I can't get this to run. Replaced the VPM DLL properly, ROM runs through the test interface, but the program just blows up on start. Here's the crash dump.

This crash seems to relate to your soundcard.

Do you have more than one audio card or an external usb or firewire  sound card ?

Can you give me more details about your pc configuration ?

Well, I took a look in my device manager, and I did have two audio devices installed - one being a built-in one connected with the Intel chipset, the other being a dedicated Realtek device. I disabled and then uninstalled the former, but there was no change, it still seems like it's crashing just the same.

The one audio card I have now should be a regular one, as running something external on a laptop is a massive pain.

Here's a shot of my general specs:

Here's one from when I had the Intel SPU uninstalled and the Realtek one disabled so I was completely without sound.

one thing that could be great in unity is to be able to change all the aspects of a table on the fly, we can benefit from it to create like two profiles of the table, one for dark mode and mode for day mode, and if we can have shortcut buttons associated to it :)
Or i think a lot of people like me don't have any button left available on their cabs, if we have a menu before the exit of a table, like a pause menu, where we can have for example an easy to switch from day or night mode, this could be awesome ;)

Most ppl using cabs would be launching tables via a front end like hyperpin or the new pinballx rather than a standalone app. So maybe be able to load up a profile from command line for table launch. Similarly these fromtends have their own pause menu. On the fly "profile change" could be more challenging. Unless a keystroke could be sent from pinballx pause menu to Unity.

Just some additional thoughts...

Here's one from when I had the Intel SPU uninstalled and the Realtek one disabled so I was completely without sound.

When you replaced vpinmame.dll, have you run setup.exe AND clicked on install? This is absolutely needed to register all new functions of the dll...

Except for some parameters like Rendering mode and audio device, all parameters can be changed on the fly. Thus, it is theoricaly possible to load multiple xml config file and swapping on realtime. For now, though, on pre-alpha2, you will be able to pass a config file from command line...

Yeah, I did. Would I even have been able to use VPM with VP without it?

Yes, because vp does not use the additionnal functions... Try to delete config/options.ui.puo file to revert to all "default" values... just a test. Keep the file elsewhere.

If this doesn't work, wait for new release, we never know. This is quite strange, this is the first time we see this crash... XP or 7?

I renamed the options.ui.puo file, but it didn't seem like it did anything beyond throw a FIleNotFoundException because of the file no longer being "there" and not recreate the options file. I'm running Win7 64bit.

EDIT: I looked around, and found my VPM installation was apparently out of date. I updated to the latest version, installed it, copied it over and tried again, and this time it seems there was a different crash. Before, it would bring up a few blank buttons and show COMException in red letters, now it doesn't show anything and just crashes. Attached the output log.

Yep, being able to launch unity with 2 buttons for 2 different profiles is a good idea, from my frontend i could use start for day profile and launch button for night profile :)

Oh right, the pre-alpha can't launch without the puo, sorry...

Regarding the log, it IS related to VPM installation/registration: eihter it can not find the dll's new function, OR, the audio deviuce enumeration fails for some reason... Do you have DirectX 9.0c installed? Almost everyone has, but that could be one problem...

Do you own another PC? It would be interesting to do a fresh reinstall of VPM v 2.5 and UP, maybe on some friend one...

Interesting bug though.

We are really sorry that you cannot try UP yet :S.

Or get clever and use an ambient light sensor to detect whether your room is dark or lit up and chose your preferred profile :)

That can work also, but the attempts in vp failed until now as example, and i prefer to choose myself for a dark mode because i prefer them even with the lights on, but could be great to have more than one solution

Was just kidding when I suggested it. I can't see much demand for an automated system anyway. As is the case for your most ppl would likely prefer to pick the mode adhoc.

And here I thought it sounded like a fantastic idea!  Those who prefer to pick the mode themselves should, of course, still be able to do so.

I'm sure it could be done, but something frilly like that would likely be waaay down the road at this point, i.e., low on the list of priorities.  Still - something neat to consider!

Or an option to set time after windows clock when it's dark and light. sounds fairly simple :D

BilboX, do you have an updated ETA for alpha 2 ?
