rev2505 is up:

- replace '-1,0,1' editable fields with dropdowns
- move physics im/export in panel
- move physics set selection to user panel
- change/unify ball trail strength, global difficulty level and playfield reflection strength to range 0..100
- move physics panel to main options instead of backdrop
- add dropdown list for FXAA and combine all scattered user customizations into one single panel

please let me know if there are any quirks with the new UI shuffling.

(the dropboxes behave sometimes strangely, but this was already the case with the other dropboxes before, and i don't know that much about ancient windows UI coding to fix that :()

How about updating it to something you know? That would be a big step. Selecting many objects without waiting several minutes for example...

Yes but that would be a rewrite of VP and we aren't in the mood doing that ;)

okay, after hours of trial and error i finally fixed my stutter problem!!

apparently, this was not an issue of either VPX or VPinMAME, but had something to do with my monitor setup.

i have 3 monitors for PF, BG and DMD...initially all of them set to 60 hz and it seems that this was somehow a problem for the graphics card or driver. After setting the DMD monitor to 75 hz, i no longer have any kind of stutter :D

PS. the VPX performance did not change since then (F11 menu) and everything is fine now.

It would be nice if the option selected stays selected even if switching between different tables in different windows. At the moment I select e.g. physics in the options to see the physics settings - but as soon as I click to the second table opened, the "user customizations" are shown again. It would be easier to compare without clicking that much...

okay, then i'm more precise: i only know a bit of ancient windows UI coding, and thats about it for UI coding overall.  ;)

I saved a table with the latest build and tried to open it...seems corrupt, won't open on any PC now. Last build I have is about 4 days older so it sets me back a bit. Will the corrupt table help you out at all? I couldn't tell you what the last thing I did was, unfortunately... and no crash.dmp either so not sure how much help it could be

Same thing has happened to me twice using the official VPX.

Also, sometimes when saving a table the saving proccess hangs and nothing responds. It happens quite a bit actually!

cannot hurt to get these tables, maybe we can debug which part is faulty and maybe guess what happened then..

Hmm hard to tell without the real crash dump(the dmp file). It looks like it comes from the decal renderText function but I can't see why it should crash there.

Sorry, I'll look for it when it happens again and I don't recall seeing a dmp file.  Is it named crash.dmp?  (This happened on my desktop PC at home - I'm on my notebook PC at work at the moment)

Yes there should be a crash.dmp file in the same folder.

Having a strange sudden issue with the latest version (rev2505).

Out of the blue and without me changing anything, while trying to load a table (any table)

an odd error box pops up: "The file "strange unicode" (see image below) could not be opened".

Once I hit Enter, it clears and loads the table just fine.

It has not happened on any other version of Vp: 9x, + Physmod, and the official VPX runs fine.

I've also tried to go back to the last beta (rev2498), odd enough, same thing.

This wasn't happening yesterday.

It pops up each time as "Backing Up..." starts.

Weird.

Everything is set to run as admin, dll's are not blocked, etc, etc.

Like I said, was working without a hitch until tonight.

Any other info needed, logs or wot not, point me in the right direction

to find them and I'll post 'em.

Cheers!

Alright.

After my 3rd system restore it's running normal again.

Apparently something in Windows got mucked up somewhere,

trying to sort out exactly what that was so it doesn't happen again...

Thanks. I have added some checks to the next version to hopefully prevent this from happen again but the crash dump wasn't that clear so it's more guessing than real fixing ;)

Is it related to the crash.txt (without the dump file that I reported but missed previously?)  or is it a different crash because I didn't get the same error message this time.

Best Regards,

Kruge99.

Oooookay!

I 100% figured out what what causing that error message while loading a table

mentioned in my previous post.

It was the new (and awesome) ball image override setting in the video options.

I had originally chosen an image and then changed my mind later.

To remove the image I just selected / deleted the path in the box.

Apparently it did not like that.

I put the image back in, bam. All is right in the world.

It was definitely this that caused the error.

I've removed the image, error message again, put it back, fixed.

When you delete the path from the box and close VPX, the next time you open it

check the box again, there will now be some strange unicode in there.

Am I just overlooking a proper way to remove an image path from there

and have been doing it wrong?
