the dividers, the kickers, the subway and so on.

I still have a lot to do, but it is finally getting somewhere, no clue when it will be ready though. My next challenge will be the flashers, since they will all be prerendered on all table elements.
