1) Put the XDMD folder in the recycle bin

2) Get this file and unzip it into your vpinmame folder, allow overwrite if needed dmdext-v1.10.2-x86.zip

3) Get this file and unzip it into your vpinmame folder also, the run flexDMDUI.exe and click the 2 register buttons FlexDMD.zip
4) Test real quick by clicking the ultraDMD and flexDMD tabs and run the demo, you should get a DMD display that pops up

 

At that point, providing you have the Diablo.UltraDMD folder inside the tables folder, diablo's DMD should work.
and so should any other UltraDMD or FlexDMD table.

 

Thanks for the step-by-step on installing FlexDMD. Stepping back into this hobby and seeing the advances in what can be rendered is quite impressive.

 

If, after registering FlexDMD, and seeing the demo tabs display their little DMD demos, you still get nothing from Diablo itself

I can give you the table script from my diablo table as mine differs a little from JP's because i had modified mine for use with flexDMD
before JP knew about flexDMD and before FlexDMD was about to simply register in place of UltraDMD

what you would do with that script is rename it to have the same exact name as your diablo VPX file and drop it in the table folder with the table file
when VPX loads the table, it will load that script as a replacement (with out changing the table at all)

If that does not work, then just delete the script

 

If it does work for you, since it is best to avoid scripts in tables folders, open the script in notepad, select ALL and COPY
then open diablo in vpx editor, and click script editor button
Select ALL the script and then PASTE, then save the table and get rid of the vbs file


PS

 

Even if your PC somehow lacked the codecs to play wmv (which is almost not possible as it is a native windows format)
You should still get an empty black DMD display

I made it through about 7 pages of comments before I gave up.  I absolutely LOVE this table.  The force throwing the ball around is awesome, and the multiball play is SICK AS HELL!

 

Here's the problem I am having.  I beat Diablo before my last ball drained.  Got an extra ball.  Played it and it drained.  Then the game just sat there.  The flippers were still live.. no balls in play or in the chute.  It never calculated the final bonuses.  I was able to get out of the game to enter my initials by causing a TILT.  Please see attached image.  Did the game lose count of the balls on the table?

I guess the game lost count of the balls or a multiball got lost and the game thought there was still another ball on the table. This can happen :)

WOW! What an amazing table. Is there any reason why you ditch this kind of animated dmd in your recent creations? It's just outstanding.

 

Not to answer for JP but

 

Diablo, as a Table, is unique, it's DIablo, it sort of needed something over the top.
And animated media for JP to work with, that does not carry legal worries, was readily available.

If anything, the Real Blizzard would have probably wanted JP to work with them to make something official :) (Real Blizzard was eaten by the demon Activision)

 

Other table's JP has done, the real life counterparts dont have any kind of glorious movie style Spike 2 DMD
And JP has plenty of tables with Spike 1-esque style DMDs

 

I mean there is Deadpool, but it's "What if JP worked at Stern and was making Deadpool" as opposed to "Lets make an exact copy of deadpool in VPX"
And the Deadpool media might have legal use issues, plus it is mostly padded out with silliness rather than things meaningful to the game play.

JP would have to hand draw an animate it frame by frame to avoid using stuff with legal issues , which would be a huge task all by itself.
And then you wind up asking yourself, what the hell did that just add to the table?
I cant even look at it with out dropping the ball in the drain, why did i spend 4 weeks animating that useless scene.

I like the DMD's he normally makes
Bright and colorful, concise and direct to the point, and if you didnt see it and missed something on it, it wont matter cause the table just yelled SHOOT THE LEFT RAMP YA IDIOT

because bugger if i can pay attention to a DMD if i want to keep my ball, the game is on the table, you could put porn on the DMD and it's not going to help me keep the ball in play any, so i wont be seeing it
probably take me a while to even realize it is there.

I couldn't have said it better than wiesshund :)

 

I must add that those DMD animations were made by scottyvik and not by me. For my new tables I prefer a simple text DMD, as players usually just watch the table, and not the DMD :)

 For my new tables I prefer a simple text DMD, as players usually just watch the table, and not the DMD :)

 

For what it's worth, if i didnt assemble the video clips for heavy metal, i'd be damned if i could tell you what was on the DMD

As it is now, i really only know what clip is playing by the sound, no time to be looking, and i only know that because i saw the movie probably 100 times during it's original release

- cleaned up and deleted unused graphics & reduced the size of the table
- Added my VPX7 LUT changer to darken the table (hold down LEFT CTRL while change with RIGHT CTRL). Including GI brightness adjustment. Use the LUT changer together with the day/night slider to give the table the level of darkness you prefer.
- Updated my mechanical set of sounds to a more "under the glass" sound, as people seem to like those kind of sounds better.
- Changed the Environment image to enhance a little the object shadows.
- Some small small script updates, like the Rolling sound and PlaySoundAt routines.
- Added SSF sound commands. 
 
If you already have the older table then you only need to download the table itself, since there are no changes in the UltraDMD nor the media files. The UltraDMD folder is now a separate zip file.
 
This update is mostly to add my physics for VPX 10.7, but it also contains some fixes that people used to complain, like Malthael attacking you sending the ball at warp speed. The attacks used to last about 5 seconds, now the effect on the ball is different and the attacks last just one second, but still if you are not careful you may loose the ball :) There are some small VPX graphical changes although the images are the still the same.

Still the magnets will throw the ball at unexpected directions. It is not like before but still you will drain because of them :) The more acts you finished the more he will attack you with his magnetic powers :)

 

But if you really want to change them back then you will need to change the magnets in the table1_init from Magnet to TurnTable, and at the end of the script change the MagnetON to MotorON in 4 places. Also there is a line, almost at the end to disable the magnets which is at one second now, so you mat set it back to 5 seconds, like this vpmtimer.AddTimer 5000, "DisableMagnets '"

I kind of liked how the old one worked too. But, well, was a bit smart about it though. Like addams family, wait out the dangerous magnet/mode - if you survive the first attack that is ;-)

Monstercool again! I have an issue during Belial. If you loose all but one ball you cannot fight against him anymore. theres no target blinking no way to hit him...what to do?

Thanks JP, i did play the update
Seems that scoring changed, nothing wrong with that, but i did not find his attacks challenging
he would just flip the ball a little and toss it, but he never threw it at the drain, and didnt throw it hard.

I know you made the change in response to all the complaining, but some of us like the fact that Yes, he was most definitely trying to put the ball
right in the damned drain, cause that is what he would do, if he was pinball, just before he shreds you to ribbons and decorates the lockbar with your intestines

On the other hand, i really enjoyed whatever you did with the lighting.

UPDATE

 

4.0.1 Updated 23.09.2022
- fixed Belial mode not being able to finish him after loosing the multiballs.
- added an Malthael attacking mode, from easy, to hard and insane attacks. Change it at the top of the script. The default is hard mode :)
 
Fixed the Belial mode. I guess I forgot that that mode was not only a simple multiball, and it was not the meaning that it should terminate when the multiball was finished. So now the battle will continue until the end of the ball :) Thanks makmak for the bug report :)
 
And now there is an option at the top of the script to activate an easier mode for the Malthael attacks. In the Easy mode the magnets are real magnets and they will grab the ball for a second and throw the ball at any direction. 
In the hard mode (which is the default) the magnets rotate at warp speed, so Malthael will actively try to send the ball to the drain at warp speed. The attacks in this hard mode last 3 seconds.
In the insane mode the attacks last 5 seconds, and this is the mode from the older revisions. 
So now everybody is happy, novices, hard core pinball heads and madmen :D

but well..

you have kinda overlooked the plunger pull sounds

 

not worth going out of the way to make another update
i just modded the table real quick

but maybe something to look at when you get all those other tables you are updating caught up

I didn't use that sound in older tables, so I didn't even looked at that part of the script :) But I'll keep it in mind for new table updates :)

Yes, this table is hard, it keep you on your toes :) Blink and your ball is lost ;)

I like the simple design of the playfield, nothing fancy there, but the gameplay is nice :)
