Hi fel,

Well this is how I see it: the beauty of LOTR is that the scoring stays fairly balanced until Valinor Multiball. If you reach that, you can score 300M-400M easily on just that mode within minutes. Otherwise it's playing long and hard to reach 1B. I was stuck a long time on anywhere from 500M-800M max, even with knowing the ruleset thoroughly. I don't know what got me over the 1B hump, but I had a stretch where I was in the zone for a couple of games. When I give it a casual spin now, I reach 300-400M max. So there's also a bit of practice involved. When I'm really into this pin, I can precisely make the shots I want from both flippers. Another thing is that with the first couple of VP versions from JP and GRONI, the sword ramp was real hard to make, a lot of balls rolled back and drained straight down the middle. This is now much better in for example the latest version by JP.
These are some scoring tips:
- know exactly how to get extra balls and go for them hard! (7 Tower hits, completing enough ramps and loops in Ring Frenzy before collecting Jackpot, finishing Ring Multiball-Elven Gift which takes around 10 shots to the Ring, getting the extra ball directly from an Elven gift), they are sometimes hard to get and not all are mentioned in the rulesheet but they are really important in this game to prolong life!
- know how to combine multiballs with modes and score modifiers. Double playfield (Elven Gift) with Gollum MB (double scoring), any nice-scoring Ring mode (Wargs, Ents) and a Movie Multiball with 3-4 balls will give you a lot of points and Elven Gifts for completing stuff!
- a nice trick is to reach nine human rings for Gollum MB but not starting it, then start another MB, like a movie MB, keeping Gollum to resurrect the MB when you drain to one ball
- keep track of targets for the the bonus modifier (ORC targets above bumper area), it's a detail but this can add up quickly and provide some nice extra points when drained
- practice the Ring Shot from both flippers, it starts modes, it completes Destroying the Ring, it's the central shot for Ring Multiball, it is crucial for resetting Victory Laps after winning a Movie MB, it's all important for There and Back Again.
- when completing a Movie MB, shoot for Super Jackpots and Victory Laps, then the millions will ramp up
I think it's one of the best tables around, for sheer depth of the ruleset and the great implementation of the license. Besides from that I'm just also a big Tolkien fan smile.gif

tx guys :-)

it's really not that hard though, (if I remember correctly) victory laps go up to 500 mil, and total annihilation jackpots worth 2 bil aren't bad either, plus the 5 bil for ruler of the universe every time

still lost a few balls very quickly, 500 billions should be manageable with a little luck

between 2 and 3 hours of playing

Hey guys, it's only been two weeks since I converted Rock! pinball to Rock! Encore and tonight, I turned it over! 10,996,910 points, 3-ball, all factory defaults. I started at 8:03 pm, Pacific time and finished at 8:44 pm. 42 minutes to turn it over! That's what I call a game. smile.gif Chalk up another for the Leader!

maybe I'll try for a bigger one on the weekend, it's a fun table after all :-)

btw I forgot to add: several of my promising games were killed by bugs! (stuck bumpers, forced 2-balls and whatnot)

Hi guys,
I couldn't let DedRok_V have my TOTAN FS score smile.gif , so here is my 168.438.230 (JOR). It's JPSalas latest TOTAN 3.2 FS, for VP9.12.
The reason my initials and Grand Champion Score are not showing in the DMD is because it's one and the same ROM VP uses and I have scored higher on 4:3 twice before (218M and 187M). So this is actually my third best score on TOTAN, but best score for the FS version.

So it's still not my 218M on 4:3 (which still stands) but I think I can get close to that again. The game itself involved precisely two rounds of saving the Princess, I drained my last ball right after saving her for the second time, typical letdown moment. I maxed out the Genie Lamp at 1.1M, and had some nice 7x bonus (also chose that for one "Last Wish" which netted me 15M). I had about 3 extra balls, two from the Tiger loops (at 6 and 20), one in the first round of getting the Scimitar Jewels. I'm getting better at keeping the regular Multiball going. Got the most Jewels from "Last Wish" which works until the Genie Lamp is maxed out. This is easier than actually collecting them through hitting targets and the ramp.
Well, till next time, maybe I'll get a shot in at AFM, but my best was around 125B if I remember correctly, got to more than double that to get at the new GCS.......

I have my favorites too, I can't get motivated for EM machines and just playing to the rollover score, although I'm in awe of the skill of the players here who are into that! I also respect the players who score all over the place on 100+ machines, I can't find the time or motivation to do that either. For me it's all about LOTR, TOTAN, IJ(93), AFM and MM. After that maybe CV, Scared Stiff and Funhouse (one of the only pre-DMD pins I really like). I like deep rulesets and hard-to-get-to Wizard Modes. Just this summer reached Valinor Multiball for the first time. I tend to flame out on a pin when I have reached a new Grand Champion Score, so I switch to another and play on and off. There is a story around by GRONI who had a friend who scored around 400B on a (real) Attack from Mars, and he had to quit because of aching arms. That game took around 4 hours I believe. So your stamina is way up there man if you can play for 6-7 hours straight!
