Hi Everyone!

We are working behind the scenes to develop the best possible platform for our hobby. This site has always belonged to the community, and we'd love for YOU to help make it that way!

First, we'd really like some input on FEATURES!

  • What features are here now that you think you couldn't live without?
  • What features would you like to see that haven't been implemented?
  • What areas currently exist that could use some improvement?

Thank you for input!

First of all a more advanced search would be nice. Sometimes you can't find something specific by use of the forum search, but you find it on this site by use of google.

Second the download section could have some more options. For example if you want to find all tables of a specific era, then there is no option to pick.

Latest Uploads ->  Latest *Table* Uploads       Latest Updates ->  Latest *Table* Updates      Website Poll ->  Latest Accessories  (which rarely get updated but also take a slot in Updates when new)

You'd be forgiven for thinking we have nothing new but wheels and toppers on some days, and neither table nor accessory contributors get much time in the shared 10-slot limelight.

I don't think the Spreadsheet site properly covers VPF any more, and has many outdated screenshots, so a little longer exposure for every contributor on the front page wouldn't hurt.

Also, can you ditch the horribly misused "Is this table broken?" button.

For me I would like to have the options for "Era" like 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's... also options for "Manufactures", because when you search for "Bally" for example the results are mixed all together with VP8, VP9, VPX, FP... . Also the results will show everything else like B2S, Tables, Media, etc.

Maybe it would help when you could split the "Downloads" option in the search for these options, so for example when you search for tables the results will show tables only.

For this one, I could just create more subcategories for table uploads. By System > Software Version > Manufacturer > Era.

I like the side panel with the latest discussions in the front page, and the latest downloads/updates too, it is a quick way to check the forum :)

The search could be also give better results. I also use Google when I can't find something :) Maybe you could have a "google" search instead of a local search? I have seen other sites using a "google powered search" for better results.

Sounds good, but also you should ad these options into the selection area for the downloads too. That would make it much more easy when you are looking for this. Only problem I see is this change would work with new uploads only, not with the older ones. But I absolutely do understand it would be a hell of work to update thousands of old uploads folr the new options. We only can hope the original uploaders take care for their old uploads.

Right now, you kinda have what I want, but what I'm asking for is something more "official" and organized:

When you download a table, have links to the other files you'll need, like the backglass, rom, etc.

Also have links to other versions of the same table, like "you're looking at a VP9 table, here's a link to a VPX version of the same table"...

It would be nice to allow a larger attachment on pinball table uploads.  I suspect you won't be able to do that for security purposes but we need to be able to upload split zip files.  These have extensions like the following example:

Addams Family, Revised Slamt1lt Edition 1.02.zip.001
Addams Family, Revised Slamt1lt Edition 1.02.zip.002
Addams Family, Revised Slamt1lt Edition 1.02.zip.003
Addams Family, Revised Slamt1lt Edition 1.02.zip.004

Addams Family, Revised Slamt1lt Edition 1.02.zip.005

I currently have to zip each of these files like the following in order to meet the 100MB file upload limit:

The A File, See the Description for Instructions.zip.001.zip
The B File, See the Description for Instructions.zip.002.zip
The C File, See the Description for Instructions.zip.003.zip
The D File, See the Description for Instructions.zip.004.zip

The E File, See the Description for Instructions.zip.005.zip

It would work so much better to be able to upload the split zip extensions *.001 through *.006.  Pinball Nirvana allows extensions *.001 through *.010 to be uploaded but 6 would work well enough for me.

I am surprised that 7zip files (*.7z) can't be uploaded but I am OK with using *.zip files.

Pinball Nirvana uses XenForo Ltd and they had to implement the 100MB limit.  That is something to consider if you plan to use XenForo Ltd.

I check in to this place roughly every 5 years or so. I always have to remind myself how all this works every time after I've forgotten and re-educate myself on all that has changed since I was last here. Some short, succinct, and continuously up to date tutorials would be good. Community YouTube tutorials would be good too, but have the base text tutorial for when the video inevitably gets deleted. More of a backup video. I guess the forum could also have an official YouTube channel for this very reason as well.

I might be the only one that likes to do this, but beyond latest and alphabetical etc. Could tables be sorted by decade, manufacturer and perhaps table creator (either the real table or the VP table) by any chance? I'm sure it's more work but a tagging system should help with that. I mean people get attached to the style of these table creators, it would make it easier to find all their work to enjoy.

Other than that I can't think of anything else at the moment. If I think of something, I'll add it.

An easy way to see new posts in particular forums while still being able to see all new posts.  Perhaps ranking the new posts?

Some comprehensive admin features for those of us helping to look after some of the individual forums.

... oh yeah, and up to date "Did you know" items  :P

I have difficulty with the format of the table download pages.  The web page links below show an example of the posting of one of my tables in 2 formats.

Format 1) The web page at the link below has a nice layout for the Description but the Change Log is absent.  It somehow did not add the tags that I entered.  I don't know why or how it got the tags that are there.  The site seems to display this view when a table is newly posted but this the format converts to the next format after a few days (I am not sure what the purpose of this is).

  • Suggest adding a link to the Change Log if you don't want to use more memory by adding the full content to the web page.
  • Suggest fixing the tags so they are correct.

https://www.vpforums...showtopic=56266

Format 2) The web page at the link below has a tiny section for the Description but the Change Log is visible.  The tags are the correct ones that I posted.

  • Suggest adding more space to the Description.

Much as though i've got used to using the image host and posting a link to images for the forum, i'd still much rather paste an image directly from the clipboard if that's a possible enhancement.

Edit - for clarity, currently if i try and paste an image directly into a post (copied from paint.net) it looks like it'll work in the preview, but errors when you try and save the post with 'You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community.'
