It's a bit tricky to find, and a very frequently asked question in the 10.8 beta thread, so I wanted to make a mini-tutorial that any of us can easily link to help people find the most recent VPX 10.8 beta builds.  ***As mentioned in the comments... you must be logged in to Github to access the latest builds***

**edit 11/29/23**  I'm sure some people were already aware of this, but I found out that the github actions labeled as "10.8.1" are actually a separate branch from "master" and will be much more unstable and have more bugs.  So, we want the latest action labeled "master" and avoid the actions labeled "10.8.1" (unless you are a real glutton for punishment).

First, go here:  Workflow runs · vpinball/vpinball (github.com)

Note that you are on the "Actions" tab... and you can also get here from the releases page (if you are already there) by clicking on the actions tab.

Next... pick the most recent action marked "master".

update10.png

On this page, scroll down and you will see the various available builds.  You do not want "debug".  Choose regular or GL (for VR), and x86 or x64 depending on your system.

Note that the build number is listed in the file name, in case you need to refer to it.

Interesting how r1379 says "DO NOT USE" in the filename.

Interesting how r1379 says "DO NOT USE" in the filename.

You are looking at non windows builds, like android etc

Ignore Misc Standalone Builds, unless you specifically want a non windows app.

Latest windows build is Update anaglyph: linear composition & desaturation, brightness adjust… · vpinball/vpinball@f293e62 (github.com)

I'm clicking and  clicking and nothing happens!

I guess one thing to add is that you have to be signed up for (and signed in to) a GitHub account first.

Thank you very much Drybonz. I did figure out how to get to the main page  Workflow runs · vpinball/vpinball (github.com) by backing up in one of the links to a current version provided by another member, but it took me a while to figure it out. You have to click on the little vpinball back arrow and not necessarily on the back arrow in your browser. You have reaffirmed for me that I am downloading the correct version. You have been very helpful!

Yes... thank you for that.  I forgot to add this important point, but I've updated the OP.

Well, hoping you all can help.

I keep seeing posts indicating that there are newer versions of both PinMame and VPinballX than what I see on Github.

As of today, I see that PinMame is at pre-release @ v3.6573, and VPinballX is 10.8 1347, yet i am seeing people saying they are using PinMame pre-release v3.6 617, and VPinballX 10.8 1529.

I am logged in to GitHub (I've cleared cache and tried different browsers), yet I can't see these new builds, even after following all of the comments above.

Thoughts??

NEVERMIND - I'm all set now.  For anyone else having this issue, I was clicking on the blue "master" button because it was circled in the screenshot above, but when I read the instructions a little more closely, i found that i should be clicking on an actual action itself.

Thanks everyone.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!  I never would have been able to find it.  GitHub has always been a profound mystery to me.

It's a bit tricky to find, and a very frequently asked question in the 10.8 beta thread, so I wanted to make a mini-tutorial that any of us can easily link to help people find the most recent VPX 10.8 beta builds.

Now the next question is... does one just install it ON TOP of any existing 10x install?  Or should the previous one be removed first? (I have 10.7.1 I think)

you can, just remane the 10.7 EXE to VisualPinallX 10.7 32bit.exe, or something like that

and then just unzip over top

Don't use any of the builds from here. https://github.com/v...pinball/actions. Go here instead. https://github.com/v...inball/releases 10.8.0 Beta 7 or newer.

Builds from the Action can have something broken. Set on auto building.

Unless your checking out on every builds from the Action. Don't report any issue from these.

When i pick the master on that page i don't see the available builds i usually see. I clicked the next master below that one and again, no available builds. Can someone please direct me to the latest builds on the actions tab. Thanks.

Hi Jdv,

it means that you should give the original VPX file in your C:\Visual Pinball folder a different name.
in that way you can keep the original if you would like to reverse actions later.

Then copy the new content to the folder and overwrite when asked.
I always make a backup of the whole folder just to be sure.

By the way, yesterday I found those files very very easily through google.
I typed "vpx 10.8 beta download" and it was the third hit, with direct download links, no account nor registration, nada.

Have fun guys, see you next year !
