Thanks! I just had a quick try on my desktop with a tilted neck, and it looks like a fun table. That spin wheel could sure use a re-draw.

The distortion in the text could be the difference between using sandpaper, as opposed to a smooth plastic frictionless sticker.

This is what the real thing looks like - I think Williams could have made it a whole lot better to begin with. So do you want it to look like the real life one, or legible, or just 'better' ?

To clarify,l I got that scan of the spinner decal from a real life owner on RGP - from what they actually shipped out that matches the real machine - you notice it's not too sharp to begin with from the factory. Then I rotated the frames individually without antialias to get each image frame the table uses, and then I shrunk each one down individually to the required size to use for walls and stretched/distorted them to fit the area of the spinner on the playfield images last to retain as much 'quality' as I could when the table was first released. You can probably make it look a little better using walls by increasing the main playfield resolution, but I think you'll have to go with reels to get much if any quality increase in the final product.

Of course, there is one other possibility - one that I had never considered. Perhaps, just perhaps, the owner who supplied that 'decal' lied, and he had his little kid create it in paintbrush or something. Usually I tend to take their word for stuff when they say pictures they provide are authentic, but I've been tending to suspect some people out there just want to mess with us because they don't accept what we do to be a worthy advancement of pinball.

That is really interesting... I wouldn't have even thought they would use a sandpaper type material, but it makes alot of sense. I wonder if the table was shipped with extra adhesive sandpaper stickers for when they eventually wear out.

Well, If I recall correctly, the "discs" on Whirlwind are made of that same "knobby" / sandpaper material. And, Fireball/Fireball Classic with the wheel on the table is made out of a ribbed, hard rubber surface in order to grip the ball and re-direct it.

Dunno if the rules would allow me to upload my effort. All I did was open the editor, click the 'backdrop' button, open the 'Colors & Formatting' tab, then changed the following:
Inclination - 63
Field of view - 28
XY rotation - 0
X scale - 1
Y scale - 1
X offset - 0
Y offset - 0
Then, to make the background more interesting, just above 'Inclination', change the image to 'AAA No Good Gofers'. Now click the 'background' button again & enable HD Render. Remember to save the table, exit it and reload. It should do until something proper comes along...

Hope this helps! wink.gif

EDIT: I've decided these settings aren't that good. See my new post a bit further down...

I've been messing with this table again to make it 4:3. I have knocked up a new background image. Also used the settings from the original VP8 version, which makes it look a lot better IMO. Still has some distorted lights, which I don't know how to change. But it looks like this if anyone is interested:

Still don't know the rules for uploading mods. Obviously, this is a mod of a mod. It's not perfect, but it plays really well. It's fast becoming one of my favourite tables!

PM me if you wanna try it out!

Cheers,
pface

Anyone getting music or sound on this besides the flipper sounds? The table plays fine otherwise on my cabinet.

OK. From reading the rules, it looks as though a staff member must upload the files. Is this right?

Instead, here's a link to megaupload.com. Dunno how many d/l's it allows...
